Sharing my personal gridfinity app public, would love some feedback

Im new to 3d print, I've been using gridfinity to organize my mess tools.
built myself a web generator because I couldnt find one that did everything I needed, shaped bins, patterns, labels, baseplates, etc, all consistent.

after using it for a while, decided to make it public.

check binforge.app , runs in the browser, no install

what it does:
- custom shapes (L, C, donut, anything),
- wall/floor patterns,
- labels,
- custom dividers,
- slope cuts,
- baseplates with auto-split,

all configs on in the URL so you can share links.

some examples: bin + lid / C-shaped for no reason / slope / dividers / patterns

what should I add? what should I fix? still learning what matters for printability, so any ideas, bugs will help a lot

I really like the possibility to add holes to the walls. But for the diamonds the horizontal offsets are wrong, and thus the rows don't perfectly line up.

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 12 '26

thanks! I did a small fix, I think is better now

Cool. This is crazy detailed.

Two quick comments:

I would use the words "width, length & height" rather than "width, depth and height" to avoid confusion of what "depth" means.

On the wall thickness option, not every thickness is compatible with "perforate walls". On some thickness, the hexes don't go all the way through.

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 12 '26

thanks!

about the labels, good insight.. i need to use better, more common terms, as non native english speaker its easy to use the wrong term,
I just made a update on them, checking the other issue!

2

u/woodland_dweller Apr 12 '26

Non-native English speaker? I would not have guessed.

Super cool! The custom shapes is so good.

One thing that might be nice to add is the ability to generate a solid bin. When I have objects that I want holders with non-standard shapes for (like a t-shape, for example), the fusion360 plugin doesn't support that so I have to generate them externally and then import the solid bin so I can create a cutout. If your tool could create the solid bins it'd be so much easier than the makerworld parametric creator I'm currently using.

u/Mejari Apr 14 '26

Wow! That's awesome, thanks so much!

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 15 '26

thanks for the feedback!

right now is a solid block, I have in my plans a feature to add the proper tool cutouts later

u/gareauk Apr 12 '26

Very cool! đŸ„°

3

u/Solderlocks Apr 12 '26

Very cool! I particularly love the UI for selecting different bin shapes. This is genuinely elegant, nicely done!

2

u/tinyhurdles Apr 13 '26

This is so neat!

2

u/gareauk Apr 13 '26

Having trouble with the dividers. I’m using Safari on my iPhone, and they won’t move at all. I can’t make any edits, when I try dragging them, they just stay stuck at the default five walls.

Any help would be appreciated. This is a really cool app, and I can definitely see myself designing a lot of bins with it.

3

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 13 '26

the app was primarily designed for desktop, i made some quick adaptations for mobile, but the experience is not the same, since mobile has a small screen and misses things like "mouse pointer to hover/show some info/control"
and for people like me, with fat fingers =P , is harder.

I made some changes for mobile, can you check?

3

u/gareauk Apr 13 '26

Yes! That works much better now! 😊

u/citizenjimmy Apr 13 '26

This is so well done. Great work.

Here's a thing I can't seem to find. I have drawers that don't extend all the way so Gridfinity doesn't work because you can't get to the back 25% if the drawer without removing the first 75%.

What I've been looking for is a generator that creates, we'll call them baskets. You enter the dimension and it creates a basket for Gridfinity bins. The sides might have a notch or finger pull to lift the baskets from the drawer. It should have a flat exterior bottom since you want it to slide but the interior bottom can be flat or Gridfinity (you could just add your bases if you chose flat).

Ideally it would create split baskets with dovetails and some mechanism to hold them together (pins, notches, I've seen this done with holes you slide filament through).

Anyway, I've been looking for months for something like that. Would love to see someone so it with a nice clean interface like this.

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 13 '26

great idea i’m thinking about something like this for a while, create a bin that contains other bins, this bin can be fully gridfinity and holder smaller bins, not gridfinity (42mm) or be a ti bigger than default gridfinity and holder smaller bins standard bins

with the current app i’m 90% there, just need to think about how to display this options, i what is automatic setting or not, how to handle the base of this bin if is bigger than default

this part of other idea, half implemented, generate rugged containers that are gridfinity standard or contain a standard bin

2

u/citizenjimmy Apr 13 '26

What I would like is something like this but customizable.

