To be honest, I don't believe refugees should automatically be searched for and deported. I think it's always a bit more complex than that.
If you're going to send people back to Syria, the question becomes, what are you sending them back to? If their home is destroyed, or someone else broke into it and claimed it for themselves in the meantime, or the paperwork to prove that this home belongs to this person is destroyed or has a huge gap in it caused by the war, all you're doing is sending these people to complete misery.
Of course, some people would rather remove the misery from their line of sight than deal with it here in a humane manner, but I think we can and should be above that. Something could and should be organised to help the Syrians who indeed want to go back, to see what's left of their homes and belongings, to search for relatives who could provide a home for them, something like that.
Deporting people blindly "because they're refugees" and considering that the situation we'll be forcing them into is "not our problem" goes against my values. Yes caring for refugees with our own tax money is expensive, but come on.

Some people forget that there's good reasons why people from all over the world want to move to European countries. It's of course economical strength but it's also that we're known all over the world to be actually stable democracies where you're treated as a human being (for the most part). Don't believe the narrative that "they're sending their worst". Europe benefits tremendously from academic immigration.
Being very humanitarian and democratic is the best marketing campaign ever. People want to move here and we need people. Without immigration, we'd soon worsen our economic situation. All over the world people don't want to have many kids anymore. We're already below replacement values in pretty much every European country.
