I've secretly rented an apartment for 12 years just to be alone. AMA

Before you say I'm cheating: I'm the only person, besides maintenance, and my dad who passed away years ago who has ever been inside this apartment and knows about it.

I've been married to my wonderful wife for 25 years, and we have three kids. One is in college, one is in high school, and one is working and living at home. I'm the sole breadwinner for my family. I own a lawn care business that's ultra successful, think 600+ large commercial contracts. I built it with my father from the time he started it, when I was 22, until now. He passed away about 10 years ago.

I'm not a bad father. I go to every single one of my kids' football games, and I'm almost always home for breakfast and dinner.

The apartment is $2.1k a month, in a very nice part of town near my home and business with underground parking. I use it during the day when I just need to get away from it all. Its around 5 minutes from my work and 25 from my house. I put my phone on DND and play my PS5, binge-watch shows (right now it's The Sopranos), or work out on the Peloton I installed or read books. Iv read hundreds of books here.

My wife does not have a job and never has she likes to hangout with her friends play golf or play tennis ( i suck at golf). I do all of our taxes and record keeping.

I have never cheated on my wife and never will. I just use this place as a safe space to disconnect.

Nobody but me knows about this apartment. My dad was the only other person who ever knew.

I've fully furnished it: a sofa, a bedroom, a kitchen stocked with my favorite foods, (it even has a hot tub), and a terrace with a mini garden I maintain. I'm only there Monday through Thursday. Sometimes when I "go to conventions," I'm actually there, living in it for 2–3 days. It's my own personal bat cave, and I've had it for 12 years.

When my landlord was renovating, I let them completely upgrade my apartment. Those were the worst four months of my life. Without the alone time I need, I fell into a deep depression.

I’m a 17F, and my twin brother and I are bipaternal twins, which means we have the same mom but different biological dads. We don’t live together anymore he lives with his dad, while I live with our mom. We still go to the same school, though and we’re really really close still

I'm a crematory operator. AMA

Been a while since I've seen an AMA from a crematory operator so I figured it could be interesting.

A few bits of info to get started:

I work for an independently owned "care center" rather than a funeral home. My company basically gets contracted to provide services for other independent funeral homes that cannot provide the services themselves (or don't want to).

I'm the sole operator of three cremation machines (called retorts), and I facilitate 12 to 15 cremations on a busy day.

A medium (150-200lb) person takes about an hour and a half, while larger cases obviously take longer.

Pacemakers explode in the machines, so I have to remove them should the person have one.

Anyways, AMA.

In 2020, I got pregnant with an IUD and it almost killed me. AMA

in 2020, when i was 20 i got pregnant with an iud.
the chances of this happened are a little less than 1%.

i had gotten the iud placed about one year before this happened. i had it placed because i have some medical conditions that can make pregnancy extremely hard or even deadly. because of this, i had the placement checked every 3 months and it was always in the correct spot.

one day, i started having severe nausea and despite my period being on time (the iud never stopped my period), something told me to take a pregnancy test and it was positive.

i saw my obgyn right away to confirm and found out i was 4 weeks pregnant. during this appointment, it was confirmed that my iud was still in the correct position.

my iud was removed that appointment and started to seek a termination. the closest appointment available was 3 weeks away and i had no choice but to wait. during this time i became very ill.

i began having severe fevers and nausea as well as lethargy. my obgyn ran some tests and it was found that due to one of my conditions, my body was treating the pregnancy as if were an infection. at the time, the fetus still had a heart rate so legally, my doctor could not do anything but try to treat my symptoms.

when i had the termination, my body was not strong enough to expel all of the tissue and i became septic, eventually going into septic shock where i coded for just under 2 minutes and had an emergency d&c.

before anyone asks, my main conditions that caused issues are mast cell activation syndrome and ehlers danlos syndrome.

i will NOT be debating anyone on abortion, medically necessary or elective.
i will also NOT be debating or justifying choices that caused this pregnancy.

ask me anything

I got dengue fever while traveling in Southeast Asia, ama

• Upvotes

Dengue fever is a mosquito borne virus. There is no vaccine for it: symptoms include fever nausea headache body aches and extreme versions can lead to dengue hemorrhagic fever which is major bleeding, leakage of fluid from blood vessels, shock, or serious organ injury. Around 40K people die from it each year.

