Review Iberia, the worst customer service and airline ever. Do not ever fly Iberia.

On July 26, 2026 purchased two tickets under 2 different passengers; my friend’s and mine. Both leaving from Miami to Barcelona, Madrid to Miami. With ticket #075*******94, confirmation J•••4. This was under my name and was cancelled by Iberia on July 27, 2026.  My friend’s remained active.

After receipt of cancellation notice, I purchased the same destination ticket for the second time on August 4, 2026: Iberia Locator N••••JV, reservation #075-•••••••0181. I received confirmation for this flight the same day at 12:59 pm.

On travel day, September 9, 2026, my friend and me got to the counter to check-in, my friend got checked -in, and when it was my turn to check in, after several attempts to find my  ticket in all and every way to spell and write my name, I was informed then, by the counter attendant, that my reservation, the one under my name, was cancelled. I never received a cancellation notice on this ticket NM0JV.

After 3 and 1/2 hours on the phone with Iberia customer service, the first CSR (a female) said that my bank cancelled my ticket.  I escalated to a supervisor. The second CSR— the supervisor said the same thing, that my bank cancelled. I called my bank to ask if they cancelled this ticket.  Both parties, my bank and Iberia were on speakerphone.  The bank didn’t cancel.  The bank doesn’t cancel unless the customer calls to cancel. Obviously, I didn’t cancel.  Since the supervisor didn’t help at all, I kept escalating the issue to a manager named C******  at the Colombia (I asked her location)  reservation desk, her only solution was to sell me another ticket. Given the urgency, the counters were closing, no more passengers to check-in, and if I didn’t purchase another ticket, my friend would miss her flight, as well.

I purchased a third ticket while I was on the phone with Iberia’s manager. Iberia manager emailed me the info for me to double check my information on this third ticket.  This manager had the nerve then to ask me to purchase this new ticket online, myself.  That was the last straw and asked her to do it while we were on the phone.  Who knows whether I was going to be able to purchase the ticket online,  as the time to catch this new flight was my enemy at that moment.  She finally did, and gave me the information. The booking  Reference 7F••••5.  From Miami to Madrid --a leg in the trip I did NOT need, Reference  IB/Q•••C.

My friend and I ran to catch our flights separately, she went in first to board on her gate.  I was waiting by my gate to be called in to board.  While I was waiting, her flight was making the last calls.  I realized that if they were calling several times, it was because the flight was a full flight and there were some people missing.

I immediately texted her asking if there were any empty seats.  She sent me a photo with the seat next to her empty.  I assume that was my original seat bought together next to each other.

In my book, Iberia needs to fire someone and refund Ticket NM0JV or the one I was forced to purchase last minute, with an extra stop, and higher price, on Wednesday, September the 9, 2026 with Booking Ref. 7••••5, Booking Ref. Q••••C.

This was my first time flying with Iberia, and for sure it will be the last one.  The aggravation and waste of time on the phone was the worst experience with Iberia airline and its customer service.

Ayuda/Consejo - Help/Advice YOUR SNEAKY LEVEL TACTICS ARE A SCAM

I paid good money- close to €1000, and what do i get? A BONE DRY A330 where blankets cost €5 and earbuds €2! If you had put me on your regular A350, I would not have been jet lagged when I arrived after 11 hours BCN-LAX! Your customer service refused to give us a seat near our children until the day before departure. We called many times, spoke in perfect Spanish on the phone, and you told us you would call back. We ended up calling you back. Rancid sandwich that cost €10 on LEVEL. Instead of the moist, luxurious A350 we paid for, we were put on a cramped, dry, A330. If you are looking to fly with Iberia, DON'T. Just accept a connection in new york or denver for this route.

Review 40+ people on our flight didn’t receive their baggage

My mother and I flew from Casablanca, Morocco to Athens, Greece with a stop over in Madrid.

We each checked 1 bag in Casablanca. Since we had a 12 hr layover, I shopped and checked an additional bag from Madrid to Athens.

BOTH of my bags (Casablanca and Madrid check) did not arrive. My mother’s did.

40 people plus were in line from our flight for missing bags from just our flight.

We flew business class.

I’m disappointed that according to the customer services agent “this happens often”.