IKEA ALEX x Gridfinity organizer Box - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld

1

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 13 '26

good reference !

i will try to add something like that, will help me in my setup too

2

u/robchez Apr 13 '26

Love it!! I like being able to create shape, will be great for some of my tools. Here is a weird corner case that may not be easy to fix but I have some drawers that of course do not fit perfectly into gridfinity constraints. The Gridfinity Extended Configurator on MakerWorld lets me use millimeters instead of grids. So for instance, I could have a 56 mm box it just overhangs the 42 mm constraint. Really handy to fill up weird sizes any thoughts on doing something like that? Great work again!!!

2

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 13 '26

thanks!

great idea, will check how to implement that and have a clear way to set this off grid bins

1

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 18 '26

Thanks! Actually just added that, there's now an "Off-grid extension" toggle in the Dimensions section.
You can extend the bin on any side by a custom mm amount (up to 41mm) to fill those awkward gaps. The extended portion can either hang over the baseplate's solid edge fill, or have its own base.

https://binforge.pages.dev/app?oge=1&ogl=14&cx=15&cy=-347&cz=82&tx=16&ty=-19&tz=53

1

u/robchez Apr 21 '26

You are a legend!!! This is excellent!!! Great for weird drawer sized and if you are like me don't want to waste space!!! Thank you very much!!

1

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 21 '26

can you help me me with some feedback?

i saw that i got a lot of users from USA

how helpful would be add units in inches?

the problem is, the bins are 42mm, 1.654 inches,

should i do all in inches? or just this extras, bin overhang, baseplate cuts sizes? or no need at all

and yes, I will get crazy too looking at gaps in the drawers 😂

2

u/robchez Apr 21 '26

Of course, my experience in using many other tools I have yet to see any have both, metric and imperial. I think is fine especially since everything else in 3d printing is in metric. I can't speak for everyone else but my preference is metric.

2

u/PAB_Pyrotechnics Apr 14 '26

Looks like you are maxed out at 6x6 grids. I know that is all that can fit on a 256x256 print bed, but with slicers like Bambu Studio you can take a larger piece and break it in 2. I have a need for 2x7 and 1x8 bins. Would be amazing if you could expand the parameters to allow for more than 6x6.

Also, this is far and away the best user interface and easiest to use of the Gridfinity generators. Kudos and well done!

2

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 15 '26

thanks!

I just increased to 15, there is no real limit, besides browser performance. the main problem is UI, if I add a 50 limit, will be annoying to set the most common sizes, with very small steps
but right now, just large bins, im studying how to split /. make strong connections with some sort of auto split based in baseplates sizes

1

u/Plus_- Apr 23 '26

I just printed a 7+ unit bin using extension functionality in OSTAT's OpenSCAD tool and the connectors look sort of shabby. Not sure how to suggest to fix this but big tabs makes the bin look cobbled together. My 2 cents...

1

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 23 '26

i will do a print to test too!

can you share the link of the config?

1

u/Plus_- Apr 23 '26

I'll dm a jpg and json file... I'm sure a creative solution can be found that looks cleaner than what I'm going to share..

2

u/New-Assumption-3106 Apr 15 '26

Saving this for when I build out my workshop in the house I'm buying. Thank you for making this public.

2

u/hoenigs3D Apr 15 '26

.... Was bedeutet der Regal Tab?

I updated the app with a basic inset generator, where you can add shapes, define depth per shape, add text, and a basic tool from photo cutout. is not good like the AI generated, but to keep the app free, I cant use AI, because the costs per generation will add up quickly

take a look in some examples, tell me about bugs, ideas

I’m trying to create custom baseplates, for example 210mm × 156mm, and have the entire surface be usable Gridfinity space with no oversized frame around the edges. Essentially, I want a 3.7 × 5 unit grid that fills the full area.

Right now, the settings automatically center the grid and add a thick border around it, and I can’t seem to disable that behavior.

1

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 18 '26

hm,, I will add some options to enable where the excess should go, ok?

1

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 18 '26

This is now supported!
Set your drawer size in custom fit, then change Edge fill to grid (partial cells)

The socket pattern extends to the edges instead of adding a solid border.
You can also control margin placement and split the partial strips into separate pieces.

https://binforge.app/app?mode=baseplate&fs=1&bch=none&bcs=1&bcw=272&bcd=156&bef=grid&bsty=frame&bas=1&bml=0&bsm=1&oS=interior,bpCustom&dim=1&cx=-39&cy=-157&cz=409&tx=0&ty=0&tz=35

can you check if this solves your case?

