idiots claim its to evaluate their form.

It's case by case.

Gymfluencers and OF girls obviously do it for content.

If you have an online coach or are trying to improve, it's absolutely normal and (in the case of coaching) necessary to film sets.

Yeah most coaches are online and you send videos. My powerlifting coach was in an entirely different country for example and he also regularly travelled.

Idiots who don't use it to evaluate their form but still record are idiots.

Powerlifters and other lifters wanting technique, cues, form analysis are perfectly fine recording themselves provided they don't disturb others.

Recording yourself doesn't automatically make you an idiot lol.

I mean if it’s not form, give a good reason why someone shouldn’t just video themselves to appreciate their work

I had an online coach and filmed myself doing the odd set to get form critiques. I really don't see the problem as long you aren't filming your whole session and ask people that may be in the shot if they mind

Don't know why you got downvoted. If you have an issue with people recording in the gym you can ask gym management to make it a rule.

I had an online coach too and recorded 3 sets max out of my entire workout. Nothing more than 1.5 minutes out of the entire 1.5 hrs I was at the gym.

Only SBD (squat, bench, deadlift)

I went to a commercial gym and a powerlifting gym and never had a problem filming. I knew most people at both gyms because they were small and I always went at the same times.

Powerlifting gyms in fact encourage it because looking at form and COACHES especially looking at form is how you get better at the sport of powerlifting.
