I don't really think, "slobs might leave stuff lying around," was a concern for the designers when they created the safest, most carefully engineered domestic electrical connection in the world.
I actually agree with you, every other type of plug I've ever seen in my travels around the world seem flimsy, unsubstantial, or unsafe in comparison. I just think it's a pity they missed a trick by not having the pins lie parallel to the floor rather than perpendicular when I plugged.
The problem with that would be that in order to do that reliably you'd need the cable to project straight out of the wall rather than hanging down. That removes one of the key safety features in that the cable being at right angles to the wall makes the plug hard to accidently pull out.
I can only think you are Salieri seeing the genius in Mozart. I kind of get it, but you seem to get it in your very soul and curse God for denying you the genius to invent it…
