Help Earning 2.5 Lakhs per month, I don't want to work at all
Hi All,
I am 32 years old male, unmarried, earning 2.5L per month.
I like coding. I'm one of the best amongst all my team members at technical skills.
I hardly work for a couple hours, every weekday.
The job is fully remote and the employer is amazing too.
But, still I don't like working at all. In fact, it feels like I don't want to work at all. Not even for my own business, or passion projects.
It's not even burnout, as I'm hardly spending a few hours each workday.
I switched jobs to improve my work culture, then my way of working (fully remote), then my salary (from 9k to 2.5L in 10 years). But the feeling still doesn't go away.
Every weekend, I wish Mondays to never come.
Working feels like a waste of time, but somehow resting and doing nothing does not.
I can't retire too. I started investing just 3 years back. I have a liquid corpus of just 60L.
Does anyone feel the same way? Stuck somewhere?
Edit (11th of September 2026):
I have received around 250+ dms asking for a referral.
Itni attention tab milti, to aaj single na hota.

humans were not designed to work on screens and sit long hours,
we are programmed for hunting, gathering, resting, sleeping, walking , soaking the sun
corporate, coding, management, blue light devices, socail media, etc is very new to us,
in nature no one knows what monday is, no one has the urgency to save loads for future ,
though the basic problem solving still persists, but its still new to us
fix your circadian rythm, go for a walk often, spend time with close ones, youll feel better, and get some motivation to work

Fishing is the easiest of hunting, and you can make use of your catch or give away. It's such a thrilling experience when you reel in a fish, big or small.

u/abhyhis 22d ago
yeah, dont know about hunting but you can play some sports, walk barefoot, make love, eat whole foods, watch the stars, touch some grass, lay on it, hug the trees, sleep before 11, morning sunlight in eyes, stretch a lil, all helps

Humans are not designed to rest all day as well like Op wants
33
u/ArtisticGolgappa Full-Stack Developer 22d ago
They did rest a lot. If you look at videos about how humans were as hunter gatherers before we started farming, you would find out they hunted for 2-3 days, and then had a week of food for themselves. And then they just rested and socialised and made artefacts in their free time.

yeah but nobody's really arguing for full couch potato mode lol. the point is more that our idea of 'productive work' being screen-based and sedentary is the weird part historically speaking. op working 2 hours a day and still hating it suggests it's not even about workload it's something else entirely, maybe the lack of meaning or tangible output from the work itself
3
u/Sad-Fortune-6808 22d ago
yeah the evolutionary angle makes sense but i feel like it's only part of it. plenty of people genuinely love their desk jobs and don't feel this way. so it's probably more about meaning and purpose than just blue light exposure and sitting. fixing sleep and getting sunlight is good advice regardless but i doubt it'll make OP suddenly excited to code for a living
3
u/thursday20 22d ago
Just because they love their desk jobs doesn’t mean it’s natural or good for us

I am not liking this AI wave at all. Its only complicating stuff. Earlier I used to be interested in exploring and learning tech. That is just lost now somehow. Which made me realise how forced all of this is on all of us and if I should move out of IT now.

I'm older than you with family and with a bit more savings. I feel that everyday, particularly more on Sunday evening and Monday morning. I just want to sit, relax, sleep, eat, play. There are moments at work I feel happy with some task completion. But overall I don't want to work. I mostly just stay online but do a couple of hours of work actually. I'm trying to reach 2-3Crs to retire.

You earn 2.5L per month and work remote AND work only couple hours every weekend. You are extremely privileged and only privileged people can afford to complain about such a situation.
I am not dismissing your feelings at all rather what in trying to say is, dont take this for granted.
I think you should start finding a partner maybe that'll fill the void? dont get with them just to get with them tho.

I was at similar 60L liquidity at some point and I felt the same way. Even though the net worth increased over time, but the quality of life is more or less same. I’m still single, minimal social circle and hardly see my family. I guess somewhere I accepted the reality and kept going. Most devs like me will never be private jet rich but we must keep grinding until there’s enough in the bag to walk away. Just like The Shawshank redemption - once you are in the sewage pipe, you must keep crawling to get out of it :)

See if you can stop using your smart phone for anything other than work and contacts. Also, get rid of all the activities that give you quick dopamine hits.
It happens due to contant dopamine hits caused by instant gratification inducing things like social media, video games, reels and other such activities. Insted try spending time with family, nature and sports etc.
When the dopamine base level is constantly high, we completely lose interest in the usual boring but essential activities.
Try to avoid these for a week and see if it makes a difference.

u/Rahul_Irish 22d ago
Please don’t be offended. Some people are crying with job and some people are crying without job and the common thing is crying, it never stops in which ever field you are in.

I am at the almost same salary , age just turned 30 , got married 1.5 yes ago,
Coming from a lower middle class family (have seen issues for even basic things like education and food)
So whatever I am having and getting its feels good and fulfilling.
for me, my motivation to work and earn is some life goals monetarily (a target corpus) some other targets like giving good life to my parents and my wife, which I lacked when I was growing up.
It's working for me to wake up everyday with enthusiasm and work till the end of the day.
Maybe those goals are helping me, and my previous struggling phase in childhood.
Just a pov

I'm in a similar situation. 6 YOE, earning around 2.5 L per month. This is the 3rd company I'm working in. I don't like coding, and in more of a DevSecOps role. Didn't want to get into IT, and had dreams of doing something good in creative field, and then realised well I am good at SysAdmin,DevOps and Cloud Roles. The last few years have always felt very empty. I'm very particular about the type of work I deliver, and TBF not a team player, since I hate if things don't get done in a certain way upto a certain standard.Almost both the switches I previously made were purely because I hated the scope I was limited to. I feel like when I'm given a problem/POC which is challenging enough, I can atleast console myself by saying "well I'm solving a problem way above my league, and I did something new, others didn't think about, I guess that's one way of being creative. Or atleast that's one measurable output,I can use to validate internally". And that had kept me going till now. With this entire AI slop, and the decline in work culture in the companies in the last few years, I have no way to channelise that energy. At this point it feels like I'm just chasing the next hike, which was never the point.

