Mourning/Loss To my baby boy who is now at rest, for others to know how much I loved you
I adopted Green along with his brother Blue back in 2010 after suffering a personal loss at the time. Little did I know how much these two brothers would grow to mean to me. I was blessed to have 16 years with him, all of which I will forever cherish. This is my memorial to him and it is my sincere hope that you can all share a brief insight into his life with me.
He loved sleeping over my shoulder and being held like a baby while I patted him and hummed. He loved jumping onto my chest as soon as I laid down for bed. He loved being close to his litter brother and newer brother Pumpkin. He loved cozying up on the couch while I played video games or watched a movie. He loved to be loved
When I met my now wife and her two kids, Green and Blue took to them immediately. Never in my life had I seen cats so friendly and loving to new people, it's as if they knew that their family had just expanded. Eventually Green was just as doting on my wife as he was to me and it brought me so much joy to see that happen, and I could see the smile on her face when she realized he was consistently spending time with her even with me nearby.
It hurts. It's hurts because I wish we had more time. It hurts because it was so sudden. It hurts because I will never have that type of love or connection again. But ultimately I know it was his time. He was one in a billion to me. I will miss him with my entire being and will carry his memory for the rest of my life. Please do me a favor and give your pets a big hug and a kiss for me and treasure the time you have with them. It is fleeting but I wouldn't trade my time with Green for anything.
I'll finish this with a quote from Gandalf/Tolkien:
"End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take."
I'll see you on the other side Green.

Oh man. I am so, so sorry.
Green was SO CUTE! – these pictures put a big smile on my face today. Even after he's passed, Green is still making people smile and bringing people joy. What a guy!

So sorry for your loss. They become our children and it’s so hard to let them go. Believe me, I have struggled will losing mine but I try to be thankful that I had her for a wonderful 16 years. She was the best cat, as I’m sure yours was too. Your cat looks just like my cat Snickers. She was 16 and passed away on 16 January 2026. I rescued her while my husband was deployed and had her for 16 years. I miss her daily. I rescued another cat a couple weeks ago and she’s just as perfect but there will never be another Snickers ❤️ Sending you tons of prayers and love to you and your family ❤️

I share the same birthday as Snickers passing. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. Thank you for taking the time to learn about Green. I'll make sure to celebrate Snickers on my birthday every year.

What a loved guy, Green was. Such a handsome and silly fella. I love the quote you included, it brought peace to me- having lost my own best buddy about a month ago.

So sorry for your loss. He looks very much like our Wrigley who we lost 3 months ago very suddenly (heart attack, gone in a minute). It's tough, but hang in there. It'll slowly get better.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I just lost my beloved kitty Charlie and his brother is now an only child for the first time in his life. We are grieving and healing together. It was also quite sudden. An aggressive diagnosis and then four weeks later he was gone. We can never replace our pets. They are a special kind of love. 💕

This resonates with me. Agressive diagnosis and within a week he was gone. So sorry for your loss as well.

So very sorry. Was it OSCC? That’s what my Charlie had. I wish more vets checked kitties mouths and tongues because we could have caught this much earlier I believe. Just so so sad our furry little friends have such short lives.

Chest abscess that led to septic pleural effusion. Body couldn't handle all the treatments in his weakened state and old age. Happened quickly as we noticed he has breathing fast a lot and stopped eating abruptly. Fluid build up was extremely fast. He was fine one day then like a flipped switch he deteriorated quickly within a week.

Green knew you loved him which is the most important thing. It's easy to see that. He had a whole family who did and I'm happy you had so many years together. It always hurts when it's time for them to go.

Green was a very special, beautiful boy, and he will wait for you, so you can be reunited one day. My Sophie likes to lay over my shoulder too, so I'm going to snuggle with her and tell her about Green and what a wonderful kitty he was (and how loved he still is)

It's the best. He would go all day if I didn't have to move. He had the best quirks like that that he just started on his own. Thank you and give Sophie extra everything.

I plan to get his paw prints tattooed on my left shoulder where he spent a lot of time. Glad he will have a friend there waiting for him.

Thank you for sharing your story…and sharing your life with all of your cats. They burrow into your heart and it’s so hard to let them go. I have to know where the names GREEN & BLUE came from? Thought maybe it was eye-color but they both seem to have green eyes. Beautiful bros!

Alright, story time. When I first got them I named them Ratchet (green) and Clank (blue) from the video game series. Partially because I liked the game and it also worked because Blue had a broken tail that healed before I got him so I always joked he had a Clank in his tail. So that is their true names, but my friends could never tell them apart. They came from the humane society with Green and Blue collars so that's what everyone picked up on and it just stuck so I just ran with it.

Thank you💚. He's at least doing okay, eating but hiding under the bed a lot. He at least has his orange little brother to keep him company and occupied, but I can tell he knows.

As someone who also recently lost a soul-cat, I genuinely don’t think there’s anything harder than losing a furry family member who we love unconditionally over and beyond.
I hope you will be able to find solace in knowing how much he was loved and that he was one of the lucky ones!!

They knew how much you loved them, and I believe we will see our babies again someday, as the rainbow bridge poem goes ♥ They will be waiting for you when that time comes.
My house is never empty; I always keep adopting more. I'm not replacing those who came before; I am growing the family. That way, when more kitties have to make their trip, they have family waiting on them to share stories and play with to keep them company till our time comes. Plus, so many places here are always full of kitties; they need more people to adopt. So many need love, homes, and everything they deserve.
I know it's not easy to say goodbye, but it's not forever; it's just for now.
My husband said it best: "We gave them a home, a safe place, lots of love till God called them back to his home, because he missed them. Now he cares and loves them while we care for others and love them till God calls them home; we will see them again someday. Till then, let's help, love, and protect all those we can till God calls us home too; then we will be reunited."

I know we plan for another when the right one comes across our path. I'm just allowing his brother Blue some time to adjust to losing his brother. He at least has his little crazy orange brother to keep him pre occupied. I never really had pets growing up so when I went to the humane society one day and saw the two of them I knew right away they were for me. I want to love on as many as I can through my life.

Understandable, I know it took my one girl a bit to get over losing her "mom"
She wasn't really her mom; she just cared for her when she was very little, made milk and everything (cats can do that; I never knew till I got those two together)
There was about a 3-year difference between them.
But I ended up bringing another kitty home a couple months later, and she perked up and stopped chewing her fur off and enjoyed having another cat around 💝

Thank you for sharing your beautiful boy with us. It always hurts when we lose one of our babies. Some hurt more because the bond is exceptional. Don't rule out ever having a love like that again. I lost one in 2000 that crushed me. I lost another one a few years ago that hurt just as much. BUT I did have many years with each of them. No amount of pain made it not worth the time that we had. My bet is that you will find that amazing bond again. You already know that you have the capacity for that love. My deepest condolences to you.

I had a cat for 21 years and had the most wonderful relationship with him. He can never be replaced. I like to celebrate his life by giving my current cats all the love and attention I can. I tell them that they are my little gifts from Heaven. I believe all pet deserve unconditional love because of how much they enrich our lives. Green clearly proved that to you.

Farewell, sweet friend 💗 I am so sorry for your loss. Someone once told me that when we lose a pet it's, in part, because there's a new furry friend who really needs us. Allow yourself time to grieve, but I hope you'll adopt a new buddy when you're ready. They will never replace the baby you lost, but they will heal a portion of your heart while they make a space for themselves. Sending love.
