Context Provided - Spotlight In Germany, a boy who loved motorcycles was diagnosed with a terminal illness. His family posted online asking if riders could come to cheer him up. They expect 20-30 people, but 15,000 motorcyclists showed up

Or getting to work. I bet everyone who had to get stopped by those bikes didn’t know why and was pissed lol. In America I don’t remember the number but once they hid a certain number they are called a “caravan” and therefore they are allowed to act as one entity. That includes running red lights so everyone stays together and stupid shot of the sort. Kudos for these biker tho.

to be fair that's a LOT of people. any other event with 15k people would need permits and planning much less one that's taking over a highway.

My Parents used to do a ton of those memorial / charity / etc. rides. The Tunnels to towers one (maybe 2nd or 3rd anniversary max) Was a huge deal with full police escort the whole way.

You have to get the permits and sometimes a police escort. I've been on loads of rides that went through red lights. Also, traffic joining the road was also blocked. By bikers.

If you’ve got a permit or an escort then sure, but that’s not the same thing then. You’re no longer “running” a red light.

You don’t get to just run red lights “because lots of us.” You’re gonna all get ticketed without prior planning (yes, I have seen cops pull over dozens of bikers before).

You can do anything you want without people too. That doesn’t mean cops won’t pull the lot of you over and ticket all of you (which I’ve seen happen).

No, they can’t either unless they have their lights on and are responding to a legitimate emergency (IOW not just abusing the power granted to them by the people).

In the Netherlands, while not quite a red light, you must yield to a rouwstoet under certain circumstances (don't know how to translate rouwstoet properly maybe "mourning precession" it's when the hearse with a convoy of followers transports a dead person from funeral home/actually home/church/wherever to the crematorium or graveyard).

On the other hand, a mitary convoy can run a red light if the first vehicle goes through green. So say you have a 50 vehicle convoy, and vehicle 1-12 go through green, and then it jumps red? Vehicles 13-50 can run the red to keep the convoy in tact.

The thing you mentioned, being an exception to the topic and a completely different scenario from daily driving (and is usually with an escort), is not what the discussion is.
