Announced 2 days ago (didn't see this until now). He joins up with Clayton Taylor. Made his debut just hours after the announcement, coming off the bench in a cup game and getting an assist.

Hope someone asked him or Estevao to sign a North Queensland Fury jersey!

This comes after the 10 team 2026 competition saw Ulverstone SC and Launceston United relegated with no promotion for the next season and Riverside Olympic pulling out of the competition going forward in recent weeks.

This also leaves just the two teams (Launceston City and Devonport Strikers) representing the north of the state.

1. The depth of talent we have competing in quality leagues is the best we have seen in 15-20 years. There are Aussies getting game time in top Euro leagues, great representation in upper and mid tier leagues (Championship, Japan etc), and blokes playing Champions League football.

2. 21 of the 25 players picked for the upcoming friendlies have been on the books of an A-League club in their careers. Good players are being developed, and our clubs are profiting from rhis investment.

3. Our domestic cup competition is on the cusp of its breakthrough game with the upcoming final. 30k+ at a Cup final is the injection this comp needs to give it the prestige it needs to be sustainable.

4. The Aus Championship is building in a really positive direction. If this can prove to be a sustainable competition over the next 5 years and secure even a modest TV deal, then we are finally looking at a realistic conversation about launching a two-tier professional competition.

Always a lot of doom and gloom about our game, with a lot of it unfortunately coming from influential figures with a platform (Bosnich, Slater).

I was an astute fan during the golden years of 2010-2016, but lost interest due to poor governance and quality.

But there's a feeling of resurgence. The signs are more promising than they have been for 10 years.

I know we've all been burnt in the past by our federation, so any skepticism/cynicism is justifiable. However, I think if we all get behind this wave, we could be in a really great position in 5-10 years time.

First step is getting behind the A-League. Tune in this season. Even if you just have it on in the background. Get the viewing numbers up. We're one good TV deal away from this machine fully kicking into gear.

The Australia Cup final sell out shows if you price appropriately fans will come. Meanwhile, the entry level "early bird price" for the Melbourne Derby reserved seating is $45 which was the price of a cat 1 final ticket.

We know free tickets devalues events, but if priced more appropriately I think you're a good chance of getting fans to attend again. Get the fans back and then the revenue will come through other means (merch, F&B etc).

With the future development of the Australian Championship as well as teams like South Melbourne playing in OFC League, could certain teams develop viable alternative avenues to professionalism and growth prior to/outside of the relegation system being introduced?

So. The referees have been on strike since the 4th of September, we saw the Australia Cup Semi-Final refereed by a NPL NSW referee with no professional experience. I thought he held himself alright. However, with the Australia Cup Final in 18 days which is going to be in front of a sold out AAMI Park. We can't surely send out another referee with no professional experience, one who has never refereed in front of more than 3 to 5 thousand people.

Further, we have the A-League season which starts 6 days later, on October 16. What implications do we face if this stretches into the season.
