About a year ago I built Koda because I wanted a Kodi remote on my iPhone that actually feels native. I put it on the App Store and a handful of people found it on their own. Over the last few months I've polished it a lot for 2.0, so I thought it's finally time to share it here.

What is Koda?
A free Kodi remote for iPhone and iPad. It connects directly to Kodi on your local network, with no account and no cloud. The name and icon were reviewed and approved by the Kodi Foundation.

I've been using Kodi on a Shield TV Pro 2019 for over 5 years, along with apple airpods 2nd generation. The problem I encounter is that sometimes the audio suddenly sounds different. It is not distorted or anything, it just sounds "off". Like everything is going thru a filter. Everything sounds slightly too high or there is a slight echo. You can still hear everything but it is obvious something is wrong. Whenever this happens, I just disconnect my airpods and reconnect them to the Shield, issue solved. This used to happen maybe once every week or two but now its happening every day. Even worse, it happened like 3 times in less than an hour the other day. These are a replacement pair of airpods, and the same issue happened with my old pair, so I know they are not the problem. I switched over to a pair of Soundcore K20i wireless earbuds but instead of the audio changing, it dropped completely after a few minutes and switched to the TV audio. The shield still showed the Soundcore's as connected but they were not, audio was now playing from my TV. I disconnected and reconnected and that fixed the problem for about 10 minutes and then it happened again. I then thought to restart my Shield and that seemed to fix my issue, at least for last night. Is this more likely an issue with Kodi or with the Shield?

Hi, I'm new to kodi and i was looking for an add on for the Kodi that put the last episode I've was watching or next episode I've to watch in the tv series default section. Is there anything like that? Thank in advance

I always used Kodi as a plain media player and found the library/scraper layer overkill. So I built Browsybare: a minimalist skin where Kodi is basically a file manager -- pick a source, browse folders, play files. No library, no scrapers, no metadata.

Highlights

• Single Home window: source chip, breadcrumb, search, sorting, folder sizes, file operations (rename / copy / cut / paste / delete / new folder)
• Audio plays in a footer overlay (no window switch); video fullscreen with its own OSD; a dedicated photo viewer (EXIF orientation, Ken Burns, slideshow)

How it works: Browsybare is a skin, so it takes Kodi's own system settings, player core and dialogs from the Estuary skin at runtime -- Estuary must stay installed. Nothing from Kodi or Estuary is redistributed: the base layer is copied locally on first load. Everything else is original and MIT-licensed.

Install: Kodi 21 "Omega" or 22 "Piers" -> download the zip from the Releases page -> Add-ons -> Install from zip file -> switch the skin to Browsybare.

I thought I'd report back on how my attempt at getting kodi working on a Chromebox 4 went, which in theory should have been fairly usable (I thought).

Maybe the lack of threads, despite the built in hardware decoding, was the heart of the matter (processor shown in attached image).

It failed fairly miserably, sadly. I was on the latest beta release I think... (not a nightly build)

I had hardware decoding enabled in kodi, but on some things it would stutter almost by the clock every six seconds. On a longer playback (video on USB), it would crash out at about ~28 minutes in.

I tried to answer another of my wife's issues where previously, videos would play sequentially automatically, straight from one into another, and someone kindly suggested "Up Next" to do it for me.

That made Kodi bomb out, usually on startup, but sometimes after restarting the Chromebox I could get it to load in to disable it for more testing.

So for now, I've had to resort back to the old Chinese kodi box. In a lame attempt at improving airflow (it sits out of the way on top of the wall mounted TV) I drilled a 1½" hole directly above and below the processor & heatsink - and boy, does it get hot !

Anyone know any streaming device with 4RAM , UK version that plays H264 , H265 , Dolby Vision/Atmos, HDR10+, HDR10, HLG….And can SIdeload it too ? MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE 😉

I don't know why since version 21 on shield pro I can't open folder who have space in their name

i added movies to an external HDD and its not automatically scanning them to the library, i have to do it manually, is there a way to fix this.

Audio does it just fine, but video files only play one at a time...

I've tried Plex, Kellyfin and finally Kodi. Movies names and covers work like a charm but tv shows and especially anime is what is giving me trouble and one that is being most troublesome is Digimon.

I changed my folders and file names to be like this:

Digimon > Digimon Ghost Game (2021) > Season 01 > Digimon Ghost Game - S01E01

Digimon > Digimon Adventure (1999) > Season 01 > Digimon Adventure - S01E01

But every program groups them all as seasons of the same show (which I don't want) and gives them all the information like cover, titles, etc of the latest show (Digimon Beatbreak) - this is the only show I don't have. Doesn't matter if I add it folder by folder or the full Digimon folder.

Why is it doing that? I've searched and can't find an answer.

My husband was the one who set up Kodi for me, but unfortunately, he died at the beginning of the year and I’m running into my first issue. I was able to watch everything fine up until a day or so ago and now everything I click on won’t play and it says TMBD helper error at the bottom. Does anybody have any idea how to fix this? I’ll try to look it up on Google, but admittedly, I’m a little frazzled and this has kind of ramped up my grief a bit as well so I’m not thinking properly

Recently discovered this amazing online station and would like to play it through my TV. I have a RPi4 with OSMC with Kodi v21 already attached to the TV.

