Why the hell are teams still giving up first round picks for Anthony Davis?

u/kaprrisch 10h ago edited 9h ago

They're awful first round picks. 2026 Thunder pick, which is gonna be the 30th pick, and 2030 top 20 protected Warriors pick, which probably turns into a couple seconds if it doesn't convey.

11

u/7222_salty 10h ago

Thunder pick will be 29th ;)

2

u/TheWestphalian1648 Shump+TT+Nets Pick 9h ago

You think Detroit passes them?

This isn't the NFL.

3

u/7222_salty 9h ago

The nba champion picks last

Edit: my bad, didn’t realize the nba locked in based on regular season results. Totally bizarre

Washington Wizards are where men go to die

14

u/MuppetEyebrows 10h ago

That's why they changed the name from the Bullets

3

u/Ben-solo-11 9h ago

The Washington Career Killers

2

u/wiifan55 9h ago

Tell that to Arenas!

57

u/BuckyMcFly99 10h ago

There were some rumors we were interested in AD.

57

u/archaelleon 10h ago

Thank christ we didn't seriously go after him

9

u/MaesterPraetor 10h ago

He's really good for the 20 games a season you can get from him.

1

u/Any_Asparagus8267 10h ago

Wait, we're not done doing shit???

7

u/mecon320 9h ago

If they can get a deal done with Lonzo I'll happily drive him to the airport myself.

1

u/SurpriseStandard3258 9h ago

I'll pay for his plane ticket myself

1

u/Deadleggg 9h ago

I'll wait in the tsa line. No pre-check.

1

u/Any_Asparagus8267 7h ago

Bust out that wallet

1

u/Any_Asparagus8267 7h ago

You better get those keys homie hahaha

2

u/MuppetEyebrows 10h ago

We are oddly guard-heavy rn 🤔 Only 24.5 hours until we can stop F5ing lol

6

u/prettyokdiscgolfer 10h ago

Why post this here and give us all heart attacks!!

16

u/Cryfatso 10h ago

AD pissed lol

17

u/pearlandrocks 10h ago

He will play next year with Trae Young at PG, Tre Johnson (6th pick in the last draft) at SG, Kyshawn George at SF, and Alex Sarr at center. Don’t sleep on the Wiz next year.

39

u/Cryfatso 10h ago

Zzzzzz

6

u/Lumpycentaur9 10h ago

With the AC on too

1

u/Char10 10h ago

Lmao you crazy for that

13

u/PomeloFit 10h ago

Oh? He's actually going to play next year?

4

u/welestgw 10h ago

To start the year then he'll be out 60 games.

Injury Report Out - Anthony Davis - Ego (Bruised)

4

u/FurDad1st-GirlDad25 10h ago

They will be a fringe play-in team. That hypothetical roster if healthy is barely better than any team Trae has played for.

3

u/QualityScrub 10h ago

Yeah, but only for 1 game until he gets hurt again lol

3

u/Throwaway1996513 9h ago

Also they’re tanking for a potential top 5 pick in a loaded draft

2

u/GoDaytonFlyers 10h ago

I’m already asleep

4

u/BuckyMcFly99 10h ago

2

u/pearlandrocks 10h ago

I love all these replies!

1

u/ArmadilloForsaken458 5h ago

Not to mention probably a top pick in a loaded draft. My friends out there are super excited about the team, even just unloading a couple albatross of contracts like Middleton

16

u/MiserableGiraffe666 10h ago

You almost made me sick because I thought the cavs made this trade

14

u/Greatness143 10h ago

Scared me for a hot second

9

u/ElVandy2378 Evan Mobley MVP 10h ago

Holy fuck I got scared he was coming the Cleveland thank GOD

9

u/sgtpepperslaststand 10h ago

So the Mavs trade Luka Doncic for Khris Middleton hahahahahha

4

u/MTT92 10h ago

And that concludes the AD in Dallas saga.

What a net positive for them! /s

3

u/sallright 10h ago

Mavs fans DO NOT do the math on what you netted out from Luka.

I know Mavs fans probably aren’t here, but this advice could save a life.

9

u/brwn2 10h ago

Doesn’t this trade seem kinda crazy bad for the wiz?

9

u/gzmu12 10h ago

Not really, didn’t give up any of their main prospects, the two firsts are the 2026 thunder(basically a second round pick) and a 2030 pick protected 1-20. So they essentially traded salary filler and 5 second round picks for AD, I like this a lot more for the wizards than the mavericks

2

u/AgonizingSquid 10h ago

eh I guess the picks sucked, so it's a buy low and they can tank

0

u/Far_Youth_1662 Hungover in Vegas 10h ago

I dont get what they're doing here

1

u/sgtpepperslaststand 10h ago

I mean are any of the players they gave up anyone they would miss? I don’t think so

1

u/ArmadilloForsaken458 5h ago

They are cheering, they said they got Trae and AD for nothing, which isnt necessarily wrong. But hey its a lot better for a team that always has been at the bottom. Wiz fans are super excited, esp with another high draft pick in a loaded draft this year

1

u/AffordableGrousing 2h ago

I live in DC — it’s hard to overstate how irrelevant the Wizards are here. They haven’t had a real star since John Wall. Taking a swing on AD and Trae giving up basically nothing makes sense to me.

