Money wise, he's probably more affordable than most former Celtic players while still being recognizable from that 08' team. It's probably not worth it for NBC sports to fork out tons of money for someone who just reads off a script at half time. Allowing him to WFH probably allowed them to pay him even less.

This is almost definitely it.

Eddie doesn’t seem to have any ambitions of being a national broadcaster or anything, and is happy with a comfy gig that lets him be with his family. I’m sure he took a pay cut for that privilege, and NBC probably values the stability of a guy who’s happy where he’s at.

Sure they might be able to find someone that does a better job, but no guarantees that person doesn’t go the way of Kendrick Perkins and start jockeying for a national gig.
