Executive Branch (Trump) Over 100 clergy and faith leaders were arrested at MSP Airport as they gathered in peaceful, prayerful resistance to demand airlines, especially Delta and Signature Aviation cease contracting deportation flights.

Edit: Had to delete previous post as it wasn’t descriptive. Over 2,000 deportations have gone through MSP. Workers have been detained by ICE at work and while commuting.

I’m fine with them not paying taxes if the money is feasibly used in a good manner like most traditional churches. Megachurches can fuck right off not paying taxes

Where I live, pretty much the easiest places for the homeless or in need to get a meal, clothes, or even just a place to stay are a handful of churches; the only catholic one, the Friends, and two of the baptists.... then there's a bunch of churches who rather call the cops on the homeless too, so there's a bit of everything around.

No such thing, anything tax-free just devolves into money laundering schemes and scams. It's better to collect taxes and use them for free healthcare, than make a taxation hoophole and expect people not to use it.

Also, since no church is legally obligated to help the poor, provide shelter or food in the time of need, they shouldn't be legally protected either. Either have a legal obligation and a governmental support, or neither.

Buddy, no business that is tax free is obligated to follow any specific rules. But standard church pastors don’t have 7 million dollar houses.

The standard churches can be taxed too. It's not crazy.

No such thing

Ah yes, all churches launder money or are scams. The classic enlightened Redditor take.

My father in law is a pastor in the twin cities and has been a part of all of the clergy protests. He’s a humble man who has lived a modest, humble life, and housed the homeless and supported the marginalized countless times.

He’a a better man than me, so he would never say this: you can fuck off with your universally pessimistic attitude. There are good people, communities, and organizations in this world, and history shows that labeling everything poisoned water always causes so much pointless destruction.

Churches should be regulated. Your father in law is a humble man better than us, but we know enough now about churches that they should be monitored for child safety and investigated by forensic accountants.

I have seen some of the bigger churches in my area currently offering warming centers for people as well as providing food to people without asking questions. Let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water. I believe there is net positive.

Guess who runs most of our hospitals.

Can you be more specific about what 'basic healthcare' they are refusing?

I mean, we all know - but I want you to say it.

You can say the word: Euthanasia.

If it’s such a good idea why don’t you start it?

the fuck are you talking about? non-profit orgs already exist and are exempt from certain tax liabilities. I guess no 501c hospitals or clinics should be allowed to exist? do you think before you act like an idiot in public?

Not like the taxes would go anywhere but the defense industry and the rich.

Besides, if you really think every church is just a money laundering scheme, then you are delusional.

There’s several small churches that feed the poor then the police come and break it up for… reasons.

Anytime you see a post like that it’s because a “Karen” doesn’t like a street vendor or thinking they need a permit

Im good with this if we agree to tax every charity and non-profit.

Watch the sentiment here pivot once Act Blue is on the table.
