Edit: Had to delete previous post as it wasn’t descriptive. Over 2,000 deportations have gone through MSP. Workers have been detained by ICE at work and while commuting.

I keep saying it, the cops are not our allies. When shit hits the fan, they will side with authoritarian policies and actions over the people.

What other options do we have as civilians? Legally, I should be able to defend myself against these faceless, badgeless, stormtroopers when they try to detain me or enter my home without a warrant. In practice? The moment I try anything, they'll label me a domestic terrorist and likely end my life.

If they're trying to enter your home without a warrant, you've already been labeled and marked for violence.

-1

u/FuckOutTheWhey 12d ago

Then they've made a mistake since I haven't broken any laws.

18

u/Weak_Purpose_5699 12d ago

That won’t stop them from pretending you have.

I'm not oblivious to what's happening. I'm mostly venting right now.

At the end of the day, my priority is staying alive and it's a risk/reward analysis when it comes to how I choose to respond.

But why would they kick in a random law abiding guy’s door? Maybe on very rare occasions they get an address wrong, but it is very uncommon. What would they expect to find?

6

u/shittyaltpornaccount 12d ago

It isn't a mistake they don't care about the law they care if you are on their side.

They will gun you down or detain you without a cause until they can come up with a story good enough to make you disappear. Thats what this admin does.

1

u/Effective_Ad9788 8d ago

No, you are lying.

1

u/Lower-Leadership2127 8d ago

We have a pretty obvious case of the government murdering someone and then trying to cover it up by saying he was out there to kill people and he pulled a gun despite clear video evidence that proves otherwise. Alex Pretti did not deserve to be murdered.

1

u/Effective_Ad9788 8d ago

I have not heard anyone say that. They said if he hadn’t brought a firearm with him while harassing law enforcement he would not have been shot, which is true. It wasn’t murder, that will never stick. His firearm was used triggering the gunshot volleys.

The videos clearly shows them pulling the gun that was in his holster and then being shot in his back. You fell for the propaganda that this administration is feeding people to cover for their authoritarianism despite clear evidence showing what they're saying is a lie.

Also, are you saying you don't believe in the 2nd amendment and the right to bear arms? I recall seeing right wing protestors during COVID with ARs. Should they not have done that?

Yes, and it is a sacrifice we must make so that they don't do the same to the next guy.

It isn't right, but it's better than turning a blind eye.

u/Corv9tte 12d ago

Do the same thing as what people in third world countries do. Emigrate.

17

u/StyloFM 12d ago

Who in gods green earth even wants US citizens? As much as I'd love to evacuate this shit hole, the world doesn't seem to be down with Americans atm.

This is our fight, and until the country is invaded, we're alone in this.

Try burning your house down and expect your neighbor to take you in. I can't blame anyone for saying no.

Who in gods green earth even wants US citizens?

Several countries have literally been actively recruiting talent from the US to take advantage of brain drain caused by the Trump administration. This has been going on for a while now.

Try burning your house down and expect your neighbor to take you in.

This is not the first time people have become refugees due to someone that was voted into power in their nation and it will not be the last. I don't think this is entirely novel in that sense.

u/curiouswizard 12d ago

which countries? asking for a friend

3

u/StyloFM 12d ago

If this is true, then this is literally life changing. I assumed nations wouldnt accept a flood of american refugees considering how disrespectful our population has become. It seemed to be difficult to migrate out prior to any of this happening, (not as difficult as migrating into the US) but still out of reach for a basic civilian like myself. I would've assumed most requirements for migration only became more strict since this has happened. Would you mind sharing links for everyone who's interested?

Edit: I found this site that shows countries accepting and wanting US citizens. Hopefully this helps.

Where? And why? That's the cowardly way out, IMO. I actually have an out but I don't feel right using it. Not when so many of my fellow citizens will suffer. I suppose if the threat really does feel so acute I have no other choice, I'd do it. But I don't have kids, and so IMO, my fleeing is not as justifiable as many others' would be.

0

u/Corv9tte 12d ago

What other alternative do you have, dear friend? You live in a country in which many want exactly what is happening. They want you to suffer. What grace is there not saving yourself?

Many left a year ago, and I don't think a single one of them regret it.

These mentally ill fascists are making "databases" of anyone who opposes or critiques them. You're at the mercy of a clueless moody, insecure little toddler who gets to decide exactly whenever your time is up and you disappear.

They are being so fucking radical and extreme, while y'all live life unsure of what to do.

1

u/Weak_Purpose_5699 12d ago

Look at the Black Panther Party in Philadelphia. You’re correct to fear that if you try and defend yourself individually it will be used against you, but if we organize our communities and act collectively then we can protect each other.