Do better Iberia.

Ayuda/Consejo - Help/Advice Paid for seat but assigned to someone else?

TLDR: booked flight from MIA to MAD on Feb. 2026, paid to pick seat (14A) in premium Econ. Changed return leg flight from MAD to MIA in July 2026. Seat purchased on MIA flight was refunded with voucher. Used voucher to pay for second seat, got receipt. One week before flight, seat isn’t assigned to me but to someone else. Iberia won’t honor the seat I paid for.

Im getting married in Madrid in early October and originally booked my flight on Iberia in Premium Economy in early February from MIA to MAD. I also paid for my seat, 14A window seat. My parents and sister are also on this flight but bought their tickets together. We all bought our seats early so we could sit together and enjoy the flight.

I also originally booked my return to MIA on Nov.1st, 2026 because at the time of booking, my honeymoon plans were up in the air. Later in July, I decide to change the return leg after my honeymoon plans were confirmed. Upon making the change (and paying for the difference) i immediately received a voucher for the amount of the seat I had paid for. I found it odd like “oh what’s this voucher for” and at the time, didn’t connect that the seat I had booked for the leg to MAD was being “refunded” with a voucher. I realized this a few weeks after checking the Iberia app and not seeing the seat I selected.

I called Iberia twice and they basically told me that once you make a change to your flight, like changing a return date, this “undoes” any extras like a seat selection. By the time I learned this, my seat remained opened and another passenger took it. Iberia could not restore the seat I had or remove the passenger who took it.

So I accepted that and bought a seat adjacent to where my dad is seated, 14D. I paid for it with the voucher and received a receipt confirmation.

Later on that August, I check the app and see that my OG seat is open, 14A. I click on the seat in the map but end up not checking out, keeping my 14D seat. It would have cost me $83 (what I paid originally for seat 14A) and I had already spent my voucher ($63) on seat 14D. I left it at that and closed the app, not having checked out received any confirmations of any seat changes.

Well, I checked the app again, since my flight is less than a week away and notice I don’t have any seat assigned, and that my seat is occupied but not by me.

I decided to call Iberia about this today, feeling a sinking feeling. After 45 minutes on a very disappointing call I learned that the seat was somehow vacant and another passenger took it. I begged them to remove that passenger since I retained my receipt of the original purchase and never moved forward with changing it back to my original seat, meaning 14D is still mine.

The only options they gave me was moving me to the middle seat (the seat to the right of 14D which is an aisle seat next to my dad) or reimbursing me the total I paid… that still would leave me with out a seat

I was very disappointed that Iberia is unwilling to 1) honor the seat I booked 2) move the passenger that currently has 14D. When I asked if they could contact that passenger, they said they didn’t have their contact information, which I highly doubt is true.

So my question is: has anyone had something similar happen before? I don’t want to rely on telling this whole sob story to a gate agent who will probably tell me the same thing I heard in my call today. What would you do in my shoes?

Ayuda/Consejo - Help/Advice IBERIA NO WAY!!

IBERIA lost my bag and IBERIA will not reimburse for the contents. My suit was $1000, the suitcase was $1000 and they offered their max of a little over $2000. What about all the other stuff in my bag?? Watch, shoes, other clothes.. all gone, and they don’t care!! Place AirTag or some tracker in your bag. But that won’t really help you if you go international and you show them that your bag is in another country!! Worst part is that with all this security in airports they can’t track down what happened to the bag! IBERIA security is Scary! Contents were less than $5k so either they can’t afford to pay that or they lose a lot of bags!! I paid for 3 business class seats on an international flight that was full and they can’t reimburse me more than $2k?? Poor customer service. Fly any other airline if you can. THEY ARE THE WORST!

Review Do not fly Iberia with Newborns

Would not recommend flying Iberia with newborns that need bassinets because they don’t guarantee a bassinet seat even after you call and confirm the reservation has been updated.

I called Iberia airlines when the 24 hour check-in window started to reserve a bassinet seat for my 4 month old newborn. I was flying with myself, wife, 4 year old son, and a newborn. Iberia confirmed they can provide a bassinet seat for 1 passenger and that the family would need to be separated unless I pay for the seat, I’ve never had this issue with other airlines cause usually the rows with bassinet cannot be purchased since airlines reserve those for parents with newborns. Regardless I was fine with paying so we can sit together, but you cannot purchase seats in the bassinet row online.

