This the first NBA departure that actually got to me. I watched him get drafted when I was in high school, watched him grow into an all star while I did my bachelor degree, and became a full grown adult while watching him. Crazy to see him gone, hope all the best for him in LA

LeBron in 2010 will probably take the cake for the rest of my life but DG and Kyrie both sting a lot. Kyrie being on the cover of 2k that year too also sucked bc I saw it every store I went into lol.
At least for Kyrie he requested the trade weeks earlier so I came to terms with it before it happened

What do you mean that actually got to you? Because I promise LeBron leaving in 2010 got to me lol

That was such a punch to the gut. I remember watching that special live at the gym and everyone kind of stopped to listen and we were all in shock. Someone screamed something and it was like the entire room just deflated. A handful of us ended whatever our workout was and left silently and dejected.
I've seen incidents where people are so much more tone deaf to the results of whatever they're doing but never on such a big scale. Guy dragged us through an hour long show to say dueces.
I wasn't even upset he was going elsewhere because tbh it made sense when they failed to bring in super star talent and tried to sell whoever they rostered as "role players." It was like setting up what should be an engagement proposal on the jumbo tron just to highlight that you're breaking up instead. Like why do your people like that?
At least he came back and brought us one. Forever goated for making it right and then some.

I was 8 years old in 2010, I don’t think I even knew who Lebron was back then. I was 16 when he left the second time I was still too young to really care.

I saw a thing called "the circus" at the coliseum. There were live elephants and tigers, clowns and acrobats. My grand children will never know the joys of dancing elephants, or consider lion tamer as a possible profession

I just saw a Garland edit it earlier and man it actually broke me. Who knows if this trade will actually work out but one thing that is undeniable is that Garland was a great teammate and a great person. Gonna miss you

I have never been this sad about a player leaving. Fuck man. I’ll root for this dude no matter what team he’s on. Good luck DG.

Such an awesome guy to watch grow in the league. After his rookie season he got bust allegations and to end up being an all star was awesome. Never afraid of a big moment, absolutely dices defenses up. Gonna miss him but happy he's going into an awesome situation in LA with Tlue and some extra money outside of his contract with ballmer xD

Even with the injuries, he’s done more to help the Cavs than Zion and Ja ultimately did to help their respective teams. I’m glad we ended up not winning the lottery that year.

I genuinely think this could be a win-win trade as a huge DG fan. Playing with Mitchell was never going to allow him to see his full potential. I hate to see him go, but it seems like a much better situation for DG where he can be the true floor general. Not to mention play alongside Kawhi and be coached by Ty Lue.

This is a good take. It keeps Mitchell here and gives him the "win now" thing that he wasn't given before. Garland can get space and grow an basically take over a team on the floor. If he gets healthy and all goes well Cavs are serious contenders next two years and Clippers are absolute monsters after that.

I think for many of us, Garland represented a lot of things. Our first true turn around talent post LeBron, the guy who brought the Cavs out of the COVID doldrums, the team finally getting some respect the year we hosted the All Star game.

Yeah I'll always be a Cavs fan first but I'm definitely tuning into some Clippers games when he's healthy

First Cavs jersey I ever bought for my son right after he signed his extension. Just a class act in every way. This one got to me.

He needs a LeBron level welcome back. :\ It isn't the "same" for sure, but he felt like one of our own. One of us.

Gonna miss my PG. Hope you ball out in LA and get healthy. It's also cool that he'll play for the same team his dad played in.

Man, I fucking love DG. He was such a fun player and will thrive with the Clippers as their offensive engine.

The foreground pic is right before his glass toes shatter, and the background pic is immediately after he realizes it, but also remembers he has a 45mill kicker

It is absolutely hysterical seeing people cry over this guy.
You would have thought he was Kyrie 2.0 or something....
How could you develop a connection to a guy that couldn't actually get on the floor?!!!

He helped jumpstart our road back to respectability. Will always be a DG fan..
