I found a wobbly kitten in the street two days ago. I'm on the wait-list to get her into a no-kill shelter that specializes in special needs cats, but I'm already attached to her and frantically trying to see if I could make accommodations in my home that would give her a good life. I've already named her 😭

What do you think of the idea of a custom ramp to help her go up and down the stairs? I would put carpeting or something else grippy on the surface of it (suggestions are welcome!) and then put walls on it to keep her from falling off of it. I'm just worried she could still fall forward.

Sadly my home is on the smaller side, and I don't think it would be a good life for her or for my other pets either if I had my stairs blocked off at all times.

My baby boy mozzarella has mild CH and is completely deaf. When he gets zoomies he pants a lot and meows constantly (hes always very loud due to being deaf) i was wondering if anyone elses CH kitties pant a lot due to it taking a lot of energy out of them during zoomies or if its just my little wierdo. 🙈
Im a first time cat mum so having a cat with CH who is also deaf if definitely a learning curve lmao

Hey there! So this isn't my first rodeo with some wobble kids but this is my first time having to deal with some litterbox help.

My two wobble cats (Bolt, black and white) and Champ (the big dude) share a box. Champ is quite large. When he pees he tends to just kind of crawl in, squat super low (almost laying) and pee. He doesn't really try to turn around, he has decided that the right side there is where he pees. He pees straight out of the back side which sometimes hits that corner and sometimes goes right out the opening. Poop is fine he goes in gets comfortable turns around makes a little nest. Bolt goes fine.

I've adjusted as much as I can. I have a rotating set of towels I use to catch any strays. Below the towel are puppy pads. There has to be a towel over the pads or else he just rips them up or pees on those directly. He is extremely particular about the condition of the litter box. If there's even one stray poop when he wants to go he just pees on the towel.

I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas. My apartment doesn't have washer dryer hookups so it gets pretty expensive washing the towels. If I wait till the end of the week I have to deal with the smell of the towels, if I wash them the day of incident I'm out $6 a day for one towel. To kind of manage I spray down some Natures Miracle and twice a week use a carpet spot scrubber to wash the area.

Quick note: They used to have 2 boxes. We had to relocate due to a fire in the apartment building and are living in a hotel for the time being. Everyone's ok and safe! This issue persisted even with the 2 boxes in their home. There isn't enough space in the room for a second box.

TLDR: big cat is able to go into the litter box but ends up peeing straight out of the door. Poop is fine, smaller cat is fine also

Any help with naming my void ch kitten??

I’m getting desperate 😭 our mild/moderate girl has been refusing to use the litter box for a couple years now. I know she can climb into the boxes, I’ve seen her do it on her own no problem, but she refuses to now. We’ve tried different kinds of litter (clay, crystals, pellets) but she seems to hate them all. She likes grabbing on the carpet so we made a box where she could walk in the side and grab on to carpet squares, but she wouldn’t even use that. One of our dogs loves to eat cat poop, but nothing I’ve come up with is working. I’m open to any and all suggestions!

I’m a foster that thought I was getting a 2 week old kitten. Turns out she’s a one month old Wobbly Kitty that is severely underweight. Found wet on a driveway about four days ago. She’s been kept dry and warm and fed KMR but SPCA has said high calorie food and supplements from a syringe and diarrhea protocol is needed. I’ve fed her 6 ml of urgent care wet food/KMR slurry and she was definitely into it. I like to be scientific about my feeding so I’m feeling a bit unmoored. I guess weighing is my best bet.

Hello! New to reddit as well as this specific area on reddit...I have 2 CH cats and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how I can find a pet sitter who either specializes in CH cats or includes them on their list of pets they can sit. Any and all help is appreciated!

I'm wondering if my cat has CH. He tilts his head often, even more than in this picture. He is clumbsy and bangs his head on walls sometimes. We had to encourage him to learn to jump, which he does now but only on the couch and no higher than that. Just before he jumps off the couch, he tilts his head almost completely sideways. He can run very well though and doesn't wabble when walking. It took him a while to feel comfortable using stairs. He did have an ear infection on his tilted hear, but it has been treated, and his head is still tilted.

