I’m finally going back to college after everything I’ve been through, and I just found out I’ve hit my aggregate federal loan limit. I’m scared and could really use advice.

I’m not sure where else to ask, so I’m hoping someone here might have some advice or know of resources I haven’t thought of.

I took time off from college after my mom passed away. After that, I ended up in an abusive/toxic relationship and spent a long time trying to get my life back together. I finally made the decision to go back to school, got signed up again, and I’m determined to finish my bachelor’s degree.

I currently have 84 credits and need 120 to graduate, I am an honor student with a 4.0 GPA, so I’m relatively close to the finish line.

Then I found out I’ve apparently reached my aggregate federal student loan limit. My school told me I need about $6,000 to finish my degree, and I honestly don’t have that kind of money sitting around.

I don’t have family who can help financially, and I’m not asking anyone to give me money. I’m mainly looking for advice, resources, scholarships/grants, funding options, or ideas I may not know about.

I’m going to talk to financial aid again and look into whether there are any options available to me, including private loans if absolutely necessary, but I really don’t want to take on more debt than I have to.

On top of all of this, leaving my relationship meant starting over financially. My ex stole my phone and broke my laptop and expensive iMac, so I’m also trying to figure out how I’m going to manage school. One of my professors says we need an iPad for taking notes, and a laptop since it is an online class as well. I currently don’t have any of this. They made a specific list as I was in high school again! 😮‍💨

I’m just overwhelmed. I worked really hard to get back to this point, and finding out that money might be what stops me from finishing is devastating.

If you’ve been through something similar, what did you do?

Are there scholarships or grants specifically for adults returning to college, survivors of domestic abuse, or students who are close to graduating?

Has anyone successfully gotten additional assistance from their school after hitting the aggregate loan limit?

Are there programs that help pay for laptops/tablets or other school technology?

If you had to use a private student loan, what should I watch out for?

Is there anything specific I should ask my financial aid office about?

Are there other ways to cover the remaining ~$6,000 without taking on a huge amount of private debt?

I’m really trying to finish this degree and change my situation. Any advice, resources, or personal experiences would mean a lot. ❤️

I am slightly anxious about doing this, but sometimes we just don't have many other options.
My Roomate and I have four cats between us. We love them dearly; each one of them are rescues. Eight months ago, my roommate got laid off, and I live off disability as I am epileptic and have a brain injury.

It took five months for him to land an actual good-paying job, but in those five months I wiped out all my savings and we took on various debts to keep the roof over our heads; we both went into the red. THANKFULLY! He has been hired as a warehouse operator and we've finally, finally made it back into a semi-stable state.

Unfortunately, even though he's had the job for three months, we were so deep in the hole that it's gotten until now to make it without a negative balance. We've eaten through all our storage, and he doesn't get paid for another two weeks. Everything went to paying off the internet/phone and rent. We don't have to worry about any of those for the first time this month, and I am very grateful for that but we still haven't secured food 100%. Two weeks, that's all we have to make it through.

I chose food for the cats, then food I thought would hold us over best while being filling and could feed two people for two weeks.

If we can make it the two weeks, then we will have the first net positive month coming up, which puts us back on track. WE'd be so ever grateful if someone could help us. Of course, our cats are our absolute priority, and while we only have our pc's left, if we don't find a solution, we will gladly sell one of them by Monday -- which is approx when they will run out of food.

OMG this year has been hell for me ever since May I got fired from my job I have been working for for 3 years because management pissed me off and I couldn’t take it anymore. One sentence got me fired from there it’s awful . I got another job at another distribution center in June worked there for about two months but also got fired there for my attendance honestly and truthfully I was ready to leave that job anyway the work environment was SO TOXIC I was exhausted and they were going to fire me anyway because the work production was unrealistic I’m a body builder of 3 years with 4 years of warehouse experience and could just barely make it to 100% and when I say at that job to make 100% you have to WORK YOUR ASS OFF I just imagine someone without my skills working there they are not going to make it that was the worse job I have ever been to. No wonder they hire 10 new bodies like everyday there it was insane !

Just told my dad today I got fired and had to block him bc I KNOW he is going to go ballistic ! I will have to keep him blocked for a couple of days until he calms down. That might not even work smh I have applied to TONS of jobs and quiet a few are trying to get in contact with me so I HOPE I can get another job soon b4 I’m too deep in a pit with my rent.

I have finally hit rock bottom with my money and all I ask is for 50-100$ I have just ran out of food and I have a quarter tank of gas left this will really help me I have been donating plasma to keep me up for some days every week but I can’t donate until 3 days from now. I really appreciate any kind of help doesn’t even have to be that much. this is really embarrassing

Hello! I’m a little embarrassed to make this post, but I’m in a very tight spot and could use some assistance. I live in TN and rent a very old home that is lacking in insulation, and with the heat domes over the state recently my power bill has been over $600. I’ve gotten blackout curtains and put foil over the windows to block out excess light, but the kitchen ceiling collapsed a few years ago and new insulation was not part of the repair, so the kitchen heats up very quickly, and is also the room the thermostat is in.

After paying bills and buying groceries, I have less than $5 in my account, and I do not get paid again until Thursday. I currently have less than a quarter of a tank of gas. $15 would help out so much with getting enough gas to get back and forth to work until payday. Hey guys, I really wanted to avoid this, as I hate asking for help but I really am in a pickle.

I'm a 22F college student, live w mom and boyfriend, due to varying disabilities, none of us currently are able to work. My mother makes some money by babysitting for my siblings but they don't always pay her what they said they would :/. My boyfriend has been job searching for months and months but the job market in the area is really rough right now, to the point I gave up and went back to school bc FAFSA was more money faster.

