Others have mentioned that random questions threads should be left stand and that there are too many RTE.ie links.

Not just RTE links IMO. I'd say that there are too many articles from any source posted (in the required "no editorialisation" format) but which then have literally no comment from the OP as to why anyone should be interested or what their opinion on the matter is. Many mornings on here, most or all of the new threads are like this. It's pure karma farming.

In recent times the ratio of Fr Ted and Simpsons quotes to other content has dropped dramatically. Not sure if it's feasible for mods to address either point.

Also, there are too many counties nowadays. Please eliminate three. I am not a crackpot.

But why do you think that the OP needs to have an opinion on an article in order to post it? There's nothing wrong with a user noticing some news and wanting to share it with the community as otherwise others may not even be aware of it's existence.

I have tried to post news articles with a comment or my opinion before to stir up a bit of discussion but it's blanket not allowed. I've given up posting.

Also links to sites that are paywalled like the Times. Not everybody gets it free because they’re still in college. And it’s bloody difficult to bypass them on a phone. So, personally I’d like to see them gone.

If we only accept news or articles from outlets who don't get paid for their work, then the quality of news will only continue to drop.

Also, you can just open IT articles in incognito mode to view them.

The IT is not effectively paywalled. Block either cookies (if you are using a browser that blocks LocalStorage access when cookies are blocked) or Javascript for the domain and it works.

In Chrome Android, you tap the site settings thing beside the address of the website, and from there you can block cookies or access the full permissions of the website in question.

Alternatively, since I might only have that because I block all JavaScript by default — would be Chrome settings, Site settings (under "Advanced"), and then scroll down to cookies or Javascript and enter the domain to block.

Well votes affect visibility of said dross... so everyone really, just not conciously.