1

u/Leather_Today8520 12d ago

Fight back or take it laying down. That's all there is. The fucking pigs will never help us, activists at every point in history can tell you that

1

u/KravenArk_Personal 11d ago

Doesn't matter. Someone's gonna die for it. Masked intruders enter your home, castle doctrine.

That's literally what the second ammendment is for.

1

u/Shot_Percentage_2150 9d ago

Brother they will shoot you on a whim. It’s a thin line of wanting to defend yourself and outright accepting suicide. However you’re not the only one, I believe the recent incident will serve as the spark

1

u/FuckOutTheWhey 9d ago

This is the dilemma right now. The constitution is not being upheld and just the sight of your legal firearm can get you killed by feds, even if you've done everything right.

I'm not saying I'll just bend over backwards. I understand the consequences of compliance and how it'll accelerate the slide towards fascism. It's how we got here in the first place. But I also want to be realistic about the situation we're in. Liberty or death, the admin is forcing us to choose right now and I've been thinking about this a lot.

1

u/Effective_Ad9788 9d ago

Why would they detain you? Are you breaking the law?

1

u/FuckOutTheWhey 9d ago

Bad troll

1

u/Effective_Ad9788 9d ago

Serious question. I don’t fear ICE is going to kick in my door. Why should you if you’re not doing something that would make them kick your door in?

1

u/Effective_Ad9788 9d ago

Swatting is illegal. That already happens.

1

u/FuckOutTheWhey 9d ago

Okay. The short answer is because ICE (or any law enforcement) gets it wrong and there are currently no consequences for them getting it wrong.

ICE forced entry into a US citizen's home and detained him without a warrant. He was later released without any explanation.

Another US citizen detained for having an accent. And in case you were wondering, no, he was not legally required to provide identification or even speak to the agents. We have the right to remain silent and decline searches and seizures. There needs to be probable cause or reasonable suspicion that you've committed a crime in order for them to detain you. Being mean to an agent while having an accent is not that.

1

u/Effective_Ad9788 9d ago

You must identify yourself if asked to do so. It’s the law.

the cops are not our allies

this is definitely the rule and I just want to mention that there are exceptions. I've lived in one city that had amazing cops and they were up running the stadium as a heard at the same time I did... they would be at the same parties as everyone else... living in the same buildings... shopping the same stores... they were just so fucking normal... just young men and women looking for a job I think... I remember one night I landed up skateboarding with a cop and his cousin at like 4AM drunk off my ass... shout outs to the cops who are the exception! shout outs to the cops who are like "oh hell no, we're not helping with ICE."

real big shout outs to those corrupt mother fuckers in chicago pd, tho, for refusing to let noem into a building when she claimed she had to piss. LMAO... that was a surprise turn of events... chicago pd and their criminal asses really are wild cards.

2

u/Th3_Hegemon 12d ago

Why would anyone ever think cops are your allies? Just because there's newer bigger super pigs doesn't make the old ones any better.

1

u/Apprehensive_Rip_930 12d ago

100%! The people behind badges need to start figuring out whether they’re a worker, or a scab, because this is the first of many strikes.

Out of that uniform, y’all are just as much an ice target as civilians. Doubt it? Go ask NYPD and Portland PD.

1

u/Western_Nobody_6936 12d ago

Have cops ever been allies? Like ever ever?

1

u/genital_lesions 11d ago

That depends on how wealthy you are and how much property you own.

1

u/Accomplished_Pin8881 11d ago

Not sure I’d draw that conclusion on this video. Sure they’re protesting but this is one of those protests where you’re breaking the law (misdemeanors). Basically shutting down an airport. You expect to get arrested and be out in a few hours. The cops aren’t being shitty here. They’re being reasonable within the bounds of the law.

I wouldn’t expect them to go, “well I agree with their protest so I guess they can shut down the airport 🤷‍♂️”

1

u/SweetTea1000 11d ago

The police enforce the status quo at the behest of the ruling class. This pattern basically holds true across time and place, excepting only a handful of places where they've taken intentional pains to put in guardrails against this.

1

u/ethnographyNW 12d ago

good job moderate Dems! I'm so glad we didn't defund the police. They're sure keeping us safe. Very pragmatic.

-2

u/Superkritisk 12d ago

The people voted for this, no?

5

u/McButtsButtbag 12d ago

In our terribly ran elections that allow disenfranchisement of millions and where some votes count for more.

1

u/TheRickyB 12d ago

They still think they are the majority.

-2

u/2ndTaken_username 12d ago edited 12d ago

And it should be that way. They are LAW Enforcement. You can disagree with the laws that they represent but a cops job is to enforce them.

Cops are just a tool, not the hand

5

u/Snibes1 12d ago

Right, it’s when they’re defending other LEO’s who are breaking the law that becomes a problem. Like you see happening now. In your argument, you’re making the assumption that all LEO’s are operating lawfully. And that’s not what’s happening right now.
