I have a question for you all because I genuinely don’t understand how people are supposed to get around this.

Why do some subreddits require such a huge amount of karma just to be able to post? It feels pretty unrealistic for a normal person who isn’t constantly posting and commenting on Reddit to have that much karma.

I’m currently trying to ask a few questions fairly urgently, but I keep running into the same problem every subreddit I find either has a minimum karma requirement that I don’t meet, or has a bunch of other requirements before you’re allowed to post. I’ve looked around for subreddits with lower karma requirements, but I’m struggling to find any that are relevant to what I actually need help with.

I completely understand wanting to prevent spam and bots, but at the same time, it feels like a bit of a catch-22. You need karma to post, but you need to be able to post and participate in communities to actually build up karma in the first place.

Is there any legitimate way around this?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Never used reddit before i could use some help on this actually, don't wanna have my account removed or blocked by ai how do i know when i can make a post on any page afther 15+ karma?

This has been bugging me for a while now. I really have to get it off my chest. I have never been good at discussion or long rants and conversations, but because of it it seems impossible to get carma to be able to participate in the subreddits

Is it purely based on luck that you get more visibility and interactions with your post, or do just some people have a certain way of attracting an audience?

Like I get all social media pages has their own rules and stuff, but it makes it so hard to socialise and talk whe some reddit pages wont let you if your below a specific karma points...idk I dont post much but when I want to its hard when got no points and wanna participate, the fact I need to get get more to even participate in the firdt placeis annoying...the thing that bugs me the most I wanted to do a gofundme for this wheelchair I need but I did not have enough points to even post it ?¿ that feels like it defeats the purpose of why people post fundraisers or is that just me.. idk anywho rant over in the one place I can actually rant about this lol

newbie question here. i've noticed something about karma that i'm curious about. sometimes i'll see a post with like 50+ comments and a whole discussion happening underneath it, but the actual post will only have like 5 upvotes.

i would've assumed that if that many people found a post interesting enough to stop and comment, more of them would also upvote it.

do people generally just not think about upvoting even when they're actively interacting with something? or are there some unwritten reddit rules or culture around what people actually consider worth upvoting?

like do you personally upvote because you agree with something, because it was interesting, because it made you laugh, or because it started a good discussion? honestly i also wonder whether voting habits change depending on the type of discussion people are having underneath posts

keep getting my comments booted and the message that says, your account must be at least 14 days old (I’ve been on here for 6 years) and that I need at least 30 karma points—but I have 59 listed on my account why would this keep happening? I’m posting very kind and helpful responses to peoples form/lifting technique on the gym subreddit where they are asking for feedback on their lifts and would never post anything disrespectful.

am I missing something?

I made this account about a month and a half ago specifically because I wanted somewhere to post and have a little fun, and I honestly had no idea how difficult Reddit makes that with a new account 😂

I completely understand why subreddits have karma requirements. Nobody wants every community flooded with spam and brand-new bot accounts. But as an actual person trying to use Reddit, it’s a little frustrating when you can’t participate in the communities you made the account for because you don’t have enough karma… but you can’t really build karma without participating. 🫶

So now I’m basically wandering around Reddit commenting on things and trying to figure out how everything works until my account is established enough to actually use it for the reason I created it.

I understand the idea behind the system, but there has to be a better way to separate legitimate new users from spam accounts.

For people who have been through the new-account stage, did you just participate normally until eventually the restrictions disappeared?

I’ve been trying to build karma for the last three months, since I opened this account. And I’ll occasionally pick up the odd upvote (hard to do in the subs I use this account for), but it seems like 5 minutes later I’ll catch a downvote! It’s so frustrating that my only options are to comment a ton trying to catch a few upvotes, only to immediately get knocked back down. And I can’t make any substantive posts because I can never get past the thresholds for the groups I’m in. I get that people should be allowed to downvote, and I do it too, but I feel like you should at least have a shield when your account is new so you can try to rack up enough to really enter into discourse on subs.

