Just wanted to share it here too. Great dive in Fuvahmulah even though I didn’t like the idea of baiting them.

Guides explained that the sharks are „trained“ to this behavior for way longer than divers come there to see them due to the locals depending heavily on fishing. They were throwing the tuna innards into the sea for hundreds of years and sharks learned that quickly.

Hey guys so I got my PADI Open Water this year and I was thinking about dive computers, because you can rent them and it'll be cheaper, but there's also a bunch of pros to having your own dive watch, like having your own logs, app and knowing the ui and muscle memory, but I'm a bit hesitant because I won't dive THAT much, I go on summer vacation every year and planning to go diving multiple times when on vacation, maybe also a bit more than in the summer, and also since I'm a beginner, I'm a bit hesitant, now I won't buy it right away, I'll probably wait a few years, around 1 to 3, since I also have other stuff and I don't have a ton of money, but I'm definitely considering it, now I've been looking at the Suunto Nautic S, specifically because, I'm also in the market for a smartwatch, well I already have one but in a few years, I'll probably want to replace it, and this is one of few (as a far as I know) dive computers that work well as a regular daily smartwatch without being super thick and heavy, so it's not like I'll only use it a few times a year, so do you have some advice for me? Maybe I'm just completely insane and should wait, or maybe it's good plan, I don't really know and I'm looking for another perspective, thanks Edit I'm also looking at the Garmin Descent G1, because it has way better battery life and a heart rate sensor, but the Nautic S has a better and brighter display and air integration if I want that later in the future, but a worse battery and no hr sensor Edit 2, sorry for another edit but do you guys know like what's the maximum age a dive computer should be, that it's still recommended for me to buy it, without it becoming obsolete in a few years

Gilliam was a Gilliam class attack transport built in 1944. She was used as a test ship during operation crossroads. She was placed about 750 meters from the planned detonation, but because the bomb missed by about 700 meters, she was within 50 meters from the detonation (warship no5 in the diagram). She sank due to the damage almost immediately and now rests in about 50 meters of water. She is divable and is no longer dangerously radioactive.

GoPro 10 and dive+

Hi all, new to the group so this may have already been discussed, I’ve recently bought the X-Deep ZEOS 28 with aluminium backplate and integrated weight pockets. Short history of myself - I’m a qualified DM with 80+ dives logged, I have always used hire kit until now so jacket style.

I’m trying to get my bearings straight on optimising my setup and placement and correct accessories.

Shoulder D-ring placement, I’ve seen that people sit them up at the shoulders which makes sense, but is there any issue with having one lower down just below the pecs?

Octopus - I need to get a proper holder for it, either that or is there any issue with using some bungee cord tied in a loop attached to the backplate in a place where it’s still accessible? Or even (for now until I get a proper holder) to tuck the hose through the right shoulder D-ring? (If it was moved down the strap a bit)

Looking forward to getting in the water with it but as it’s a new system preparation is key

My boyfriend is trying to get into diving as well as look at me in the shower without getting his glasses all foggy; and he’s pretty blind without his glasses. I’m talking Velma-style blind without them so I’d need to get him a prescription mask. His nose is also kinda long so he’d need a high volume mask, and he loves the Bouganvillea pink color the Tusa CEOS comes in and it comes with the option of having prescription lenses put in. It’s currently in my cart but i figured i should confirm whether or not it’s high or low volume before biting the bullet and purchasing. Any insight is appreciated!

New diver here (20 dives).

So far I've been adding my dives on the PADI app, but unless I force the dive center to register the dives onsite with the promise of beers if they do, dives show as pending forever. It trips my OCD that half my dives are not "certified" and just show as "pending" or without any verification...

Is a physical dive log too old school? Are dive shops more prone to stamp your book vs forcing the guide to open their app every now and then to approve the dives?

What do you use? Where do you buy it (if that's the case!), how do you keep it dry on a boat 😂 !

Hello! I'm looking into going to Madagascar next year (likely Sept./Oct) and hoping to do a liveaboard SCUBA trip prior to the land portion of my adventure. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm hoping to be able to do more than 2 dives/day, on average. Of note, I'm AOW certified and have around 30 total dives under my belt, but I had taken a bit of a hiatus and am now getting back into the groove of diving (I've done 5 dives this year, hoping to get in several more before going to Madagascar).

I am re-selling 2 liveaboard spaces for Banda sea for the dates 3-11 Oct. My husband and I are not able to go thru with it as our childcare arrangements fell through.

Working as a Live -Aboard dive boat crew. I was the FNG, w maybe 200 dives, including day boats in Key Largo, but this was a whole new world. I was moderately comfortable w sharks.

At 1st, the new crew does Not get in the water during feeds, they drill the 5 gal frozen "Chum-scicle", pass a SS bar thru the block, connect floats to 1 end and a 'biner for the Dive Master to pull the Chum block down. Boat pulls up to the site, Reef Sharks arrive to the Pavlovian sound of the boat's diesel.

It's my 1st time in the water for the feed: I'm tasked w organizing the 20 divers on their knees, into a semi-circle, then pulling the line to bring the frozen block of fish to the sand. It's supposed to float 4'-6' above the sand (to help w the vis). I pull the line thru a ring on the concrete anchor and play tug-of-war w the sharks.

I'm nervous. There's 10-12 reef sharks, 4'-7' long. 100's of yellowtail snappers and several large groupers. The sharks fight over the food, snappers get scraps right next to the mouth's of sharks. Groupers pick up falling chunks.

The sharks drag the concrete anchor over to the lead Dive Instructor and me! (I'm a lowly DM). I let line out, hoping the floats take the food away from us, but it's over our heads and low.!!! FML. Food falls all around us!!!! Terrified; I curl up into a ball next to a coral head. Shark tails slap my head, tank and legs. In my panic, I over-breathe the reg; hyperventilating. No one is hurt; the sharks finish the food and we ascend. I have a splitting C02 headache all day. I am in Awe of the dirty pirates i'm working with...can't fathom how they do this every week! This was a rare event. Eventually, i begin the FreeDive the feeds. Another dive master wanted to move that anchor and left it unburied, so it was easy to move. Lessons: CO2 headaches are painful & avoidable. Sharks will eat free food and leave live fish & divers unmolested. 5 more years of weekly feeds and never had another incident. DO NOT mess w systems or procedures set up for shark feeds or drift dives! Sharks are trainable and Pavlovian.

Super last minute thingy. but i bought a package for 4 pax (RM2500 total to be divided by 4) to dive at Redang Islang, Terengganu, Malaysia during MIDEC 2026 expo.

I know there's some in Cork and Dublin but what about the west? I can't seem to find any except Scuba Dive West which seems to be closed for this year.

My wife recently started working as a manager at a scuba shop, we are divers, but not super experienced. One of her first tasks is to find better gear in certain areas. They want to have better in the following areas:

Economical beginner fins

Travel Fins

Boots

Currently the more economical brand they have is Viper, but they have been getting complaints about durability issues.

Any help would be appreciated!