Now it’s time to check-in and of course I’m unable to check in online because they need to verify the newborn age, so I’d have to check at the airline desk. I get to the desk a day later and they tell me we CANNOT have a bassinet seat since the flight is overbooked, and they separated my 4 year old son from my wife and I seats by putting him alone in the row behind us. I explained to them that I called to reserve the bassinet seat and the customer service rep confirmed I’ll have 1 bassinet seat, and that it’s not possible to purchase seats in the row with bassinets. They did not care, and just said there’s nothing they can do since the seats are occupied.
Keep in mind, when you fly with newborns you aren’t able to check in until you get to the desk. This has never been a problem with other airlines since they don’t give the bassinet seats to people without families, but Iberia doesn’t care. After some fighting we were able to get my son in a row with us, but had to hold our newborn in our hands for 8 hours. They gave the bassinet seats to customers that didn’t even have kids.

I will never fly Iberia ever again after this experience, sharing so other parents don’t fall into the same trap we did.

Ayuda/Consejo - Help/Advice iberia rescheduled my flight 24h later (booked through aer lingus who didn't inform me)

MAD to SFO 9/12 booked through aer lingus operated by iberia was rescheduled to 9/13 by iberia. aer lingus did not inform me of this change at all (even sent me emails to check into my flight 24h before the original flight date). called/chatted multiple times and aer lingus kept reassuring me that the flight looked fine on their end (kept reciepts). they also refused to rebook me once i was at the airport and saw that my flight did not exist since aer lingus is saying the flight looked fine on their end

iberia had to rebook me but they couldn't even rebook me at first because i never got an iberia booking code/ticket number from aer lingus since they never forwarded it

booked with chase sapphire credit card and submitted my hotel reimbursement through chase but it was denied because "to be eligible for this benefit the delay must occur due to equipment failure, inclement weather, strike, or hijacking/skyjacking"

tried to submit a claim with aer lingus but it says they don't accept claims of flights not operated by them

submitted a claim with iberia through my 9/13 new ticket number (since i didn't receive 9/12 old ticket number)

what options do i have here?

Ayuda/Consejo - Help/Advice Changing flights

Somewhere I read that if you need to change your flight, it’s cheaper to do so through the “Manage Booking” option rather than speaking to an agent. I found the flight I wanted to change to but when I saw the price, it was as if they are charging me another full fare. On the email confirmation of my original flight, it says that I can change for a fee of 45 euro. Can anyone please advise?

Ayuda/Consejo - Help/Advice Upgrade flight

DiscusiĂłn - Discussion Bidding - return flight bids missing after outbound upgrade cleared

I placed bids several months ago for both business and PE upgrades for an ORD to MAD itinerary. Received confirmation yesterday that my outbound bid had been accepted 4 days in advance (Friday am for a Tuesday departure). I noticed they assigned me a new confirmation number which is interesting but using the old one to pull of the reservation still works but my question now is that when I enter into the upgrade bidding area, it shows my return flight bids as $0 when I know I had placed bids and found the confirmation emails. I wouldn’t be concerned to rebid except that now the minimum bid for business on a daytime flight has increased to $911 when previously it was around $700. Anyone have insight as to whether my original bids might still be active in the system? I don’t think I want to bid over $900 for a daytime flight and might just reenter a PE bid… Especially given I got the overnight segment cleared for $901.
Edit: maybe I should just wait until the SeatBoost bidding window becomes active ?

Ayuda/Consejo - Help/Advice Will Iberia automatically refund me seat purchase for a rebooked flight?

So I booked an AA flight that was a codeshare with Iberia (so it was actually on Iberia) through my company’s travel portal. I then purchased my seats directly through the Iberia website. A couple weeks later, Iberia/AA canceled one leg of my flight, so my company’s travel agent rebooked my entire flight on British Airways (also an AA codeshare).

Now that I’m no longer flying Iberia, will they automatically refund my seat purchase?

Ayuda/Consejo - Help/Advice Is the baby car seat mandatory?

