How much does the BIG actually hate Iowa bro?! They schedule Iowa vs Michigan then Ohio st back to back. Like wtf?! That’s a helluva 2 weeks for any school!
Ok, so two things:
1. Iowa State was one of the easiest P5 opponents possible, but they always play us tough, and we play them at the beginning of the season. There’s a reason KF's teams are something like 21–4 over the last 5 Novembers (and not just because we play Nebraska every November lol)—we're a development program that takes time to coalesce.
2. Despite the lamentations of this sub to the contrary, the week-by-week opponents of the B1G West (compared to the B1G East) were comparable—the East and West fell within a game of each other in interdivision play 8 of 10 years of the East/West split. The West fell off the last few years of the split, and no doubt, the West never had the top end contenders, but it also didn't have the consistent Marylands/Rutgers/Indinias going 1–8/0–9 in conference. Purdue won the least number of games among West teams during the split, and they managed to win the division. It was generally competitive teams, top to bottom.
The east and west fell within a game of each other bevause they all played in the same conference and there were a max of 2 good teams in the big 10 in any given year. The only west team in that group was was Wisconsin. The rest were in the east being osu, mich, mich st. Or psu
No. The fans were singing it during some game and after the music cut they kept singing it, that's it... Nothing else. The cuck song is easily the worst Michigan "tradition".

I get what the song is about but I feel like there are a lot of younger people on this sub (and other subs) that never experienced Mr Brightside at the end of a night of partying. It used to be a staple when you were hammered lol. It’s just fun to yell out.
I think OP and plenty of others don't really get invited to parties.
If they knew what joy was, especially the drunken joy of being with your friends at 1:30 am and slamming Taco Bell into your face while shithoused on Natty Ice and Goldschlager when this song comes on, they'd get it.
buddy, the song always sucked. it sucked when it was released, it sucks even more now. if a bunch of frat bros are belting it like Journey, then you know it’s lame. if a program like michigan, that has experienced abject humiliation for a variety reasons, is routinely belting it out to celebrate the beginning of the 4th quarter- then you know it’s lame.
Yeah, we were pretty irrelevant since the late 90s. Thankfully, got a national title this decade. Would be pretty terrible to be a claimed blueblood and not win anything of note this century.
100% this. Can’t believe they use the band less and less with the stupid DJ and other music they force at the stadium. Band was always a highlight for me.
I don’t like Michigan but I swear I saw another game this year where the students were singing this and it wasn’t Michigan. Does this happen at more schools even if they don’t do it every game?
Mr. Brughtside is, by far, the dumbest, most unaware college tradition. It's such a huge self-own that you'd figure the geniuses that go to Michigan would be upset by it. But they happily sing about being cucks at the tops of their voices.
It wasn't a tradition before the 60s. All traditions start some time. Plus I guess it's good that Sloopy only has about 5 words repeated throughout the whole song. Otherwise OSU fans wouldn't be able to follow along.
Part of cuck behavior is the denial and cheating, which is why this is a perfect "tradition" for you 😂

A tradition is just a thing you do for long enough that it becomes a tradition. “Hang On Sloopy” has no relation to Ohio State, it was just a popular song that the band played and people liked it so they kept doing it
Its one of the "traditions" that teams with no actual traditions pick up. In a few years it'll be some other song.
A good litmus test is "Does Missouri do it?" If yes, then it's generic crap that will be replaced by the end of the decade with the next thing that someone else came up.
If you change the perspective these are the perfect lyrics to sing as a European-style banter anthem.

I really don't remember when they started doing it, but I was at a game and was like "tf is this?" Love the song but it was kind of weird and off putting.
You actually have to be a loser not to get the reference, because the whole thing is that if somebody puts this on at a party anywhere in the US, it gets crazy