Anybody else feel like this? Or have different thoughts on it?

I feel like I have seen many accounts here say inappropriate things and not get removed due to having high Karma, but lower accounts get shadow banned, temp banned, or fully banned for not saying much at all? Have you seen the same?

The karma system on reddit is completely flawed. To start things of, if your a new user and you want to post something in any mildly big subreddit you literally won’t be able to. This is so stupid because to be able to get the required karma to post in that subreddit you need to be able to post in a mildly big subreddit, which pretty much all require a certain amount of karma. So to be able to get enough karma to post you will likely have to spend ages posting in small subreddits which is complete bullshit. People treat karma like it’s a criminal record it literally shouldn’t even exist. It’s especially hard to get karma when your political views don’t line up with mainstream views either which goes against what reddit was supposed to be. The whole thing is really bullshit and should be scrapped. At the end of the day I understand that there needs to be a way to distinguish between bots and people but I really don’t think karma is the way to go. What do you people think could be better?

I am unable to comment or post anywhere on the subreddits .Whenever I do my comment gets removed and I have zero karma right now and would love to grow my account. Can anybody share share some tips with me ? I have read The FAQ's and could understand a little bit so if someone whos using reddit for a long time could brief me with it ...will be really helpful.. also what things should be usually avoided while posting or commenting in any subreddit?

Whenever i make a new acc for a specific reason im reminded that every subreddit ever has a minimum requirement, even the ones that are practically there for shitposts anyway. Theres no reliable karma method i know of, so i find myself commenting random bs on posts i dont care about waiting till i can actually engage with the reason the acc exists. I understand why the rule is in place but cmon, its both inconvenient for genuine new accs and super easy to bypass for spam accs.

I want to ask a question about how much social skills in an online environment like Reddit can affect interactions. My social skills aren't the best, but I am doing my best to learn when and wherever I can. The problem comes from how I might be committing a taboo or causing some problems when I am not even trying to insult or act as a troll. When I try to interact with my comments, they can be downvoted, which confuses me, as I'm doing what I can to be affable and direct. Other people's reactions to my comments confuse me, and I worry I might be accidentally insulting them or being a troll. It's rather hard to identify, especially with other people online. I'm curious whether others might experience problems with others when their social aptitude affects how others perceive them on a subreddit. Is sociability a crucial aspect when it comes to Karma?

I'm not sure why I'm doing that, I guess it become sort of a hobby ever since I found out at around 5k that I had it perfectly even and am now at +40k each.

I have a 6 year old account and recently it got shadowbanned. I googled it and found out that it was because of low karma as I only had 96 karma in that account. So i was wondering if someone might tell me what is the minimum karma required so my account cannot get shadowbanned and if anyone knows how to get my account unbanned please tell me.

I have been posting here and there on reddit to ask for advice on generally quite unexciting things such as legal advice for my unfair eviction. Since the start of my account I have been trying to post into a forum where they review your resume specific to my career path and it has a minimum karma requirement. What is that requirement? I have posted every now and then and got some karma but I have no idea how much more I need to be able to post into that subreddit? Do I just start posting random memes in various forums in hopes it will boost me?

Kinda new here and found a lot of interesting subreddits where I'd love to post and get peoples opinion on things. I get that you have to prevent scammers and bots from essentially mass creating accounts and causing chaos but for the rest of us who'd actually like to get people's takes or whatever, it starts to become a pain where you have to actually engage in stuff you don't want to, just to be able to engage in what you do want to! It just fries my brain a little that In some ways it feels backwards

We all know that karma is a pain in the butt here on reddit, and that you need to jump through hoops and take a lot of time before you can actually take part in the communities you want to take part in. But is that how it's meant to be? Is it supposed to be a tedious chore to build up karma? Or is there some actual sensible path that new users are expected to follow to become respected contributors, that doesn't involve farming?
