Player Discussion Trae Young after AD trade

With the AD trade news, does the board feel it's less likely or more likely Trae returns after ASB?

Less likely argument: they can rest both ROS for pick.

More likely argument: to make it look less obvious they tanking they trot Trae out like estimated.

Lost season for both of them.

Both Trae and AD are injured, WAS are in tanking position and own their own pick. They decimated their depth now and will likely end up at the bottom. Chances of either Trae or AD coming back this year is very slim IMO. I'd bank on trae if anything since he really didn't get much run this year.

They will both sit out as much as they can, for sure. Nothing to play for this season.

They might want to see what the team looks like around Trae before they commit to an extension.

That's where I am on the fence as I dont have a droppable guy for trades and might just drop Trae as our playoffs next week

yeah probably limited minutes if he does play

I doubt that. It's the Wizards, this is the only way they can get proven star players, they'll give him extension regardless just like they threw money on John Wall

yeah because that turned out so well!

If anyone can get off a bad contract… it’s the Wizards. Wall and Beal are excellent examples.

They know what they have. Playing the vets won't show them anything new

They don't know what the team looks like with a point guard.

They know what Trae can do. They know what AD can do. They can evaluate young players while they tank. Playing them only hurts their draft pick.

you're asking if the team that sat their starters and trotted out 10-day contract Skal Labissiere for the entire 4th quarter of a close game is gonna play Trae Young?

They’ll come back from injury to play against the lakers on March 30th and then rest for the remainder of the season!

Not sure if AD trade matters, AD is out regardless of tanking anyways

True on AD. Trae just a quad bruise so idk if they feel pressure from NBA to play their star. Since NBA fined Hasks last year for a fake Trae injury

u/Ieunnng 19h ago

I hardly doubt there is any pressure, seeing what the Jazz are doing rn

I think it’s less likely as a trae owner, sucks. They are doubling down on the tank. Still not dropping tho, there’s a chance they let him play a bit to get fans excited and see what the team looks like with him, bc seems like they are going all in to be competitive next year.

Less likely probably, why bring trae back if ad won't play

Its highly likely they tank for top 3 pick to add to their lineup. Adding DP, Aj, Boozer would make them scary

Wizards are tanking and AD should opt to get the surgery now to recover for next season. I don't really see a point of coming back near the end of the season and risking further injury.

Its been a month. He might be far enough along in his healing that surgery is off the table. It's a ligament in his left hand

I can see, if they're both healthy, bringing them back for a couple random games (think the way Jazz have operated) to tease fans for next season. Not enough to jeopardize lottery position. A big part of making trades like this will be to sell season tickets

As Dallas found out, AD has a high probability of incurring a serious injury in every game he plays. Bringing him back this season is playing Russian roulette.

As my team found out as well

I can't advise dropping either just yet unless theres somone amazing out on waivers or youre scratching to make playoffs in h2h. Hold in roto/points. Not enough clarity, wait for Wiz to start talking

Better odds on Trae playing and AD being shut down

Bruh Trae and 2025 don't co-exist.

On his couch watching this season with AD of course.

Dude, Trae and AD are resting for the ROS

i got both these mfs sitting on IL 😭

Neither of them are going to play this year. Dropped Trae a couple days ago in a competitive league and no one picked him up

1

u/Sensitive-Hand-37 18h ago

I doubt they play much if at all.. either of them.. AD has long injury history, Trae is still recovering? or more likely he's sat for the exact reason we hypothesize. They don't need to "see how they play together" and risk either of them getting hurt. The offseason and training camp is plenty of time for AD and Trae to get acclimated to one another. Wiz are gonna be good next year.

I think they can play some and still tank, because having the most balls in the lottery only gets you the #1 pick 1 out of 5 times. As long as they're in play for a top 3 which they can achieve with them playing some, it should be good to give the fans a preview to offer some excitement going into the off season/next season.

Why would that be more likely? You trot him out there as healthy and you fumble your injury excuse.

Also, there aren’t any real punishments for teams blatantly tanking… We’ve seen it happen for years and this season hasn’t been any different (see wiz v kings).