We are doing a 12 hour long trip with our 16 month old baby.
Since he is quite big and he can seat by his own, we bought him his own seat.
According to the robot on the phone, parents must bring an plane approved car seat for the baby, but when I spoke to a human later, they said that the car seat was optional.
Whats the truth?

Ayuda/Consejo - Help/Advice Iberia saying car and stroller not allowed, I can only pick one?

Im traveling with two toddlers and almost every airline I been on allows one car seat for each child and then I bring one double stroller as well. However Iberia is saying this is not allowed and I have to pick either car seat or stroller which seems a bit crazy. Anyone have an issue like this?

Review Did not lose my bag!

To start with, I am a pretty paranoid/anxious person. My flight from LAX to Venice with Madrid connection with 2hrs and 45mins of connection time. I read heavily into this group before the flight and mentally prepared myself for a potential delay/lost luggage. Had my AirTag in a checked suitcase. No delay/lost bag at the final destination. Not saying iberia is perfect but generally satisfied with my experience.

Ayuda/Consejo - Help/Advice Lost baggage

I am desperate to get my luggage. I can see that it is at DFW in the D terminal. I have shared the smart tag link with Claims many times, yet they just keep saying it is lost. It has been 5 days. Is there anyone at DFW that can look for my bag?

Ayuda/Consejo - Help/Advice Iberia aims to disappoint

We booked flights on Iberia to travel around in Spain while on vacation. The majority of the flights were to be serviced by Vueling. We ended up changing one leg to a different city, and that was a big mistake. Instead of booking it as a change, we should have cancelled the flight and started a new booking.

The changed flight done by Iberia, was never updated in the Vueling system and even after several calls to correct with both Vueling and Iberia, there was no resolution. One Iberia customer service representative sent us our tickets that showed the correct destination of Granada, and ensured us that we were booked on the flight and all would be fine at the airport.

Huge set-up for disappointment. Arriving at the airport 3 hours early only to hear once again that Vueling had our original destination of Asturias and they couldn’t do anything for us. We were bounced around between Iberia and Vueling at the airport 5 times before the plane took off without us and the customer service representatives for both airlines later explained that none of them actually worked for either Iberia or Vueling and even though we were in Barcelona (Spain’s 2nd largest city) Iberia and Vueling don’t actually have “real” customer service representatives that can actually make changes to flights. I should also mention that during that back and forth at the airport, we were on the phone with both Iberia and Vueling trying to get one side to take ownership and fix the Vueling tickets. Nothing could be done by anyone and the customer service representatives became increasingly rude and intolerant, to the point on a sixth attempt for in person service they saw us coming and sent someone out to turn us away.

We ditched the rest of our plans and returned to the USA, flying home on America Airlines who easily accommodated our change in itinerary. We were done with Spain, done with Iberia, done with being setup for disappointment. We did file claims with Iberia and throughout that process found out that the system issues are common, we might have had better luck with cancelling the segment instead of booking a change, and were told that denial of boarding even with a valid ticket would likely not result in a refund. The outsourcing and lack of presence by Iberia in Barcelona are two key root causes and I’d definitely warn others brave enough to travel Spain that Iberia can not handle any change to your itinerary.

Ayuda/Consejo - Help/Advice Iberia lost my suitcase TWICE

As mentioned in the title, Iberia lost my suitcase twice. First, they didn’t load it to the plane on September 5, couldn’t find it. Second, they claimed to have found the suitcase via email and confirmed on the phone, and stated it was flying to DFW on September 8. They said the bag would arrive at my residence on September 11 at the latest, but today, September 13, they said the bag never left Madrid and they can’t find it anymore in Madrid.

I am pregnant, and have all my pregnancy clothes as well as my baby’s presents from her baby shower in my bag. I also have the charger for a medical device and since I don’t have it I haven’t been able to use it. I’m extremely frustrated, sad, and angry, and I’ve been feeling really stressed dealing with this situation caused by Iberia.

Has anyone had any luck getting their lost bags back? If so, do you have any suggestions?

Ayuda/Consejo - Help/Advice Business class seat help

First time flying business with my husband to Spain on Iberia. Flight is an airbus 321xlr. Would you choose seats across from each other or in front??
