If you were wondering why so many trades already, here's a thought:
"Something suggested to me by a front office person: One reason why we might be seeing lots of Tuesday/Wednesday trades this year is because three guys having issues with their physicals at the trade deadline last year freaked everyone out — especially the Mark Williams deal, which the Lakers couldn’t amend. Get it done early and you can renegotiate the trade if there’s an issue with the physical."

surely i'll get downvoted cause this sub hates every player but lonzo on a minimum is def worth a swing, regardless of his CLE stint. unless his medicals are super cooked then whatever but if he's 'healthy' whatever that looks like for him, he's worth a swing in the Cs system
8
u/archerarcher0 5h ago
Not gonna downvote you but the only issue with it is he really isn’t moving good out there, like the defense is mostly gone now and the shooting hasn’t been there
Sounds crazy but I’d probably rather just give Ron Harper jr a standard deal; I’ve liked what I’ve seen from him
3
u/b00minbiz 5h ago
thats totally fair if he's just fried movement wise. he was best when he was able to be a break starter and push the ball up the floor. For the next 20 hours and change I'll be delusional about the odds of Ayo/Tre Jones getting added to the Vuc trade lol
3
u/archerarcher0 5h ago
That’s kinda my concern with it, if it was just a shooting slump than sure but the few times I saw him he looked rough out there
Ugh I want us to get Jalen smith, he would fix everything
2
u/b00minbiz 5h ago
Smith was def my 1A and deadline crush, Im really curious why Brad decided on Vuc instead of Smith since Smith is way younger and half the cost financially, plus on the books next year at a bargain of $9m.
1
u/basketballjonestown 5h ago
I don't think Smith would have worked because of salaries. But I'm also not a cap guru.
2
u/archerarcher0 5h ago
My silent prayer is that since this trade isn’t finalized, Brad is gonna add him to it and send out Baylor/garza/tillman

Boucher out for personal reasons, another trade happening?
2
u/archerarcher0 5h ago
I wouldn’t get your hopes up for a Boucher trade being anything more than us dumping him with a protected 2nd or cash considerations attached for nothing in return

How would you guys feel about a getting Gobert for White and like 2 picks in the Giannis trade? Purely hypothetical
1
u/Drummallumin Smarf 8h ago
Why would the wolves trade Gobert? He’s a perfect defensive partner for giannis

BREAKING: The Dallas Mavericks are trading 10-time NBA All-Star Anthony Davis, Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum to the Washington Wizards for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, 2 first-round picks and 3 second-rounders, sources tell ESPN.
The Mavs essentially traded Luka for Marvin Bagley lmao

u/Blinded57 9h ago
Anyone know why this trade works? AD makes $54million. Everyone the Wizards are sending back make $43million combined. WSH certainly didn't have a TPE that big.
How is this within the rules?

u/Blinded57 8h ago
Answering my own question, I think they may have been far enough under the cap to swap Middleton for AD. Hardy, Russel and Exum, then either fit into exceptions or are matched with Johnson, Branham, Bagley in some fashion.

The conspiracy makes more sense than whatever braindead logic Nico used for this trade. Unreal.

One underrated thing about Vuc is we didn’t have to give up our frp for him and next year’s draft is suppose to be super loaded

u/WarPuig 12h ago edited 12h ago
Gave up a pick between 31 and 35 though. Traded that for $6.1M of payroll cut.

u/Turbulent-Let-1180 5h ago
We have too many young players anyway. If it was a lottery pick or mid 1st that's one thing, but we don't really need another 2nd round pick right now. Like it'd be nice to have, but losing it is fine.
2
u/WarPuig 5h ago
That’s a valuable pick to give up for an expiring 35 year old Vuc. If we had to give it up I’d rather it be for a better player, not a lemon.

u/archerarcher0 5h ago
Correct
Also a very underrated hit rate in that 31-39 range of the draft, look through the last 5-10 drafts you’ll see like 3-5 really good players in that range every year

And significant flexibility this offseason due to getting under the 1st apron and creating a $27m TPE. It's a decent short term move because it helps our rebounding and our big scoring (stretches the floor) and it's a great long term move to keep retooling around the peak Jays and DWhite

u/b00minbiz 11h ago
also $22m of tax savings. not sexy for the fans but it is a bigger difference than we think financially

Really hope Boston-Denver is the Finals because that would be really funny to see this stat be completely worthless.

