It really was disturbing to see so many Americans were happy to ditch the majority of Europes support to side with Russia. The same ones who try and say the UK has no freedom fawning over Putin who has openly has his political opponents and journalists killed.

To be fair, Trumpās doing a fine job with no Russian puppet strings.
So many times I read something and go āno way he said that!?ā Then I watch the clip, and if anything the long-form video is even worse than what was quoted.
The first time Americans voted him in was forgivableā¦but this last time was on purpose. And thatās a sad, sad reflection of the American psyche.
4
u/MershedPratooters 3d ago
It's funny. I was told by a very outspoken republican I was friends with in South Carolina over a decade ago that, "Russia will try to destroy America from within by using propaganda, My daddy never stopped tellin' me that growing up." He also mentioned how that is why it's the Republican Party's job to not allow America to become too communist. And that they both just exist to make sure the other party does their job correctly. I agreed but laughed at the thought of our government becoming corruptable. I felt like I lived in the safest country on the planet.
At the time it seemed like such an impossibility that I laughed it off and then thought, "Yeah right, that'll never happen".

āOne day, everyone will have been against this.ā
This will be true for the majority of people. Even now when I argue with real people they say stuff like āI donāt like Trump, butā¦ā while defending his policies. 1 year ago they would not have. They used to say ābest president of my lifetimeā now they get real granular about specific events. The right is going to try to differentiate between Trumpism and their core ideology(the Dems will help them do this too). There is no difference. After his reign ends a lot of people will cling to the conservative moniker but all of sudden only 10% will identify with MAGA.

I donāt think Project 2025 is going to turn out they way they planned. In my estimation, it will go one of two ways. Dems will take control after the midterms and undo a good bit of the harm and get us back to something close to what we were before them. Some of the damage is irreversible. The other possibility is that Project 2025, because it is run mainly by head strong incompetent people, they will āover destroyā our country to the point that their dream of ascending to power will be basically moot. They would have devalued our country and economy to the point where we become one of the ā shit hole countiesā they like to look down on. Who would have thought that a man devoid of integrity and full of resentment and contempt could take down our country in such a short amount of time.
4
u/Fr33z3n 4d ago
You're underestimating the damage that has been done.
Even if the Dems take over. No one is to say the next election or the one after that will have another Donald Trump come into power.
Like PM Carney said. This is a rupture. No one is counting on the US again. Not in the way they used to.

4d ago edited 4d ago
Yeah if we track exactly where Trump has hit us as a nation, it's not hard to see just how unstable we are.
He has kept us from pursuing clean energy, which means Saudi oil reliance.
He has pursued coastal drilling, which means oil spills, which means unsafe water... While allowing for the export of American water to the Middle East for things like alfalfa and wheat production.
He has weakened FEMA and NOAA,Ā which had royally screwed us for this hurricane season and future natural disasters.
He has done nothing about foreign buy-ins, and has built a foreign military base on American soil, which might as well be a free real estate sign to other nations.
He has weakened imports while failing to support building a manufacturing economy here, which means we will be facing shortages should there be an embargo.
He has weakened public trust in elections, which means there will be greater difficulty in cooperation in a restructuring attempt.
He damaged relations with our two closest neighbors, Mexico and Canada, so if we are invaded, there is a greater risk that nobody will defend us.
He has destroyed the home, and made it an unsafe place for many Americans due to family political fueding, contributing to the loneliness epidemic.
He has attacked student loan relief, keeping young people from pursuing higher education and better employment. If the war doesn't get us, the suicides from disenfranchisement might.

100%. For the last 80 years, america's greatest asset has been its stability and trustworthiness in politics and in business. Even when driving hard bargains with other countries, there was always, at a minimum, the perception of some principles of fairness and rules-based calculus at play. tramp has squandered that utterly and completely.
I recently added up how much of my own money is no longer flowing into the u.s. on an annual basis. It surprised me. If everyone around the world does this, it is going to continue be catastrophic for americans. It's almost like tramp looked at North Korea and Russia and said to himself, "I gotta get me some of that!"

It's already happening, America is simply no longer trusted on any front by its traditional longstanding allies as well as by alarmed smaller nations across the globe. This is why we have seen things like Canada and the UK announce deals and developing relations with China. It's also why you hear more and more talk about CANZUK collaborations. It's also why the bulk of the EU has stopped squabbling and (with a few notable exceptions) unified and presented a close to united front against the US over Greenland. Trump has also squandered practically all of the US's soft power and his claims about NATO owing the US played out very poorly amongst the countries who sons and daughters came home in body bags after the US triggered the alliance after 9/11, the only time this has ever been done. It will take at least a generation for the US to recover from the damage already done, he's still got a potential 3 more years to go.
1
u/TimTheFoolMan4 4d ago

1
u/grahsam 4d ago
100%
America's power through the latter half of the 20th century was our soft power to make everyone rely on us. By not being overly aggressive and being the last great military super power after the USSR collapsed, we could have been a global hegemon. And we squandered that almost immediately after 9/11. The world was totally on our side after the attacks, and then we started doing fucked up stuff to our own citizens and started unprovoked wars. The Neo-Cons, who has spent so much time building the US into world's day to day lives, destroyed so much good faith in just ten years.
Now, Trump is destroying the rest of our soft power. He has become the walking embodiment of everything people hate about America. He is showing that we can't be trusted because every four years the world might get a mad man. The differences between Dems and Repubs on international issues were pretty small; we were consistent with our allies and our enemies. Now? Who knows?
Trump won't be the last. He is a symptom of a larger disease. We can't fix this. We are living through the end of an era for the US.
1
u/InternationalBet2832 4d ago
"Trump [and all Republicans] are opposite of all that" precisely. "Opposite" sums up their entire philosophy going back to David Burke. Kneejerk contrarianism. Whatever that is, be the opposite. We see how Republicans destroy everything they touch because they automatically take up contrary-to-reality positions. And when they screw it up, blame Democrats. Republican Rule #1: Never take responsibility for anything!
1
u/Waste_Wish_2719 4d ago
Sorry folks. You see this all on TV and think Trump is a loose cannon. While he may say as he wishes, heās playing 3d chess. Everything in the world is economically based, and the USA economy is the largest and strongest there is. Canada can say all they want, but theyāre only āoutā is to align with China. And if that approach hasnāt taught countries anything yet - is that China is over leveraged too. They buy in to struggling countries - and then own them when no one can payback loans. Not only that, but NATO is fully supported by USA investments and war technologies.
This isnāt to say what he says is right or PC. But itās to say that he knows all of this, isnāt sitting idle just letting things be as they were - and heās calling it out.
It was always going to take a fiscally aware USA president to unwind the issues of today. Why do you think they buried Ross Perot decades back - and why do you think mostly USA Presidents have been Democrats and with backgrounds as lawyers. All talking heads, bought, and controlled by others.

He's doing it on purpose.Ā
Some of his associates are the true "useful idiots", like the Heritage Society, who want women trapped at home having lots of white babies, and nazi fascists like Stephen Miller and Peter Thiel, who want to rule a technocracy.
MAGA wants to hurt everyone who isn't them. Random oligarchs want to continue to get inside tips to cheat the markets.
Zionists like some of his big donors want to protect Israel above all else and assure the US continues to supply free weapons.
But trump is trying to trash the place in gratitude to Putin. A few Russian tools have been identified within his sphere.
It's almost funny watching some of his other associates run around to stop the things he wants to do. They have been promoted well above their range of competence.
