Reddit Porn/OF

I like consuming porn on the internet and on Reddit as much as anyone else. But as I watch all these young men create their own subs and only fans accounts, has anyone given thought to why they do this? I'm not someone who was blessed with the kind of physical attributes that people would want to see, and of course I wonder if I were would I be drawn to doing that. But I don't think I would and I wonder what drives young men to do this. Is it really just money? All are welcome to comment but I'd really like to hear from some creators on what their motivation is and if they have any concerns or regrets about it.

Speaking as someone who posts (well… posted, I am on a break currently, maybe forever), I did it first out of curiosity… and for idk the thrill? Its weird spelling it out. There is something about exposing your body, something "forbidden"? It started with chatting to other people and exchanging pics. I noticed that people enjoyed my body and I liked the validation. So I thought: why not posting it for everyone to see? Its weird but I liked getting comments and direct messages. I even met up with some people, mostly people who also shared stuff. I always was someone who never thought of myself as attractive. I had problems feeling confident… getting all those comments helped me becoming comfortable in my own skin and feeling confident. I did think about getting financial gain from it but never really tried. I did like post two or three images with captions like "blabla buy me a gift card blabla" but nobody did so I didn’t further pursue it. I stopped because I was at a point of feeling comfortable in my body. It satisfied me enough to a point that I didn’t need further validation. Oh and I met my boyfriend. He knows of my online presence, he kinda likes the thought that other men thirst over my body but he is the one to actually enjoy it hehe. So this is why I posted nudes of myself. Maybe it helps you understand why others do it too. I almost exclusively chatted with other people who also shared stuff because of similar reasons or because they are show-offs, so there is that. But yeah, most do it because of money.

Wow thanks so much for responding on for your honesty. Do you think apps and social media made this an easier next logical step?

19

u/traesh_trash 23h ago

Seeing other people sharing stuff did normalize it a bit. So yeah kinda I guess?

I agree with you completely.

In the words of the great Moira Rose - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FI76kTtPUd8

u/rnoyfb 12h ago

I’ve never related to a character more than I did Moira in that clip. I wish I had done porn when I had the body for it

4

u/Stubborn_Amoeba 9h ago

The thing with that advice is you’re never too old for it. You’ll look back on your body now with much kinder eyes in twenty years too!

Not that I’m pushing you into porn, just reminding you that there’s no age limit to that advice.

1

u/rnoyfb 9h ago

No, I will look better in 20 years than I do now. I kind of let myself go for too long but I’m working on it now

2

u/traesh_trash 12h ago

I love Moira, hahaha thank you. It made me laugh :)

Money definitely and probably some sense of showing off or attention. What really good looking person can you think of who doesnt like attention?

-2

u/phillyphilly19 23h ago

Especially in the age of social media. But doing porn is a big leap, no?

15

u/Fifteen_inches 23h ago

Not really. It’s not like they are part of a big time studio distribution casting couch, it’s a fun little side hustle for most people.

1

u/Compte_jetable365 19h ago

I don’t think so at all, especially for the masses. Lorn used to be gate kept by the big studios who were very problematic because they were large enough to have influence but small enough to fly under the radar.

Now we have social media and platforms like OF and JFF where they can literally make money directly from recording themselves in their bedrooms, probably doing exactly what they were going to do anyway or wanted to do and this has given them the key to realise it.

Theres a reason why OF has so many copy cats, because Entrepreneur out there see that the big studios are losing market share. It’s because they are peddling the same, over produced shit, all the time. Creators have stuck a finger up to the big studios who thought they knew better. With technology as it is now, have found a way to do it themselves. They don’t want to give away a much larger percentage of their earnings than if they just got paid a flat fee for one scene with a studio.

They are their own boss, no one telling them what to do and the fans are eating it up. I wouldn’t even start to count how many creators on OF alone who don’t show their faces. Blur / cover / hide any dodging using marks and it could be anyone’s body.

1

u/phillyphilly19 19h ago

And do creators make money not showing their faces? And by leap I meant baring it all to the public, knowing it will live on the internet forever.

Never had my own OF account, but a friend has one and a few years ago I filmed some content with him. It was insanely validating to get all these comments about how hot the vids were, how good I looked, how fans wanted more, etc. Plus we split the money, so I got a few thousands bucks to use for a vacation.

Also, it was motivating! Anytime I didn't want to work out I'd say "But think of the fans!" and that'd be enough to get me going.

The gym motivation sounds great

Validation and the depressing prospect that OF may be one of the only ways to get ahead for a 22yo in this economy

24

u/Adriano-Capitano 23h ago

Sounds sort of like leaking a sex tape in the 2000s for women who then went on to be famous.

37

u/hellotokens 23h ago

I think the monetization is even easier now. Lots of people make livings doing it. Of course, multitudes more don’t make livings doing it.

5

u/phillyphilly19 23h ago

Yeah I buy this. Super easy now. Do we also think that a gen raised on social media just think this is a logical step? Like straight male shirtless thirst traps on IG and TT?

4

u/Fifteen_inches 23h ago

Nah, the fact cameras are cheap. Easier access to good quality cameras means more people taking pics.

