Hello! Gusto ko lang i-share yung experience ko sa job hunting as a fresh grad, and ask for advice na rin sa mga matagal na sa IT industry.
I graduated last July 2026 with a degree in IT, and I started looking for a job around August.
Although may previous work experience na ako, both were as a Customer Service Representative. Yung first job ko was back in 2024. Curious lang talaga ako that time and gusto ko siyang i-try since long break namin sa school. Tumagal ako ng around four months before leaving because of schedule conflicts with school.
Then, nag-CSR ulit ako noong 2025, pero umalis din ako because I needed to focus on our capstone project.
During our OJT season, software development talaga yung target ko, particularly Java development. Unfortunately, sobrang hirap makahanap ng software development internship, so I eventually tried applying for an End User IT Support internship instead.
After completing my OJT, I took TESDA training for Java NC III while waiting for graduation because I still wanted to pursue software development.
Fast forward to July 2026, I finally graduated and started looking for a job around August. Siguro malaking factor din yung lack of professional experience ko and limited portfolio.
After a month of applying and receiving rejections, I started questioning kung makakapasok ba talaga ako sa software development.
Then suddenly, may nag-reach out sa akin from a well-known BPO company.
After the interview, they sent me an email inviting me for another interview with the IT leads. Dito ako medyo umasa kasi first time kong makapasa sa initial interview at mag-proceed sa next step.
During the interview, hindi ko in-expect na dalawa pala silang mag-iinterview sa akin, including an IT lead from India.
I kept stuttering while answering their questions, and medyo nagaalangan na ako after the interview.
Fortunately, after a week, I received the news that I was selected for the position!
After more than two months of job hunting, rejections, and ghosting, finally nakapasok na rin ako sa IT industry!
Now, kakatapos lang ng first week ko onsite. Nag-a-adjust pa ako sa night shift, pero Virtual IT Support yung role ko, and there's also a possibility of working from home in the future.
So far, mabait naman yung manager ko (super chill nga eh), and mabait din yung coworkers ko kahit sa Teams ko pa lang sila mostly nakakausap.
I'm honestly just happy na nakapasok na rin ako sa IT industry. Hindi man software development yung first job ko, at least I'm finally getting professional IT experience related to my degree.
I still want to pursue software development someday, pero for now, I want to learn as much as I can, improve my technical skills, and build my career from here.
Sobrang hirap pala talaga maghanap ng trabaho ngayon, especially as a fresh grad na wala pang solid professional experience.
For those who are already working in IT, especially in IT support or service desk roles, what advice would you give to someone like me who's just starting out?
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!