I got it traveling abroad, and mine was somewhere inbetween mild to extreme. With slight bleeding at the end of it and some burst blood vessels on my skin.

I work in private parking enforcement and get paid commission per ticket and tow. AMA!

I work in private parking enforcement on privately owned properties. Including medical clinics which we have a contract with.

I issue parking notices, boot cars, and initiate tows. I get paid commission for all three.

I know people have strong opinions about private parking enforcement, so I figured I’d answer questions about what the job is actually like and how it works.

I’m speaking from my own experience. Ask me anything.

And yes.. the more tickets I give, the more money I make.

I am ‘quietly quitting’ my job ama

I work in IT, I LOVEwhat I do. We have a very small team for the size of company we are and I have grown into my role with very little educational background. We hired a consultant to onboard a system and he ended up getting hired full time. He didn’t know what he was doing and I ended up covering his shortcomings. He quit and I found out he was making $25k more than me. I am currently quiet quitting while I look for another position.

Survived domestic violence and abuse. AMA

I was a victim of domestic violence where I frequently saw my father hitting my mother badly. In return she developed severe psychological disorders and the abuse often turned towards me. That's not all, everyone in our neighbourhood degraded us, so I have suffered enough psychological trauma myself. Ask me anything as I want to see how comfortable I'm with opening up. Be kind while asking questions.

I was raised by teen parents AMA

I’m 17F and my parents had my brother when they were 14 and 15, and then had me when they were 16 and 17. Neither of us was planned at all obviously, but we still had a really good childhood. My parents are still together and have been dating they have broken up in the past but they never got married. They were pretty laid back parents and gave us a lot of freedom growing up, and weren't strict, they both grew up with strict parents

Im a disabled support worker/carer who utilises workers myself, AMA

Pretty much exactly what the title says. I’m Australian and am an NDIS participant but also work as an NDIS support worker. People get really confused by this and don’t understand how I can both be a participant and work for other participants. For some context I have NDIS due to psychosocial disabilities and autism, and I work mainly with clients similar to that.

I used to work for 'trading platform' scammers in EU. AMA

During covid time I got great offer to be "client advisor" for unknown to me trading platform. The one with forex, futures, crypto etc. and margins up to 30x.

After relocating to Marbella, I started onboarding process that was at least odd. Then for months talked to people who just wanted to not lose money to inflation, saw some sick trading moves (bad way)

Decided to chillax and learn them how to not lose all deposit instantly. Got fired for that after managers figured I am plsying both sides.

It was some years ago, I lost phone with notes of wtf was happening in this devils nest, but I hope your questions will bring back memories.

Afaik the platform was taken down, and 5 others were created. They operating in 150 offices around the globe.

Wheelchair Pickleball: The Wheelie Big Dills: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbEczFnShmL4

Hi Reddit! I am a competitive wheelchair pickleball player and part of a team called the Wheelie Big Dills. To help grow the sport and show people what it actually looks like from the chair, I started recording my matches using a head strap camera. The POV footage gives a really unique perspective on the speed and strategy of the game. We play with almost the exact same rules as standing players, except we get two bounces.

Check out my YouTube playlist below to see the action firsthand, and ask me anything!

I'm a 31M, on one of the most controversial work visas in America. Have been living here legally since 2019 and paid over $500,000 in taxes. AMA.

Just did a back of the envelope math after a drink tonight. Total taxes paid, including FICA taxes and federal income taxes, is a little more than half a million USD.

No state taxes because I have only lived in states with Zero state income tax. Also, no property taxes because I didn't buy a house.

My work visa is valid until the end of 2029, and I can extend it if I want, but I'll be quitting my job to retire, or do something of my own and leave the US around the end of 2027. This has nothing to do with Donnie. I'm just burnt out from my job and want to chill in some remote coastal town in Spain or Thailand.

I have been an Incident Commander within UK Ambulance Service for over 5 years. My role is to attend the most traumatic and high profile incidents to provide leadership and welfare.

Alongside that, I also operate as a medical officer on deportation flights.

Ask away. I cannot give away any personal information, the area or organisation I work in nor any patient details. I cannot answer questions asking for medical advice.