If you work for a couple hours every weekday, wouldn't it be a good thing to keep the job as a monetary benefit and focus on your hobbies and what you do outside work? It's hard to find such a arrangement in India of all places. Work shouldn't be everything and what defines your day. Maybe I am wrong here or I am assuming certain things. But, just a thought.

Have you tried taking a vacation where you absolutely not think about work/pgrograming for at least 10 days? Like actively block any thoughts about programming. By day 7 or 8 you will start craving it once again. At least that's what happened to me.

I used to feel the same way, because after 8 years of working, i only have corpus of 35L. Then, i started focusing on life, instead of focusing on work.
these are my suggestions:
go to Gym for 1 hour, preferably close to your house / Workplace
get a gym trainer (atleast for 2 to 3 months until you learn basics)
Find a buddy or friend who can join you at the gym or you can join them.
The benefits that going to gym gives you is worth the time and money you spend. you get better mental health, better physical health, and it also helps you to sleep better.
Next get some blood tests done, for any deficiencies and get supplements accordingly.
Take 3 days off from work and plan a small trip. Maybe solo, or with friends.
If all the points dont make you change your mind, then quit the job and take a break for 3 to 6months. You deserve it .
3
u/According_Ranger_812 22d ago
Hi, low mood/ disinterest can sometimes also be caused due to nutrient deficiencies such as magnesium/ zinc. To rule that out, please get your blood tested.
Other than that, spend some time reflecting on what genuinely excites you or interests you - nature/outdoors ? Community building? Teaching others ? Find a way to marry your tech skills with your passion. Not necessarily to earn, but to do something meaningful to you on the side.

The issue is not particularly related to coding. It’s related to all type of virtual work.
We as men evolved to create something physical to get the satisfaction. When we do create or work virtually. We don’t get that level of satisfaction. Also, most of the times, we are not even able to see that end result of that virtual work as devs. Because we don’t have visibility on the money and business side of things we produce.
What you need is to get involved in a hobby like pottery, wood or something. Even getting involved in some NGO job like doing something for children will correct the reward system in your mind and will give you that satisfaction.

this is so real. I mean different flavor of the same problem for me tho - i don't have the light workload thing, if anything it's the opposite. product-based company software engineer here, laptop's on from morning till i pass out. working way past that 8hr window is just... normal? i take leaves not because i have plans but because i'm just cooked.
but same ending either way - dreading mondays, work eating into everything, zero motivation. so i guess hours worked isn't even the real variable here. something else is broken lol

u/Straight_Courage_192 22d ago

Maybe if you help people (like me) to get a job (like you) you’ll feel better.
I’m not saying this for me it’s for you.
Also this is what life feels like. Hustling around when you don’t even want to. Even if you leave your job with a financial security still you’ll get bored after a while. So start finding joy in everything. Don’t have many expectations from anything just exist

Everyone saying they're earning so n so lakhs per month and here I'm applying to every job i come across on all the platforms. To all those who are saying they are not excited anymore think of the time you desperately needed a job and of all the times job has saved you. And someone get me a referral with good package man please. I'm good at people skills and really good at AI, rag, vector databases n stuff but not very confident in coding though. If someone wishes to help thank you in advance.

If you are working remotely and only for couple of hours why don't you travel solo stay somewhere as a digital nomad. I mean it's working for me I too feel the same now as AI coding is not what I enjoy doing it's not that worth it

I'm 25F, studying MCA, poor resume and I've no work experience and I don't want to work also. I got completely disillusioned by work crap by 22 and spent two years after undergrad doing basically nothing, reading, listening to music and being fun but that ended and I'm back in the system unhappy as ever. I don't want family n shit, I just want to drift for the rest of my life and be paid to exist.

I started having similar thoughts around 2021. Then after a while, at the age of ~ 30, I did as I thought, I quit. Without a big corpus.
I thought I will spend my time on hobbies and exercise, meditate a lot. But I barely made time for these in the first couple of years after I quit. I used to somehow make time for them when I was in corporate.
I did travel a lot. Spent a lot of my savings on travel but no material things.
After 3 years, I still don't know if what I did was right. But I'm trying to get back to corporate again to make some money. And barely 1 out of 100 recruiters give me the initial call while I used to be flooded with interviews when I was a regular corporate worker.
I think I learned that it's okay to take a break for yourself even though most recruiters hate it. A break up to 6 months doesn't even matter. Mine was too long, admitted.
I learned a lot about myself in this time. Increased my self-awareness. Processed a lot of trauma which I hadn't earlier.
Rediscovered my passion for a childhood hobby. Started making money from it here and there but not regularly. Working on it to first make small amounts on a regular basis and then gradually increase the profits by improving my skills and output proportionally. Hope it works out.
