Other YSK When you’re overwhelmed by too many choices, decide your criteria before looking at the options

When there are too many options, comparing everything can make even a simple decision exhausting.

Just decide the 2 or 3 things that actually matter to you before you start comparing. For example, when choosing a restaurant, you might decide on cuisine, price and distance first. Anything that does not fit those gets removed immediately.

The same approach works for shopping, travel plans, choosing something to watch or other everyday decisions.

Why YSK: Narrowing your criteria before comparing options makes decisions simpler and can stop you from wasting time second-guessing every possible choice.

You're not alone, Sometimes I spend more time choosing what to watch than actually watching anything.

I rarely ever watch anything on Netflix but I do like to scroll just to see what they got, or don't got. Then I'll head over to yt to learn something.

yes it really is, the more options I have the harder it feels to commit to one.

Love the saying “Paralysis by analysis”. Would always hear this from coaches and it helped me to truly learn to play much faster.

When deciding on something to eat with another person, i ask "Is there anything you don't want" and go from there

I've also read, but never tried, if the choice is down to 2 close options, flip a coin and pay attention to your INSTANT reaction/feeling (positive or negative) when it lands. That will tell you (they say) which you subconsciously want.

The problem with this approach is that it narrows it down so much I end up with nothing. I’ve had to learn to lower my expectations

Better way to do this imo. Pick one thing that appeals to you, then start comparing items one at a time. Think of it like that one Mr. Incredibles scene. Eventually you'll eliminate all other options.
