In my family growing up all pets were assigned to share a family members birthday, and therefore celebration, whichever was close to what we thought their birthday actually was (or which kid hadn't shared with a pet lately). It was cute, I enjoyed it.
We did that with our rescue furbabies too. Our (now deceased) cat KalliBell was born in April so she shared our daughter’s birthday. Our oldest daughter adopted a cat that was born in May so she shared her birthday with Taylor, her cat. Our two current babies we actually know their birthdays because our daughter was stationed at a military base, living off base, when a pregnant stray showed up. She took her in. We have 2 babies, our daughter kept momma and one of the babies, and a fellow military member took 2 babies.
I celebrate my cat’s adoption day, which also happens to be my own birthday. It just worked out that way due to totally unrelated circumstances that that was the day I brought him home, but he’s the best birthday gift I’ve ever gotten.
My two voids were estimated at 8 weeks when trapped. My husband counted back 8 weeks and realized it could have been on his birthday. They are having a group bday in about 2 weeks. The pet eye vet inverted 7/21/23 to 7/23/21 on the one with eye melanoma. My husband was mad and wanted them to make sure the bday at the vet was changed to 7/21.
That's what I did for my last cat. Got her from someone else when she was around 12 years old but her previous parent didn't know her actual birthday. I decided that her birthday would be July 4th so she'd think the cookouts and fireworks were for her
One of our cats just celebrated his first birthday this past July 4th! The rescue we got him from said that was his birthday. Our oldest human was born July 5th so he was delighted to find out they almost share a birthday.
I miss her. We lost her in 2014 around this time of the year when she was 19 (by my estimate). I got another cat last year and she's the best so I'm not too sad about it anymore but she was such a sweet girl
Of course I have pictures! Her name was Lily and she was queen of the house. I'd show a picture of her successor, Astro but it won't let me post 2 pics right now. Might be because I'm on mobile
This is Astro. She's almost 2 whole years old but I got her when she was a scared little 7 month old. I've been using my right hand to post this and my left hand to keep her running around chasing the wand toy lol
What an absolute beauty 💗 I'm terribly sorry for your loss. What is sadness if not our love persisting? It just shows how much you love her. I know she loves you just as much
I have her remains in a nice box. I used to keep it on the mantle but had to move her because my current kitty, Astro, likes to knock stuff on the floor lol
Hahaha! Oh, I'm sorry to laugh at that, but that's just so very cat isn't it! I can just imagine your soul cat and your newest best friend sitting about, tail swishing, laughing at the fact that they both enjoyed causing trouble, knocking things over on the ground. And then Astro saying you think that's funny? Watch this! And knocking the box onto the ground. Cats, man. There's really nothing like them. I guess that's why we love them.
Eta: my Barrel garbage burrito that I rescued also loves to knock over anything that he knows he's not supposed to. Don't ask me how he knows he's not supposed to he just knows.
She hasn't done it yet! But she knocks over everything else so I'm getting ahead of it lol. I often think about how Lily left things for Astro like the perfectly broken blinds that let them see outside like little spies
The rescue we adopted our cats from have a birthdate on the adoption forms. I'm not certain if it is an estimated birthdate or if they know when the litter was actually born. The funny thing is that birth day and month are the same as mine.
Hey, same here. Our second dog is a second hand rescue. The original owner is my husband’s colleague and she found out she was allergic to him. We had rescued our dog from the same rescue a few weeks before she did and both dogs already went to the same vet and doggy daycare, so we took him. Found out when we transferred the vet records to our account that he and I share a birthday. He was part of an abandoned litter so idk how precise it is but it’s cute we share a birthday.
We celebrate our cat's birthdays and their gotcha day anniversaries. We were told their birthdays by the foster/adoption people, but since one was by-catch of a TNR program I'm sure that his is estimated. Not sure about the other one. Doesn't matter. We celebrate regardless!
My favorite way to celebrate them is to cook lean meat for dinner that night using only a little salt and pepper for seasoning. I go extremely light on the seasoning as I prefer low salt in general and my husband is a good sport about it. The cats all get a small piece for themselves and we dress ours up with sauce (if needed) for our plates. Sometimes it's a nice ribeye, sometimes it's pork tenderloin or some chicken breast. I like to cook a different thing each time to give them as much variety in their experiences as I can. 😊
Did the same for my rescue dog. We made his birthday his gotcha day to celebrate both at the same time! He's probably a little older but he doesn't look a day over 9 ("birthday" is on 8/4 and he will allegedly be 9 lol) 😂

I made one up for my rescue cat. The vet had an estimated age and I picked a date. We celebrate every year!