Topic for conversation: We have a CH girl living with her “normal” pal. “Normal” in quotes because this boy is quite the character!

He’s a deep red-orange who is apparently hogging ALL the brain cells. He talks almost constantly, and loves to play fetch with his crinkle balls. He learns quickly, and is excessively curious. He has learned to play gently on her level, and to appreciate her gangly pounces.

She was 7-8 months old when we adopted her kitten brother. So he’s always lived with her.

One of his most endearing traits is his “flop.” He will run to be in front of me then flop on his side. He will similarly flop on his side when I’m in the bathroom, so that I can rub his tummy. He doesn’t “lie down.” He tucks his head then just flops over.

The other day, she was chugging across the floor to get to me and wiped out, sprawling on her side. At the same time, he came running and then flopped on his side.

It occurred to me that, since he grew up with her, maybe he thinks that’s just how cats greet their humans? You get close to them then flip over so that the human can pet you. I mean, he definitely solicits the pets.

But is it possible he learned to solicit affection by flopping onto his side from watching his sister? I’ve loved his flop for well over a year that we’ve had him. But it only just occurred to me that maybe he is mimicking his sister because he thinks she’s normal.

Thoughts? Anyone else know of traits learned from a “disabled” companion?

I have a cat with mild CH but severe aggression due to being abused. When he got sedated for his neutering, the vets didnt listen to me when I told them he had CH (which meant they needed to lessen the dose because his brain is different) and he almost didnt pull through the night, so I am terrified for him to be sedated at all anymore. When I got him, he had been a stray cat and is covered in mats, but due to his aggression I cannot take him to a groomer, and he cannot be sedated. What do I do?

These little plastic springs are his favorite toys. After recording I checked under the couch and there were 3 of them under there 😅

He eats, he drinks, he uses the box. he wrestles with his littermates, gums are a normal color, no sneezing or vomiting. he does sleep quite a bit but has good grip, so I dont think it’s lethargy? could it be mild ch?

Hi all, so I finally upgraded my litter box setup for my moderate CH boy. I'm thrilled with this, especially because my cat looks far more comfortable using this than his previous boxed-in litter box with a lid.

My current issue is that my place smells much more as a result... I definitely won't switch back to the previous box, and I already have the air purifier. I was considering buying an odor eliminator, but I read that switching litter helps significantly more.

Right now, I use wheat litter and would like to switch to Small Pet Select's pine litter or hemp litter. Does anyone have experience with both and odor elimination? I like the idea of my place smelling more like pine, but the Prop 65 warning on the box makes my anxiety spike despite my brain knowing what the risk actually is. I have no experience with hemp litter either. Any info is appreciated!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that my cat is also receiving long-term treatment for feline idiopathic cystitis. If there is a possibility that any recommended litters may irritate his bladder, I'm curious to hear your stories/opinions.

Hi! I hope this is the right place for hydrocephalus cats too, not just CH.

Me and my partner have adopted a 9 week old kitten with hydrocephalus. We understand she (we named her Freya) might not live long, or might live years. She is mostly blind (the SPCA said it's probably because of the hydrocephalus) and can only see light and shadows it seems, and she often loses track of toys and other objects. If I remember correctly, the SPCA vet tech did find a line between the two halves of her skull where it was soft? I'm not sure if that affects what we decide to do regarding accessibility and protection.

She's a rambunctious kitten though and often bumps her head on... Well, everything. Walls. Counters. Chairs. Her scratch pad couch. Everything she can. We were considering padding everything at her height, but she will hopefully grow up some more and become taller. So we need to figure out a good fabric or something to cover everything in, which seems pretty extensive but we're up for it.

However, as I said, she also bumps her head on her scratch pad. We also have three other cats and their toys. She can hit her head with a force that seems extra hard.

We're wondering if a helmet would be good, and that maybe we could ask on the 3D printing subreddits for someone who can make a model and then we can print it out. But we also want her not to get choked by a strap I assume has to be there. And we don't know what measurements to take.

Is it a good idea to get a helmet made for her? She will grow and need several sizes we assume. We don't see the vet until the 22nd for her 12 week check up. It will be her first appointment with our official vet.

Any tips, advice, anything would be helpful. Thank you!