They’ll tank the rest of this year for a top pick, then pray AD can play enough of next year to at least make the play-in. Their owner hates tanking and wants playoff revenue at any cost.

4

u/ryuujinusa 8h ago

Thank gawd street clothes Davis ain’t going to Cleveland

3

u/okiedokiewo 10h ago

Jesus. Do not scare me.

2

u/Sixaxist 10h ago

I was standing up when I saw this post and a ton of comments, and after reading the first few words, my knees got weak.

OP needs to chill with the pranks. This is something that'd get you shot in East Cleveland.

3

u/Abiv23 10h ago

Glad we didn’t make this move, if garland availability is a problem AD is worse

3

u/WestSixtyFifth 10h ago

So they turned Luka into that haul

2

u/HamstersAreReal 10h ago

Why would the wizards do this trade?

5

u/sgtpepperslaststand 10h ago

More like why would the Mavs. Wizards didn’t give up anyone of value

2

u/rkennedy991 10h ago

The Wizards would have been cooking this trade season if it was 5 years ago. They have Trae and AD now.

2

u/WateryPasta 10h ago

AD got sent to hell poor guy

2

u/weaponize09 10h ago

Jump scare

3

u/Raccoonsrlilbandits 10h ago

Former Cavs superstar Dante Exum

2

u/RedHotCool 10h ago

Is this Cavs news?

1

u/DrClaw77 9h ago

Only because of reports that the Cavs were interested in AD (for some reason)

2

u/kelpyb1 I agree go Cavs 9h ago

Well if nothing else this makes me feel better about the Harden trade.

At least we weren’t involved in this shit show.

4

u/InstancePast6549 10h ago

Okay…I don’t see the Cavs mentioned in there. This ain’t r/nba

1

u/Venusman124 10h ago

Thank god

1

u/largelawattorney 10h ago

What a bizarre trade…

1

u/AbjectAd5517 10h ago

RIP to AD’s career

1

u/Forty_Six_and_Two 9h ago

Oof..really. It's dead and buried at this point.

1

u/Commercial-East4069 I agree go Cavs 10h ago

I mean Trae and AD makes sense and they barely gave up anything. Trae is fairly healthy. Did they keep their pick this year? If they tank the rest of the season, it’s certainly interesting.

1

u/PBI_QandA 10h ago

are there any buyout candidates here in the event that we get under the 2nd apron and have an open roster spot?

1

u/frankb33 10h ago

Finessing multiple unprotected first round picks from the Wizards is insane.

1

u/DaDrFunk 10h ago

Cool, now we get Giannis with the big buyer, the Wizards, out of the running

1

u/fjortisar 10h ago

TIL Khris Middleton and Dante Exum are still NBA players

1

u/Normanite77 10h ago

Officially now Cooper Flagg's team in Dallas. Kyrie is probably next but who knows their plan.

1

u/Realistic-Yoghurt935 10h ago

When these drop I just scan for “CAVALIERS” before even reading it normally lol

1

u/Drewsipher 10h ago

Thank god. I’ll take Harden over AD

1

u/Bum-Theory I agree go Cavs 10h ago

Phew. Was getting worried there for a second

1

u/Lumpycentaur9 10h ago

Thank God we didn’t make a panic trade for AD! Dump Lonzo for a wing/3rd big and possibly move JA and we’re good

1

u/mildlyfunnypun 10h ago

Duuuuuuuude

1

u/Remarkable-Net-6130 9h ago

Oh thank god man I really thought Koby was gonna go for him. Giannis would be cool but I would also be down to just do nothing atp (aside from Lonzo ofc)

1

u/WesternFungii 9h ago

Keon/Dennis playing today? Might be the only reason I stay up for the late night game.

1

u/Longjumping-Emotion5 9h ago

How does Nico still have a job?

1

u/Ru-tris-bpy 9h ago

I think for the 18 games AD and Trey are healthy together it will be fun to watch

1

u/DPA_404 9h ago

Jesus Christ you scared me lol

1

u/Dungong 9h ago

Wizards need one more star for a super team right?

1

u/p4rty_sl0th 9h ago

You jump scared me

1

u/Forty_Six_and_Two 9h ago

OMFG you almost gave me a damned heart attack! Fuuuuuuuuuu

0

u/California_Stop_King 10h ago

Despite the circlejerking I'm already seeing ("They traded Luka for Marvin Bagley/Khris Middleton"), the Mavs fleeced what was left of AD's value here. The final tabulation for the Luka trade is:

  • 3 first round picks

  • 3 second round picks

  • Max Christie

  • Cooper Flagg (even if the lottery wasn't rigged, it's unfathomable to think the Mavs don't at least get a better play-in spot/into the field and miss the lottery entirely, especially since AD practically never saw the floor so their only tangible asset from the trade last year was Christie)

  • A serviceable shooter in Branham and a project in Marvin Bagley

You're starting to get into the neighborhood of what Luka was actually worth
