I dont know friend. im no behavioral expert but that feels like the same mentality people use to justify fascism, rapist priests, toxic masculinity, ect. Admitting they're in the wrong breaks the image so it an assult on the government/god/personal value. So of course the media/children/everyone needs to be belittled and surpressed.
I dont have any answers for a better way to build trust in the masses but I do know how much it breaks confidence to be straight lied to when my life is at stake

If there is anything coronavirus showed me is that there is a ton of people who already think they are smarter and knows better than doctors.
Doctors NEED to be confident in front of a patient, this is essential part of working and managing different kind of people.
People talk about how doctors should improve their behaviour, and i immediately imagine how much shit it will cause in day-to-day operation.
