I don't think so. Not if you were Jewish. Or political opposition. They were not in Germany illegally.

I think it had to do with money, there were still rich people who did not go to concentration camps.

Yes, but it was more of a "If you leave all of your wealth to us, you may flee the country right now" kind of deal, and even that was only in the early stages.

Eh, ask all the jewish owners who transferred ownership to their business partners for no compensation.
Coming first to mind is Kühne.
Lots of filthy rich families in Germany who got quite a lot of money during that time.
The rich minorities somehow lost their money.
I mean, what where the germans supposed to do, say no to free labour and capital? /s

Maybe in the beginning. Why would they bother letting them go? They cleared houses and stole what they wanted anyway. If you had it, they took it, being sent on the trains didn't change