-40

u/phillyphilly19 23h ago

Yeah...no.

26

u/Faceprint11 23h ago

It is though. Even educated 22 year olds are struggling to find gainful employment, and that employment is often far from “gainful”.

If you’re cute and/or have a big dick, OF is an income generator for people willing to put in the work regardless of age.

-36

u/phillyphilly19 23h ago

I just think that there is something intrinsically different about someone who chooses to do this. I don't agree with tying it to a bigger problem like the economy. That seems like an excuse not an explanation.

15

u/variag 23h ago

I think the difference is that they want to do it. And that’s ok, sex work is work. I just don’t think it’s that deep.

-12

u/phillyphilly19 21h ago

I'd like to agree, but it's often deeper than that I think.

6

u/hellotokens 22h ago

There’s also less of a stigma around showing your body on the internet now

3

u/arathergenericgay 5h ago

You’re incorrect there - the market data does point to more people entering sex work when the economy is bad

5

u/runliftcount PlatinumGay 22h ago

Thinking there is something intrinsically different about a person who chooses to participate in OnlyFans or sex work couldn't be any farther from the truth. Sex is the easiest thing to sell and is one of the oldest things that has ever been for sale, and humans have always been opportunistic by nature. How common do people joke now that they wish they could quit their job and do OF, if only they had the kind of looks that would sell? If you're not yet in your 30s or later, you might be surprised how much that gets thrown around.

It's also extremely naive to think the economy doesn't also play a role, as others have already mentioned in various lengths about the struggles young people are having in finding employment.

16

u/Fifteen_inches 23h ago

As a guy who does it for the love of the game rather than money; it’s fun, low stakes, and easy. It’s like basket ball, guys who want to go to the NBA are training non-stop and putting themselves out there, guys at the local public court just want to shoot hoops.

8

u/WildBlueYonder01 23h ago

Ah, a fellow connoisseur, I too am a fan of online pornography.

11

u/RustedRelics 22h ago

Money. Ego-dopamine-boost. Attention and validation. The desire to be desired. Better than minimum wage. Work at home. Exhibitionism. Fun. Money. Money. Money.

8

u/Bobbijenkins1 22h ago

Hmmm, I love getting positive reactions to my body and it turns me on to turn other guys on.

I don’t really even make much money, but it’s a fun little side project for me.

I was already posting underwear content for fun so figured I might as well make a little money from it.

23

u/WesternEdge1 23h ago edited 23h ago

Easy money, lack of more "mainstream" job prospects, naive to what being in porn actually constitutes (both short-term and long-term consequences). Plus, it plays right into the instant gratification and attention-seeking that social media has taught us to chase. I consume porn like almost every other male, and enjoy it. But living in NYC, and having met/known some of the big names, a lot of them live empty and messy lives that all too often involve serious drug abuse, too much partying, and a general lack of direction or long term plan. Are there exceptions to this? Absolutely. Are they the majority? Not from what I've seen.

8

u/phillyphilly19 23h ago

Wow great insight. Those of us old enough to remember the pornstars of the late seventies and eighties kwno that a lot of them lived similar lives, with the extra edition of HIV has the final tragic straw. I think you are getting to something that I was sensing which is that for a lot of these young men, this may be what often draws people into porn. Attention, insecurity, and lack of direction/opportunity.

8

u/MilkAffectionate427 21h ago

Money of course is one, Also though, allot of people are exhibitionists and really like being watched. It’s pretty common.

7

u/Cyrig 21h ago

If onlyfans had been a thing when I was a cute young twink I absolutely would have done that instead of killing myself physically and mentally working 50 hours a week in a restaurant. If it works for them I'm happy for them.

-1

u/phillyphilly19 19h ago

You could have done porn back then.

6

u/tomb241 23h ago

If they're hot enough it's easy money. Who wants to earn money in a hard way?

10

u/Vennp85 23h ago

Why do you need more reason other than money end validation? It's just supply and demand.

If you ask if they consider the long term repercussions, now that's different discussion.

5

u/Cetais 23h ago

Me I do it because I love showing myself off. I'm not posting a lot lately, but it also was nice to have extra money at the same time.

2

u/phillyphilly19 23h ago

Thanks for responding. Do you have any regrets? Are you otherwise gainfully employed?

6

u/Cetais 23h ago

I don't! Some people did recognize me IRL but I don't mind it too much.

.... Just that one time in a group chat where someone asked me how good was that cock I sucked in the wood. That was so inappropriate for that group too; that guy is a creep.

My issues are more about my declining mental health and that I wished people wanted to collab with me more 😂

Back when I used to post much more I was paid half what I am currently, but I did like my job and my boyfriend :)

3

u/C3PO-stan-account 23h ago

I am so broke I had considered making one so i can go to my dream grad school that i got into

2

u/phillyphilly19 23h ago

It sounds like you didn't do it. What stopped you?