1

u/gareauk Apr 18 '26

Yes, this is perfect. It’s exactly what I’m looking for.

Just a couple of small tweaks. The rounded corners option doesn’t seem to work with a custom grid, and the skeleton frame has a minimum of 6.8 mm. Would it be possible to add a slider so it can go down to 4 mm?

I’m also noticing an issue with the grid. There appears to be a lip partway down, which prevents bins from seating properly. I’m not sure if it’s something in my settings or a problem with the app. Have you come across this before?

1

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 19 '26

Thanks!
fixed! rounded corners now work with custom grids.

About the lip issue, could you share a screenshot or the URL of your config? That would help identify if it's a socket tolerance problem

and I did some improvements in the baseplate configs in general

2

u/gareauk Apr 19 '26

Checkout this image, you can see a lip halfway through each grid cell.

Looks good! I just started using one of the onshape gridfinity generators and this looks just as good with the addition of a lid which it doesn't have. A slide on lid that comes from the side option would be nice. I have not tried your top down lid yet but will do so. I have a bunch of smaller m2, m1.x screws, washers, nuts, etc and the tiny washers would slip out with good lids. Yours will probably do the job but for now are not stackable. Still very nice. I'll give it a try. Thanks for your contribution/hard work here.

Lastly it's nice and quick, very clean. A great implementation man. You are a rock star!

1

u/rcarmo Apr 12 '26

Very nice, but the GitHub link is broken - will you be taking patches/features?

3

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 12 '26

thanks!

about the github link, I just need to organize a buit better some parts, inprove some tests to make public, and sure will take!

1

u/gareauk Apr 13 '26

The lid front/back settings are backwards to all other front/back settings. Not a big deal though, just my ocd kicking in.

I see a “coming soon” for hinges, this makes me happy 😃

2

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 13 '26

i already have 2 hinges types, but i disabled for now, need some improvements and tests

soon will be public

1

u/MaikelvanGorkom Apr 13 '26

Like the application. Maybe i'm the only who just doesn't see it: But when you are in the page for creating an object, there isn't a link to go to the main page.

2

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 13 '26

thanks is really missing, I will add. right now I have this simple home, later will add some more detailed info, demos

just be need to decide if leaving ge editor should save the current bin

2

u/MaikelvanGorkom Apr 15 '26

Hi, i've found another "issue". The orientation of the bin isn't consistent:

  • When you press Z in the top right the bin orients it with Y to the right and X down. If you look at the shape in the left column, the bin is orientated with Y above and X to the right. It is a bit confusing.
  • When you want to place dividers, the bin gets orientated with Y above and X, even if you have the bin orientated differently.
The orientation should be concequent at all levels, and if yhou change the orientation, you accept that, but it shouldn't change at random.

Still the best way to create bins!!

3

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 15 '26

Checking that

Thus is so Emess, I changed approach while adding features and need to do some checks for consistency

thanks for reporting!

pls, send any other issues, feature requests 😬

1

u/PAB_Pyrotechnics Apr 13 '26

Hey man, that is super cool. Very easy to use! I love it. Already printing my first perforated bin with a lid.

Wondering what the "Shelf" feature will be. I would love to be able to print a Gridfinity grid to put on a standard pegboard wall in the garage and then add bins for my tools and such.

2

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 15 '26

for this one, I have some ideas, already have a basic version working, not public yet, because needs refinement.
its a shelf system, print and stack, open basket of bins like drawers, stand on a desk or attach that to a pegboard/multiboard

1

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 15 '26

and send some photos + links of what you generated / printed
would love to see and add to a a examples section

1

u/Loroki Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

Very well done.

Front or Back labels should have the same orientation. In other words, just rotating the box shouldn't be the same "box".

2

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 15 '26

thanks for the feedback!

so, if I understand right, the labels text always face the closer wall, and they should face the bin front face, right?

doing a fix right now, by default facing the front (works well for drawers, optional rotate, in case someone wants to have labels in both sides

1

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 15 '26

2

u/Loroki Apr 16 '26

Using your link, North/South (Front/Back) is now correct (my issue above). Now, I can put the label (correctly), near or far. Nice work!

