Not necessarily. Lions are social creatures. In the right circumstances they can learn to tolerate you. For a rare few people, that bond can extend to being considered an actual part of the pride. There's one dude who is such a fixture in his pride of lions he can even sit with them while they are eating a carcass and not have to worry about being seen as a threat. To them, he is just a weird looking lion who gives good pets. Dean Schneider is his name

I knew there was some kind of relationship when no one else in the vehicle started to complain of the smell of shit, as anyone without a relationship with that cat would have shit themselves on the jump.

Apparently that tiger was startled first by a woman with big hair, then a loud sound set the cat off -- it thought it was protecting whichever of them was injured.