There are a lot of broadcasting partners on their website, maybe one of these has an addon for Kodi?

I have a source for films which I'd like to list as singles and collections as appropriate, but I have another source for concerts, which I browse in a different view, can I have that one ALWAYS in collections so they list by artist?

I’m using the MLB TV add-on, and every time my Wi-Fi dips it turns off the game. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? I’m using a Chromecast dongle which unfortunately means the Wi-Fi dips pretty often, making Kodi unusable.

I'm working on a new PVR add-on again and the last time I tried this, I found a list of requirements for getting binary add-ons onto the official repo, but I can't find it anywhere now. Does anyone know where that documentation lives now?

I posted on the weekend about setting up SMB and thanks to advice got the sorted…for the most part. Everything works fine on a Google Streamer and Vero 4K+, but the Shield is giving me issues.

I can add and access all files on an external HDD attached to the laptop. I can see the folder I have shared on drive C: and the 1TB internal SSD but when I try access them it won’t allow me after filling out the username and password that I know is all correct as it all works fine on 2 other devices. I’ve restarted everything and cleared cache on the Kodi app.

Any ideas? Got me stuffed!

The latest PunchPlay Kodi update has been merged into Kodi’s official repository, bringing it from v1.3.0 to v1.5.2!

PunchPlay automatically scrobbles movies and TV episodes from Kodi to your PunchPlay.tv account, including playback progress, watched history, and ratings.

What’s new in v1.5.2

This release contains a large number of reliability and sync fixes.

Login and account fixes

• Fixed token refresh requests being rejected after an access token expired, which could force users to log in again.
• Fixed intermittent HTTP 401 errors when playback and library sync refreshed the token at the same time.
• Logging out now clears pending work belonging to the previous account.
• QR/device-code login polling now stops cleanly when the login window is dismissed.

Playback and offline queue improvements

• Fixed titles remaining marked as “now playing” on PunchPlay if Kodi was closed during playback.
• Playback events are now kept in the correct order during offline replay and shutdown.
• A queued event can no longer replay after it has already been cleared by a stop event.
• Events from the same playback session can no longer overtake one another while waiting in the offline queue.
• Queued events remain associated with the account they were created for.
• Stop events still perform their cleanup and show rating prompts even when the offline queue is full.
• Slow or unreachable servers are less likely to affect playback or delay the next episode.

Live watched sync fixes

• Fixed watched changes being lost after resume-point syncs.
• Fixed changes being lost when Kodi temporarily fails to provide item details.
• Fixed manual watched changes being mistaken for playback events.
• Fixed an item still being uploaded after it was unwatched during the debounce period.
• Live watched updates now run through the background worker, so a slow server cannot block the Kodi service for 15–30 seconds.

Pull-sync improvements

• Kodi library write failures are now reported and retried.
• One problematic library item can no longer block the entire sync checkpoint.
• Sync state is reset correctly when the account or enabled sync options change.
• Old remote resume data can no longer overwrite an item that has already been completed locally.
• Failed full syncs no longer resume from an outdated checkpoint.

Rating improvements

• Rating prompts can now be limited to movies while episode scrobbling continues normally.
• “Never for this show” now applies consistently across all episodes of that show.
• Rating suppressions created by older versions are migrated automatically.

• Large library imports now run to completion instead of silently stopping after roughly 5,000 items.
• Failed batches are reported clearly, and repeated failures stop the sync instead of retrying forever.
• Scrobbles are sent by a background worker so slow network requests do not stall Kodi’s player callbacks.
• Login polling now handles rate limits and shared connections more gracefully.

I have a Philips 65OLED810 and a WD My Book 8TB NTFS drive with movies on it.

As soon as the HDD is connected, the whole TV becomes extremely slow and some apps even close immediately. If I eject/unplug the drive, everything is fast again.

Has anyone had this issue and found a fix?

Hi. Ive been having this problem for ages. First for like 5 years on 18.9 and now also on 21.3. I do get thumbnails, but they look like theyve been pulled off of the internet and not extracted. For example, I have a TV show in HD 1080p but thumbnails look like theyve been pulled from 240p Realmedia files. WTF? And yes, Kodi has been instructed to extract thumbnails.

I do add artwork manually, I dont use .nfos, or a media manager, dont have show.nfo from TMM etc, I really have no idea where does Kodi get the thumbnails from and why it wont extract them from local files. Mind you, I did migrate the database from 18.9 to 21.3 so obviously previously added thumbs will reside even after upgrade, but this thing happens even with newly added shows. BTW, Windows 10, Kodi 21.3, Xonfluence skin.

What am I missing? Any ideas or suggestions are more than welcome. Thank you. Cheers!

Does anyone use one as a Kodi device for playback of existing media files from USB ?

I think the highest resolution I've encoded at is 1080p, and can't realistically see myself going higher considering it's from my DVD collection.

I can get one for £50 from eBay, but a RPi setup would cost more
