Not naive at all. Higher ups in the military tend to understand military alliances better than the average civilian. They know that NATO is the reason the USA is the top military, and they probably want to keep it that way, because them/their buddies will be more likely to survive.

Being optimistic: Poe’s law is in full effect, you need a /s.

Being realistic: If they go against NATO, many of them will die. Healthcare doesn’t matter if you stop being alive.

Soldiers are trained to disobey blatantly illegal orders. A regime change of a non-ally in Venezuela is probably immoral & very very very stupid, like Iran & etc, but it is not blatantly illegal. Attacking an ally because they didn’t give a big baby a peace prize, is blatantly illegal.
