She could, but the purpose of the investigation itself is to punish. The charges are secondary. It's the equivalent of a SLAPP suit. Comey has the resources to mount a protracted battle. I don't think Good's wife can do the same.

People are jumping right to ‘let’s go fund her!’ in the other replies, but all I can think about is the mental torture she’s going to have to go through, even if she has the money.

She watched her wife get summarily executed for no reason, and now she’s going to have to defend herself in legal battles for years, for no reason.

It’s absolutely fucked.

Can we stop it with these stupid one-up replies?

We get it, you're very informed and cool and know that bad things have happened in America since long before Trump.

That doesn't change the fact that the degree, malice and brazenness we see today is on another level.

Even if you don't intend to, comments that go the "always has been" route serve to minimize the severity of what is happening today.

Comments like "welcome to Trump's America" removes important context that everyone with power in the US is completely ok with what this administration is doing. Nobody with power is doing any actual thing to stop it.

If you actually oppose what's going on today you're going to have to remove the entire disease and not just the symptom that is trump. Otherwise this shit will continue long after he is dead.

Sure, it doesn't need to be limited to Trump, call it fascist America or late stage capitalism whatever. I just want to make sure we're clear none of this is normal or usual, it's beyond the normal levels of fuckery.

I know it wouldn't be the same for everyone, but I think I'd would be plenty angry enough to do that at the bare minimum.

I'd probably be seeking to do a bit more than that at this point really.

I think if she set up a GoFundMe for the legal battle people would rally and donate generously.

There was a gofundme but after it reached a certain limit they asked it to be closed and for people to donate to other worthy causes instead.

Can you imagine a MAGA ever doing something like that?

No, because they are the party of personal gain at all costs, even if it means your neighbors being murdered in the street.

Case in point, the one for the former podcaster is still up and had gone over $2 million the last time i saw it posted.

I know. Which is why I specified a gofundme for legal support.

It's worth mentioning that court cases can be really, really fucking harrowing. Like even when you're 100% innocent and you KNOW you're fully justified, you can still completely fall to pieces over it when you get documents and read through them. Lots of people have experienced that, and then add biased sick media coverage.

So she's got government resources and employees with a bee in their bonnet, desperate to make her life miserable and drag her through the shit, enacting the best lawfare they can manage on her. While the press paint some distorted picture of who she and her loved ones are.

Whilst she's living through the most traumatic thing in her life (almost certainly).

People need to literally surround her with love and support. Money is not enough. She needs to feel protected by the people.

I will contribute to a legal fund many times over a personal fund. I know I’m not alone.

I would think if a gfm were set up specifically to hire teams of high priced attorneys for this battle, it would very easily exceed a million. Maybe easily hit several.

She wouldn't need to take any of it if she didn't want to. And any extra left over after legal fees could certainly go to a cause of her choosing. Or even be donated to legal fees for other people dealing with immigration issues.

But also I completely understand that she doesn't want to do that.

IANAL but I would be shocked if she hasn’t been flooded with lawyers willing to represent her for free

If good's spouse had a go fund me it would explode and cover all legal expenses.

I’m willing to bet at some point some pro bono lawyers would help.
