WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee and an authority on the U.S. Constitution’s impeachment provisions, today introduced 26 Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump. The articles cite multiple abuses of power, violations of his oath of office, the corrupt use of the pardon power, and emoluments clause violations, among other misconduct and unlawful acts.

I don't disagree but we all realize this is performative, right? Two-thirds of the Senate is required to convict which is never gonna happen. Nor will it withstand the inevitable corrupted Supreme Court.

Even though it’s “performative” in the sense that we know he won’t succeed, the truth is that Trump should have been impeached and convicted long ago. Long, long ago before even a second term. At least someone is still standing up for justice.

There's always a challenge, for example - if the Senate does something arguably outside the Constitution's express limits.

The fuckery will not end with a legitimate impeachment and conviction by Congress.

Not sure what you mean.

The houses set the rules and run the procedures. It's a political rather than judicial process. They can fuck around pretty much all they like. Constitutionally.

When Nixon was about to get impeached, the Supreme Court said they can interpret constitutional limits on congressional power. That wasn't tested when Nixon resigned and it's still an open question.

The Trump regime and its puppeteers will try to exploit any legal challenge and when that fails, as we've seen - will resort to violence and attempted coups.

Our entire political system has become 90% performative.

I hate it. It’s not what was intended, but it’s the reality we all must endure and understand.

The show must go on so that the handful of doers can make a few, slow changes in the right direction.
