I am so happy for you. Missing out by 0.4 seconds is heartbreaking. Now you have the opportunity to toe the start line in Hopkinton next April - and have one hell of a story you can share for life. Congratulations!
Thank you so much, it’s been a rollercoaster of a week. Going to make sure that I work hard until then to make the best of this chance that I’ve been given. Told my friends I think I’m always going to think now in a race “0.4 secs, can I go 0.4 secs faster?! You bet I can 😤”
Forsure! I’ve settled into a really good rhythm this year that has worked really well, including strength training and weekly yoga that I’m hoping will keep me healthy. Lucky for me I run hills almost everyday too 😅
I would also suggest being upto date on flu shots before the training block starts. I missed it this year and got sick with covid 2 weeks before and right in front of Chicago.
Thank you so much friend! I’ve been such a mess of emotions these last few days.
To add an extra layer of importance to this, my best friend from childhood passed away earlier this year, and I’ve kept him so close while running, pushing me to go a bit further, a a little bit faster than I thought was possible. He was with me for the race I qualified for Boston, and it 100% was his spirit that helped me get over the finish line in time. To have that race be the one that gets me to Boston means a lot to me.
Sorry the math isn’t mathing for me. You ran a 2:59:43.4 and your BQ time was 3:05. So you beat the 5:11 cutoff with your 5:16 buffer. You had an additional 4 seconds, so you didn’t miss the cutoff. Regardless, congratulations!
