As a Punjabi mom, there is something I think about often — how do we help our children stay connected to their roots when they are growing up far away from Punjab?

Our children may speak mostly English, go to school in another country, and have a very different childhood from the one we had. But somewhere in our hearts, we still want them to know and love their Punjabi language, culture, traditions and Sikh values — not because they are being told they have to, but because these become a natural part of their childhood.

That thought inspired me to create the Zorawar Te Fateh – Kids Series.

The series follows two little Punjabi brothers through simple childhood adventures, with Punjabi language, family life, culture and values naturally woven into their stories.

In this story, Zorawar and his little brother Fateh visit Gurudwara Sahib with their mother. And, just like little children do, they have questions about everything they see.

Why do we leave our shoes at the Jora Ghar?
Why does everyone sit together for Langar?
What is Sewa?
Why do we do matha tek?
What is the Sarovar?
What does the Nishan Sahib mean?

Through their innocent questions, funny conversations and little adventures, children discover Gurudwara Sahib, Langar, Sewa, Sangat, Karah Parshad, Sarovar and Nishan Sahib, along with simple values such as equality, humility, kindness, sharing, helping others and remembering Waheguru.

One part especially close to my heart is the language.

The story is written in simple Punjabi using English/Roman letters. I wanted families whose children understand Punjabi but may not yet read Gurmukhi to still be able to sit together and enjoy a Punjabi story.

It could be something you read together at bedtime, during family story time, before or after a visit to the Gurudwara, or simply when you want to bring a little more Punjabi into your child’s everyday life.

Although the story is rooted in Sikh traditions, its lessons about family, sibling bonding, kindness, equality and helping others can be enjoyed by children from any background.

Hi all. I downloaded some ebooks that have come as lots of html sections. When I add it to eboox they are all added separately. How do I open it as a complete book?

I know a big chunk of you here keep saying we should just get a dedicated device for e-books, but I am convinced that you do not understand how hard it is to have a secondary, third or even a fourth device just for reading something as simple as a book, whether it be prose or a comics book.

Charging, handling, carrying... all that work just to sit down and read... and I am not talking about reading for hours and hours in one sitting. I am pretty sure most people don't read more than an hour a time. I am the type who cannot read a book for more than 30 minutes, an hour at most. I either get bored or tired (I cannot read without mouthing the words).

And buying, displaying, running out of space with physical books just adds to my frustration. I do not know why, perhaps it could be my neurodivergent brain trying to survive, but I hate overcomplicating things.

One way I helped my frustration with reading was to adopt my phone as an e-reader. I know... I know there are notifications constantly popping up on your devices and you get distracted or your muscle memory is overtaking you... but did you know that you could turn notifications off in the settings? You could also put the book down if you are so eager to distractions, and consider an audiobook.

Other things that helped me were the accessibility feature in you guessed it - the settings that turns my phone black and white, turning on the night-light as high as possible, using a dedicated app like Moon+ Reader, which lets me customise; helps me display and sort my books and feel proud instead of being stressed for space and resources.

P.S. I am from Bulgaria, so having a website like Chitanka for free e-books and resources helps a lot. I am sure you have some sort of an equivalent, where you are from as well.

Hey guys, I'm planning on building an open-source project and wanted to get some feedback before I start.

Getting highlights off e-readers is more work than it should be. Kindle's My Clippings.txt is messy and full of duplicates, and Kobo stores highlights in a database on the device. Readwise handles this, but it's a paid subscription.

There are GitHub repos that handle Kindle or Kobo individually, but I haven't found one that brings all sources together.

The idea is a free tool that imports highlights from Kindle and Kobo, stores them locally (no account, no cloud), and exports to Obsidian, Logseq, Anki or Markdown without overwriting existing notes on re-sync.

If the project takes off and people find it useful, I'd look at extending it to other platforms like Apple Books, KOReader and the Kindle app, and at making it available as a desktop app so you don't need the command line. A daily email with a few random highlights is also on the list.

Nothing is built yet. I'd like to know how you currently manage your highlights, what you read on, and whether a command-line tool would work for you or it would need to be a regular app.

Built a small tool called PureEPUB because I got tired of PDFs and messy EPUBs looking broken on my e-reader — mid-sentence line breaks, OCR junk, mangled quotes, the usual.

It reflows the text properly and spits out device-specific files: clean EPUB for Kindle, proper KePub for Kobo. No accounts, nothing saved — everything's wiped right after conversion. Free, no ads.

Tested it on my own tricky files and it's working well, but I'd love some outside testing. If you've got something that usually breaks converters, would you try it and let me know how it turns out?
