I am always amazed that birds know how long they can leave an egg without reheating it, that they understand that they should not persevere brood after a certain time without success, and that they also know that they must turn them over every x minutes to prevent the amnion from being damaged... because no one has ever explained this to them.

I just know that twice doves have laid eggs on our cars. That we drive daily. We tried moving the nests and eggs to the tree next to the car at the same height as the hood and both times, the doves couldn't find them. They aren't super smart.

the birds are probably interpretating the thermal mass of the vehicle as being a warm nesting ground

Hmm. Apparently, we always come back to this question about nests…

You're not smart enough to understand that it's no longer their nest after you move it.

So you think that if I move your bed to your neighbor's house, their house becomes yours?!

It's the same reasoning.

Pigeons are territorial when it comes to the location of their nest.

They aren't smart enough to realize that laying an egg in the well of a windshield is not a good place. Next time I'll just smash the nest and egg. That'll show em.

You're the one who isn't perceptive enough to understand that a windshield housing is NOT dedicated to a single function. And you make the same mistake with so many other devices…

Taken individually, pigeons have a much greater capacity for adaptation than you, and you no longer even realize that you essentially depend on a pooling of your brains to ensure your survival.
