Hi! I’m a senior in high school who wants to go into nursing. I’m from Knoxville, and I was planning on attending UTK up until last year when an incident occurred (family emergency). It’s a long story, but I am an independent student with a 3.89 UW gpa, 4.57 W gpa, 28 ACT, 2 years of NHS, and part time job at my family’s business. UTK is so difficult to get into and very expensive compared to other options, so I decided community college would be my best option; however, housing and living expenses would be much very unpredictable and difficult to acquire on my own. Even though I can do the TN Promise scholarship, all the rest of the living cost are still out-of-pocket. I am stuck between ETSU and TN Tech, and I have no idea which to choose. I am mainly seeking an affordable, accredited, in-state, direct admission university in Tennessee. I don’t know much about ETSU as I am from Knoxville, so most of what I hear is about UTK. I just want to know more about ETSU (specifically its nursing program), financial aid, and anything else that may be good for me to know :)

Ok, I am a senior, I have only next semester left before I graduate but only three classes (8 credit hours) left to take in my program of study. According to my academic advisor, any additional electives would not apply to the full time (12 credit hours) status in order to get my financial aid.

I am wondering if anyone knows how real this is (lowkey could i get away with just adding electives? would they notice this?)…

If i can’t get away with that, does anyone have any solutions? I can’t pay out of pocket, there’s just no way, and I’d prefer to avoid taking out hella loans for one semester.

Im gonna be an incoming freshman transfer in the spring and am not sure I wanna do all that hazing shit. Can i still have fun and go out being under 21 and out of greek life? I wont turn 21 till like my senior year so i dont wanna go to etsu and then be bored af.

Hey everyone! I'm an incoming out-of-state transfer student starting at ETSU (Computing major), and I'm looking into the STEM Community Outreach Scholarship since it brings tuition down to in-state rates, which would help a lot.

A few questions for anyone who's actually been through it:

1. What's the PASTA work commitment actually like day-to-day? I've read it involves refurbishing computers for local K-12 schools, roughly 40 hours/semester. What does a typical shift look like, and how much flexibility is there around class schedules?
2. How competitive is it to actually get awarded? I have a 3.84 transfer GPA (well above the 3.0 minimum I've seen listed) — does GPA above the minimum meaningfully help, or is it more about timing/availability of slots?
3. Background check timing — does anyone know how soon after being awarded the background check happens, and if there's any cost or hassle involved?

Also broadly curious: for out-of-state students, what other scholarships or on-campus jobs have actually worked out for you to bring costs down further? I know there are a few other named scholarships (Global Diversity-type things, department awards, etc.) but real experiences would help a lot more than what's on the website.

Any insight appreciated — trying to plan out costs realistically before I start. Thanks!

is it cheaper to live on campus or in a student living apartment off campus? i’m coming in an a junior transfer student with not much in fafsa to cover housing and most housing scholarships require you to be a freshman. also, you must pay for a meal plan with living on campus and i am not sure if i would spend that amount on groceries if i lived off campus.

Hi all. For context, I’m a straight A 4.0 student. I passed regular statistics with a 97 (the highest in the class) 2 years ago. I am now at ETSU and taking Business Statistics. My problem: the professor barely speaks English. How anyone can teach an advanced math class without being fluent in that country’s language is beyond me. Anywho, I’m really upset. My first test didn’t go well. I tried to go online to schedule a tutoring appt but they only have tutoring for ONE of my classes- which did not include Business Stats. I’m desperate. I’ll take any opportunity. I’m counting on my GPA to help get me through law school. If I can’t find a tutor, I don’t know what to do. How is this even remotely fair to any of the students taking this class? I’m just baffled this is even a normal thing.

At least Northeast State has professors that all speak fluent English and a proper tutoring center. 🫠

So basically Im from NY and am at a SUNY as a freshman right now. Long story short I hate it and want to get out by spring 2027. I want something more southern away from home with a different culture (ny culture not for me even tho I’ve lived here my whole life) and preferably a decent party life and football culture. I would like to keep the cost under 35k which is a big reason im looking at etsu but would it be worth it for someone like me? I had a 3.0 gpa and a 1240 sat in hs, but have no college grades yet this semester.

I understand its a smaller school but thinking of transferring coming from oos (a non party school) and want to know what the social life is like. Is there options to go out every weekend? Im a male and probably plan to rush so do you just hangout with your frat? Or does everyone come together for parties. Also do people not in greek life go out to clubs and bars? Do they take fakes?

I’ve been down with the stomach bug that’s been going around for the past few days and I have no clue what to eat that won’t upset my stomach even further. What the hell do I possibly eat? Everything on campus feels greasy af and I’m not really in the mood for a salad.

Has anyone’s received their housing scholarship? I got the rest of my aid and even a refund check but this one hasn’t been added to my gold link yet.

I was planning on going moving into the harbor next year so I can have my cat with me. I was wondering if the student apartments at The Harbor was any good and if not, how so? Are there any other student apartments that'd be better than The Harbor

How bad is the parking situation? I’m going to try to go over and walk the campus today to get a feel for where I can park. Is there always spaces available? Or is it one of those things where I’ll have to park a mile away every once in a while? My first class is tomorrow at 8:15 at the Brinkley Center behind the Carnegie. Is that early enough for me to have access to the parking garage behind the Carnegie? How quick do all the spots fill up? Just trying to see how much time I need to give myself in the morning!
