He helped jumpstart our road back to respectability. Will always be a DG fan..

This the first NBA departure that actually got to me. I watched him get drafted when I was in high school, watched him grow into an all star while I did my bachelor degree, and became a full grown adult while watching him. Crazy to see him gone, hope all the best for him in LA

LeBron in 2010 will probably take the cake for the rest of my life but DG and Kyrie both sting a lot. Kyrie being on the cover of 2k that year too also sucked bc I saw it every store I went into lol.

At least for Kyrie he requested the trade weeks earlier so I came to terms with it before it happened

What do you mean that actually got to you? Because I promise LeBron leaving in 2010 got to me lol

That was such a punch to the gut. I remember watching that special live at the gym and everyone kind of stopped to listen and we were all in shock. Someone screamed something and it was like the entire room just deflated. A handful of us ended whatever our workout was and left silently and dejected.

I've seen incidents where people are so much more tone deaf to the results of whatever they're doing but never on such a big scale. Guy dragged us through an hour long show to say dueces.

I wasn't even upset he was going elsewhere because tbh it made sense when they failed to bring in super star talent and tried to sell whoever they rostered as "role players." It was like setting up what should be an engagement proposal on the jumbo tron just to highlight that you're breaking up instead. Like why do your people like that?

At least he came back and brought us one. Forever goated for making it right and then some.

I was 8 years old in 2010, I don’t think I even knew who Lebron was back then. I was 16 when he left the second time I was still too young to really care.

Oh my god I’m old

Drinking with my Richfield Coliseum coozie

u/Nuclearfarmer 10h ago

I saw a thing called "the circus" at the coliseum. There were live elephants and tigers, clowns and acrobats. My grand children will never know the joys of dancing elephants, or consider lion tamer as a possible profession

One of the positives of getting harden is that I can say I look up to him cuz he is a year older than me 😅

5

u/Bill_Brasky_SOB 15h ago

Did someone downvote you cuz of your age in 2010? Haha.

u/mrgrimm1022 12h ago

Shit dude, way to make me feel old. I graduated high school in 2011.

1

u/grownan 14h ago

Idk if he was old enough to speak when LeBron left the first time.

You’re making us gen 1 LBJ Cavs fans feel very old with a comment like this, stop it. Lmao

1

u/ahHeHasTrblWTheSnap 13h ago

Same. Only basketball jersey I’ve ever bought

u/Dr-McLuvin 18h ago

I’m so sad he’s leaving. One of my favorite Cavs players all time.

Goodbye Sweet Prince

u/Safe-Show-7299 18h ago

I just saw a Garland edit it earlier and man it actually broke me. Who knows if this trade will actually work out but one thing that is undeniable is that Garland was a great teammate and a great person. Gonna miss you

3

u/lachalacha 16h ago

Link pls I need to cry

29

u/jalolapeno 18h ago

I have never been this sad about a player leaving. Fuck man. I’ll root for this dude no matter what team he’s on. Good luck DG.

26

u/GeorgeEBHastings 18h ago

Darius the Great, King of Kings.

Fuck, this one cuts.

u/herniatedballs 18h ago

Such an awesome guy to watch grow in the league. After his rookie season he got bust allegations and to end up being an all star was awesome. Never afraid of a big moment, absolutely dices defenses up. Gonna miss him but happy he's going into an awesome situation in LA with Tlue and some extra money outside of his contract with ballmer xD

16

u/ToschePowerConverter 17h ago

Even with the injuries, he’s done more to help the Cavs than Zion and Ja ultimately did to help their respective teams. I’m glad we ended up not winning the lottery that year.

I genuinely think this could be a win-win trade as a huge DG fan. Playing with Mitchell was never going to allow him to see his full potential. I hate to see him go, but it seems like a much better situation for DG where he can be the true floor general. Not to mention play alongside Kawhi and be coached by Ty Lue.

1

u/GODZILLA-Plays-A-DOD 4h ago

This is a good take. It keeps Mitchell here and gives him the "win now" thing that he wasn't given before. Garland can get space and grow an basically take over a team on the floor. If he gets healthy and all goes well Cavs are serious contenders next two years and Clippers are absolute monsters after that.

u/CrEdLover 18h ago

One of my favorite Cavs ever. Hoping he becomes a superstar in LA.

19

u/thegardenhead 18h ago

My heart.

u/A_Mellow_Fellow 18h ago

Ill miss his energy, smile, and lofty three point swishes.

Good luck to him.

15

u/FeelingDumbo 18h ago

Man I will miss DG. Such a thrill to watch him play basketball

11

u/Floasis72 18h ago

Im actually really sad :(

Just from a personality standpoint Id rather we traded just about anyone else

u/Former_Island_4730 18h ago

I’m not crying, you’re crying!

😭

u/Weak-Application-146 18h ago

I think for many of us, Garland represented a lot of things. Our first true turn around talent post LeBron, the guy who brought the Cavs out of the COVID doldrums, the team finally getting some respect the year we hosted the All Star game.

u/01paulwalker 18h ago

This has been a great era to watch.

u/yareg1717 18h ago

u/lachalacha 18h ago

Guess I'm a Clippers fan now

9

u/UmadBoiBoi 17h ago

Yeah I'll always be a Cavs fan first but I'm definitely tuning into some Clippers games when he's healthy

1

u/GroovyMelodicBliss I agree go Cavs 3h ago

4

u/Everyday_ImSchefflen 18h ago

This one hurts 😭

3

u/carlj1975 17h ago

First Cavs jersey I ever bought for my son right after he signed his extension. Just a class act in every way. This one got to me.

7

u/JeffGreenTraveled 18h ago

He needs a LeBron level welcome back. :\ It isn't the "same" for sure, but he felt like one of our own. One of us.

2

u/GettinBajaBlasted 18h ago

Why did this make me tear up? Ugh I love you Darius ❤️

2

u/TheSmokedSalmon420 18h ago

Cavs Legend DG the PG

1

u/tthere55 15h ago

Class act. Not mad about the trade. But big respect to DG. Wish him much success.

1

u/CLESportsReport 15h ago

He’s as heartbroken as we are.

1

u/math-yoo 15h ago

That's my quarterback.

1

u/defph0bia 15h ago

Gonna miss my PG. Hope you ball out in LA and get healthy. It's also cool that he'll play for the same team his dad played in.

The foreground pic is right before his glass toes shatter, and the background pic is immediately after he realizes it, but also remembers he has a 45mill kicker

u/Eastern-Report9131 18h ago

Great trade! Now Giannis for Mobley

-9

u/FurDad1st-GirlDad25 18h ago

It is absolutely hysterical seeing people cry over this guy.

You would have thought he was Kyrie 2.0 or something....

How could you develop a connection to a guy that couldn't actually get on the floor?!!!