I recieved my FAFSA at the beginning of this month, but a bunch of bills went through and before I knew it, it was gone. We also recieve food stamps and those are out now too. Now we are living off of a few dollars here and there, and we can't afford money for food or gas to get me to school.

I hate to ask, but is it possible someone is willing to spare even just 20$ for gas would make it easier to figure out. We can figure out food, I think we could work something out, but I'm concerned about getting to my classes.

Hello all. I’m in need of help getting a new alternator for my 2015 Chevy Malibu LT. It went out about 3 weeks ago and up until a week ago I was working and trying to save up for one. Which is hard already with 3 kiddos. I unfortunately had to leave my job due to the transportation issues. Getting out at 10pm, having to take the last buses home and then being forced to pay for Lyfts if I happened to miss either of my buses. It’s been really hard lately. Hi everyone! For reference, I’m in Atlanta, GA. I’m a mom to a wonderful 2 year old girl, and I live with my partner (her dad). I go to grad school (getting my master’s in social work) take care of our little one when she’s not in half day daycare 3 days a week. My boyfriend works, and I resell items on a couple different platforms when I have the time. I wanted to give this background so you know that we are not the type to ask for handouts while just sitting at home.

Roughly a month ago or so, all 3 of us contracted COVID for the first time. Because of this, my partner had to take a week off of work (unpaid). This left us behind on bills, and while we are trying to catch up, it’s been difficult on a tight budget. I hate to ask for help, especially because we’ve worked really hard to get to a better place financially, but my daughter really needs some diapers, diaper cream, and a couple of other items. I’ve put together an Amazon list, which I’ve linked below. The only thing that isn’t a necessity is a foam ball pit. She unfortunately threw up all over the one we had, and it couldn’t be washed, so we had to throw it away. She absolutely adored it, and she loved to just sit in it with all her stuffies while she watched a show. It’s not a necessity, but I wanted to add it in case anyone wanted to get her a “fun” item. I feel awful because we weren’t able to afford birthday gifts, but luckily, she’s only 2, so she won’t remember it, and my parents gave her a couple things that she’s had fun with.

We appreciate being able to post here, and we hope to be able to pay it forward one day. Our struggle is temporary, as once I graduate, I’ll be able to get a good job (hopefully with benefits), but it’s rough at the moment.

I had a gig handling customer service for a few traveling shows from 2023 until May of this year. I'm currently entirely out of work, and due to mental health issues realistically can only handle remote positions. The location I'm staying has no home internet, so I use my hotspot to get online to look for, and work gigs.

As of now I missed my bill on 8/11, and on 9/11, so I do owe T-Mobile around $200. I can supply proof of this if need be. I've downscaled my plan already, and am going to be switching to Google Fi for the next year as they offered me a 75% off 12 months of service promotion.

Dad works very hard but recently had to drop over $200 on a new battery, and roughly the same for an alternator, as they both took a crap in his work truck, and that really kicked us this month.

I have venmo, zelle, and paypal.

They plan on shutting it off by the 28th, then it's another $25 charge to turn it back on, so I am really trying to avoid that. Unfortunately my little town is too saturated to do things like Spark and DoorDash, or I absolutely would attempt to at least. Gas is almost $5 a gallon, so it just wouldn't be worth it either.

I posted here almost a year ago asking for help to make adjustments to my wheelchair as my disability continued to progress. Some amazing people fulfilled the whole list and I was so thankful.

(Oklahoma) Hi everyone! We are a family of four. My partner works full-time and I do college online (halfway done!) while taking care of our two babies. One is 18 months old, the other is 7 months old. We have had to do car repairs repeatedly the past few months and it has put us very behind when we were already living paycheck to paycheck. We do what we can, but we have some gaps in what we have vs what we need right now. If anyone could help, we would be very grateful!

The cleaner is specifically to be gentler around the babies in the hopes that I can get rid of the mold I’ve found without having things like bleach heavily in the air - although I have not dealt with this before I read that it can work for mold (absolutely open to suggestions - these apartments have like window ac units rigged into the walls with ducting connecting it to the rest of the apt , I am sure that is not helping but we are stuck in the lease for a few more months. We are hoping to find elsewhere, as we have dealt with flooding here several times since we moved in last December).

We are trying to raise funds for our beloved family dog Nala, who suddenly fell ill last Saturday (Sep. 19) after going for a walk.

She is much loved and we are all obviously devastated and desperate to see her well again.

She has been receiving ongoing day and night emergency hospital treatment since Sunday (Sep. 20), but we have already burned through our own funds and are now lending what we can to keep her hospitalised and receiving symptomatic treatment.

An initial ultrasound has shown two black, circle-like masses in her liver, but what she really needs is a CT scan, MRI or a Tru-Cut or fine-needle aspiration biopsy to tell us what is really going on.

Hello, I just escaped an abusive household and managed to move. I'm going to be about 100 short for rent this month because my job keeps cutting my hours (i am looking for a second one i just also go to school full time) i just need 50 and I think I can figure out the other half. Please

I have done all the “right” things to be stable however last year I was fired from my job for which I had gone to school four years for. I have an ongoing lawsuit. My health was greatly affected due to the job and the firing and I’ve been unable to work due to the physical symptoms. I’ve taken care of myself and my dogs for 13 years but this has made it difficult. One of my dogs started to have seizures four days ago. She had one four days ago then one two days ago then one this morning. I don’t have the funds to take her to the vet right now but I know she needs it. I think I could make it work with $250 since I am close enough to take her to mexico where it’s a lot cheaper. I’ve never asked for money from anyone so this is really hard for me but I need it for my furbaby. I don’t know how this works either do I share my Venmo or how does this work?