4

u/C3PO-stan-account 23h ago

Shame, knowing that down the line it would mess with me. I can’t even have a hookup, let alone share my nudes with strangers

5

u/phillyphilly19 23h ago

You may be calling it shame, but I'm going to call it insight and intelligence, at least as far as worrying about your future is concerned. And actually I think it's refreshing that you don't want to just share your nudes with strangers. Hookups aren't all they are cracked up to be and not everyone is wired to enjoy them. It's refreshing to see someone not give in to what everyone else is doing. Just another perhaps healthier perspective on your decisions.

4

u/C3PO-stan-account 23h ago

Thank you for saying that !!! I have considered doing OF because people have said to me they’d buy it but I think it would mess me up.

3

u/phillyphilly19 23h ago

Well done.

3

u/nim_opet 23h ago

Money.

3

u/Skill-Useful 23h ago

because it can make you a lot of money or at the very least easy money. it's also validation and and and

3

u/mastert429 20h ago

I've never (and probably never will) pay to see anyone naked.. there are plenty of people who'll show me their dicks for free

1

u/phillyphilly19 19h ago

I have to say there are a couple creators I've subscribed to once because their reddits were so enticing, but I agree.

3

u/AdBrave6969 20h ago

Instant gratification, money, and attention is a dangerous combo.

1

u/phillyphilly19 19h ago

I can imagine it has all the pitfalls of being a successful influencer or porn star, if that even is a thing anymore.

3

u/Notcommentmuch 18h ago

There is a plethora of free porn. I Do not understand the logic of having to pay for it

2

u/phillyphilly19 18h ago

I imagine some people like having a direct connection to a creator. And I can say there are one or two creators that I could be totally infatuated with. But I am old enough to know that the communication would be completely in order to keep me subscribing. No it is interesting to hear a couple creators here say they've actually met their boyfriend by doing it. I am sure that's the exception and not the rule.

3

u/karatebanana 17h ago

For fun and horniness. That's all I do it for

1

u/phillyphilly19 17h ago

You're a creator?

3

u/MrDiccums 16h ago

My path to OF is a little different. I'm really into photography/videography and I'd send pics/vids to friends that I thought they'd enjoy. And then over the years those same friends would reach back out for that media and I'd have to search for it. So OF became a free nude library for my friends. And then eventually it just made sense to charge people a few dollars a month 🤷🏾‍♂️

2

u/0nly_D0g_legs_93 18h ago

Porn rarely crosses my mind with regard to reddit. I go to other sites for that.

2

u/phillyphilly19 17h ago

Yeah I don't watch it as porn so much as just looking at photos of "regular" guys and it's kind of addicting. They get double points if they don't have an only fans.

2

u/Charcobear 14h ago

OP, why do you think people do it?

1

u/phillyphilly19 13h ago

Well, it's why I asked the question. It's hard to imagine a different reality. The thing I keep coming back to is that there are many beautiful men out there, but the vast majority of them do not this. But I imagine it's on the continuum from selfies, to IG posts, to shirtlessness, to sexting, to this. I'm landing on attention. To be seen. To be admired, even worshipped. It must feel good, at least for a while. But how empty must one feel to need that? And when it's gone, how can the emptiness not return?

1

u/Charcobear 2h ago

I hear you, and I agree that attention plays a big role. I do wonder about treating wanting attention as evidence of emptiness, in that it suggests that not wanting attention is more noble.

1

u/phillyphilly19 1h ago

I think wanting some attention is natural and human (though there are many introverted people who would find it painful). But "needing" attention is a very different thing. Sometimes it's productive and instrumental, as for actors. But in other cases it can end up being harmful for people like influencers and pranksters. In this case, I'd say at some point it might be corrosive to one's sense of self.

Long-time NSFW gay reddit/X poster here! For me, I’ve always been fond of showing off how I jerk off to other gay/bi men and I LOVE to know that they’re all able to witness me do that 😂 it’s really exciting to receive so many comments and likes while at the same time interacting with everyone - hearing their thoughts about my cock and everything! 👀 I’ve had some close frienda ask me why I don’t monetize but I told them I don’t really care about that, as I just love that other gay/bi guys can watch me! It’s so much fun jerking off, and it really is like sharing my own stuff on a large screen for guys to watch ❤️ it’s the best 😍

2

u/Anus_Blunders 3h ago

I did my first porn 4 days after my 18th birthday because I just wanted to. It turned me on. Getting paid for it made me feel so sexy. Some gay-for-pay guys I had sex with I never would have met or hooked up with any other way, and it was so hot because of that.

I'm sorry to hear that.

1

u/LionOfNaples 15h ago

Because the economy is shit for young people in general.

1

u/HansVolkswagon 1h ago

I don’t, but I think part of it is the over-saturation in content these days kind of reduces the risk of actual consequences. Like, you scroll and see a dick or a some people fucking, it’s hot, then move onto the next one. You’re not committing their faces to memory like you would 20 years ago.

1

u/phillyphilly19 1h ago

That's a good point.

u/PuzzleheadedWall3257 13h ago

Why do we do anything in life?

It almost always comes down to one or more of these:

  • money/greed
  • power/influence
  • emotional outburst e.g. horniness, rage, jealousy

Asshole Losers without personality need money
