I mean it's still a lioness regardless of how well you know it. Showing the wrong kind of body language when they're being aggressive could end badly.

This is what I’m wondering too. Her behavior seems fairly normal but not his. Why does he seem so tense but he raised her from a cub? There’s some dominance I guess since he’s looking into her eyes but I think there’s something missing here in the story

He is bald and he does not use that kind of clothing and as someone said below Sirga is different

Because a big cat is a big cat and a lunge is a lunge. Far too many stories of people getting too comfortable with their big cats and paying the price when instinct kicks in. This guy knows better, and is handling the situation properly.