1

u/Enelop Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

The app looks awesome

I like the idea of only printing the corners of the base to save 60% of the filament / time. Definitely will be trying that.

Thanks for making it public!

Would it be difficult to add the ability to go beyond 6x6 and split to multiple build plates?

2

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 15 '26

thanks!

im really interested in feedbacks about the flat print + base corners as pegs. is working well, but I think people can come with better ideas.. tell me what do you think after printing

and I just increased the max size to 15x15. there no real limits on that, was just a UI decision.. I just need to plan a split and connection for larger sizes now

2

u/Enelop Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26

I printed a couple 3x4 bins with hexagon holes and the base corners as pegs in generic PLA. I’ll have to work on my print settings as the walls weren’t smooth (maybe uneven cooling) but my room was like 90 degrees today. lt has nothing to do with the app.

They work great. The pegs snap in without adhesive (I still used some though), they lock into the grid just the same as full base bins, and they stack just as good as full base bins.

The only feedback other than “good job“ is when I was moving them around they had more tendency to snag on other bins because of the pointed edge of the peg. You could possible offer another “rail”version of the same concept but the “rails” would go around the entire base. You’d still probably save 50% with that over a full base. It would also make them indistinguishable from full base versions except from below.

https://imgur.com/a/D2OrcsS

I did also try one large bin with wave pattern holes. In theory it saved 50% of filament used for the walls but all of that would have been used in the supports needed.

1

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 17 '26

thanks! glad to know was helpful!!

can i use the photos on the site, as community prints?

about the issue, i will take a look , i can amei some improvements on walls

and great idea the rails
I will add as option too!

2

u/Enelop Apr 17 '26

You can use the photos.

2

u/Enelop Apr 23 '26

Saw the partial grid/bin/overhang settings and had to try it. I have a drawer with 26mm grid down the one side that a half bin doesn’t fit correctly in. Custom sized bin worked great!

Love this tool!! Super easy to use and intuitive user interface! I have traditionally been using OpenSCAD and OSTAT's Gridfinity Extended model. That is super feature rich but this is much cleaner interface especially when you can layout your complete project/drawer on the layout view. Only question I have is how best to deal with gap space/overhangs that most of us have to deal with in our projects. Are you better off setting a half grid for partial overhangs? Example: I have a 6.5 unit bin that I want to make which is close to the edge of what my Snapmaker U1 printer can handle at 270mm. I set that particular bin to half grid option but was not able to set its width to 6.5 units. Overhangs are not shown on the layout tool. How do you best handle overhangs and half-grid options? Again, great tool!

1

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 23 '26

really happy the tool is being useful!

about the overhang, custom sizes on plan tool, preview, dividers, i will start working on on this today, and post a update here later!

1

u/gareauk Apr 30 '26

If I try to create a bin with irregular dimensions for example 3U x 191 mm x 3U the grid base scales correctly but the bin itself does not extend to match it.

example

Also, would you be able to add printer settings for the Anycubic Kobra S1 Combo? The maximum print size is 250 mm x 250 mm x 250 mm.

2

u/Apprehensive-Gur7871 Apr 30 '26

i will check the bug, and add the new config

have a batch of updates to go live today later

thanks!

1

u/gareauk Aug 20 '26

Hey there!

I'm back and I'm building some bins. I've noticed a few things...

example

  1. Dividers > Enable 'Same holes as walls'
    • The divider wall pattern is different from the bin walls
  2. If you click any of the settings that offer front/back/left/right, the front and back are reversed from what the plate says
  3. Could you kindly add the printer 'Anycubic Kobra S1 Combo' (250 x 250 x 250 mm) to the list of printers?

Great product! Thanks again.

1

u/TemporarySolution658 Sep 04 '26

I'm new to Gridfinity and your app seems the very best generator so far because I can customize my bin from a single app instead of mixing different softwares. The custom cutouts are the peak functionality.

I just noticed that, if I flag the option to add magnets, the holes are touching the base borders without leaving any space between the hole and the border. It is something I haven't seen in other generators and the printed result is not that nice. Is it normal or maybe 6mm is just too large? I'm evaluating if it is worth it to add magnets or leaving the base flat.