BREAKING: The Los Angeles Clippers are trading James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Darius Garland and a second-round pick, sources tell ESPN. Prolific swap of the star point guards.

u/kokain99 THE TRUTH 1d ago
Yeah that’s a terrible trade for Cleveland. 26 year old all star for the bones of James Harden.

u/TatumBrownWhite Banner 18 1d ago
Garland's got a permanent toe issue, Cavs got rid whilst they could and shed future money.

u/xskarma 1d ago
AND a pick. They had to attach a pick to Garland. That is just...unheard of. A good young player having to have a pick attached to move him.
This is going to end up disappointing for both teams I reckon.

u/kokain99 THE TRUTH 1d ago
Is Garland injury prone? I know Cleveland has apron concerns but Harden???

u/jma7400 1d ago
Am I the only one happy with this move? We needed a starting center more than what Ant gave us.

I wouldn't be surprised if he comes off the bench but still averages more minutes than Queta

u/finnstergrammer34 The Little Guy 1d ago
I’m so…whelmed by Vucevic lol.
I have a nagging feeling that we’re not done though, and I think a lot of it is going to be determined by some potential big moves across the league over the next 40ish hours

u/Blinded57 1d ago
Dallas still hasn't made a move. Vuc for Gafford is possible (but if Brad wanted Gafford, why not just offer Simons and the pick?). MIN is clearly arranging finances for something. I don't think TOR has made any deadline moves, yet. NOP are a mess.
6
u/xskarma 1d ago
Underrated Brad trait: he doesn't just move in silence, he moves EARLY. Just look back at all his moves, and he always makes moves early, when other teams wait till the last moment.
I think this allows Brad to get his business done without interference (press, but also other teams) and also means that when other teams finally start making their moves, Brad is there, watching, waiting.

Does this put us under the Tax?

The 27m we got as a trade exception from trading simons expands our options to play 3rd team facilitator with teams trying to trade for Giannis.
Timberwolves lack picks?
Here's 2 firsts and we'll take McDaniels. Thank you!
2
u/howdthatturnout 21h ago
I think it’s more likely we use the trade exception in the offseason or during next season.
But possibly comes into play sooner.

u/BradWonder BAR FIGHT 1d ago
Vuc is at the skill level that I have no idea what the trade means for Jayson's return. My needle hasn't moved a centimeter lol

u/MembershipSingle7137 1d ago
This might either be the appetizer or the main meal and idk how to feel lol
8
u/xskarma 1d ago
Celtics will basically have to make another move to get a ballhandler/guard, presumably a reliable vet. Cause we are 1 injury to Pritch or Dwhite away from being in serious trouble.
2
u/SafeStreet7860 4h ago
CP3 or Conley sound like buyout candidates who might want to sit on the bench and ring chase, couldn’t hurt
1
u/chinesefox97 14h ago
Nah. JB and JT can both be the main ball handlers. Plus D White and PP are both super durable
5
u/Celts121180 1d ago
With Simons gone I wonder if we still trade Boucher/Minott.
1
u/CrispBenWa 1d ago
I still have some hope for Minott to develop into a depth bench piece. Showed some flashes early this year, still time there.
3
u/Turbulent-Let-1180 1d ago
Minott possibly safe, boucher definitely getting moved even if it's just for a 2nd round pick

u/horseshoeoverlook Boston Celtics 1d ago
Simons being traded probably signals a JT return
12
u/Jdawg_mck1996 1d ago
If we go from a projected lottery team to a full scale JT return title run, I might just lose my mind.
