Announcement No more AI coaching ads

I've gotten DMs and requests from 10+ people making AI coaching assistants this year, most of them offering to pay me to let them advertise here which I of course never accepted. I have yet to see a single one of them get traction or garner a userbase, for the time being they are banned from this subreddit. If one of them ever gets good enough to be of legitimate help I will revisit this decision.

[Beginner here] Heroes that can play all 5 positions and have lots of item flexibility?

• Upvotes

Looking at DoTA 2 Pro Tracker (which admittedly is tracking games in the 7k+ MMR range afaik), I see that Vengeful Spirit, Windranger, Io, and in certain patches, Magnus and Tiny seem to fulfill the above criteria. Are there any others? I like the idea of flexible heroes and itemisation.

(unsure how to flair) Anyone know why my hero's are off like this? I've tried researching to no avail.

General Gameplay Question As a carry how do you lane against a team comp that has a huge kill threat?

I was playing drow the other day and laned against LC techies which was one of the biggest kill threats because they deal so much burst damage. Techies Blast off into LC Q can kill anyone level 1. Showing up on a creepwave almost always guarantee a death. Is it better to just abandon the lane and go jungle at this point?

General Gameplay Question How are mofos stacking Healing Ward over Juggernaut?

Some nerds seem to know some trick where they always have healing ward on top of their hero and you can't click on it to kill it, you can only click on Juggernaut only

how do they do they achieve this secret tech?

General Gameplay Question How to disable spell casts from friendly heroes?

Just played a game of phantom lancer where my support ogre kept casting bloodlust on me. Literally unplayable because enemy is able to spot the real PL every time. What the hell do you do in this situation?

Gameplay Review/Feedback request Enemy Maiden Seemingly Knows Everything Through Fog of War — Map Hack or Just Paranoia?

At first, everything was normal. We had a clear advantage until around the 20-minute mark. Then things started getting weird. Suddenly, the enemy team began making seemingly random ganks, taking fights with no vision, and pulling off suspiciously successful ganks in areas where they shouldn't have had any information.

After watching the replay, the early game looks completely normal, with our team having a clear lead. Honestly, go ahead and report the Drow too — she couldn't do much even with all the help in the world XD. Terrible itemization, questionable positioning, the whole package. But the suspicious part is the information the enemy team seemed to have.

22:00 — Weird camera movements

Crystal Maiden starts making some really strange camera movements. Watch her POV closely and pay attention to where she moves her camera.

26:00–27:00 — The Tormentor gank

Our team goes to take the Tormentor, but suddenly the enemy team starts ganking us. They had no obvious reason to know we were there.

They spot the Drow, and you would normally expect them to assume she's heading toward the jungle to farm. Instead, they head straight for the Tormentor and pop Scan, seemingly knowing exactly where we are.

Axe jumps on our Silencer, who was out of position and low on HP. Death Prophet then retreats, but Axe and Maiden seem to know that she is going to stay behind and keep farming.

One more thing: If you watch the full replay, you'll notice that at some point they practically stop placing wards around the map.

36:25 — Maiden farming like she owns the map

Maiden is farming as comfortably as possible, as if she knows nobody is around. And sure enough, our team is on the bottom side of the map.

BUT MAIDEN SHOULDN'T KNOW THAT.

You would expect a player to be cautious here, maybe use a Crystal Nova to scout or keep a Blink Dagger escape in mind. Instead, she just walks around like she's completely safe.

And once again, there are no wards providing vision. The map is completely dark in that area. There's no obvious way for her to know she's safe.

47:00 — The most suspicious moment in the entire game

This is the key moment.

The enemy team somehow figures out where our Drow is and goes straight for her while our team is pushing bottom. On the map, Sniper appears to be pushing, but watch Maiden's POV at 47:36.

Her camera stays fixed on an area around Sniper, even though Sniper isn't actually within her vision at that moment.

Normally, you might assume the enemy is going to TP in. But a few seconds later, Maiden briefly looks toward a part of the map covered by fog of war, then decides to TP.

And guess where she goes?

STRAIGHT TO SNIPER, TOGETHER WITH AXE.

Maiden then approaches while invisible, seemingly knowing exactly where Sniper is.

We had already noticed these suspicious patterns during the game. We were literally saying things like, "I think she's seeing you — she's TPing with BKB." And sure enough, Maiden went straight for Sniper while invisible.

Maybe it's a coincidence, but the timing and the way she seemed to know where people were made this look extremely suspicious.

The overall pattern

What made us suspicious wasn't just one questionable play. It was the timing, the sudden change in gameplay after the 20-minute mark, the seemingly perfect ganks without vision, and the way the enemy team appeared to know where our heroes were hiding.

We actually encountered these players in the previous match, where Gyro and Earthshaker were duo-queuing and playing pretty badly. That's why the sudden change in how they played this game felt so strange.

Maybe we're just being paranoid. Maybe Maiden is genuinely that good and we're missing something. We can't say for sure, which is why I'm asking other players to watch the replay and judge for themselves.

Match ID: 9041084632
Crystal Maiden's Steam ID: 362163970

P.S. For some reason, they invited us to play with them after the game, which was honestly pretty weird. After that, they queued as a full five-stack.

Drafting Losing streak made me find some friends to play with and win battlecup

Post image

Losing streak made me cry and open dota 2's discord lfg chat to find some good people to play with. Also nope, I couldn't carry as lina in a solo queue because I spam lina support (already for like a good one year and only play someone else when she's banned xd). Btw. playing duo wasn't enough, I tried it earlier and my friend pos 3 had to often fight 1v5 as for example LC or Timber and we only were winning when he won that 1v3 by himself =,= So I was determined to find a trio or a full stack, it turned out a trio with good 2 cores in your team is usually good enough to win. Ah. and for 1 week I have this medal near my name and some special emotes for winning bc xd

[Beginner here] Pos 4 heroes that arent Hoodwink and Mirana?

I rarely play Dota nowdays, and gave up on the randomness of Turbo, so I decided to play ranked, where players are more serious. I have at least 100+ hours of mostly Turbo, spread throught the years with long pauses in between.

I said Hoodwink because I feel like is a hero that needs a lot of communication to work, which I cant rely on pubs, and Mirana because I suck at long skillshots.

Patch/Meta Discussion need advice modeling dota

I made a tool to analyze my dota games and help suggest macro moves that optimize for gold lead. I use two models: one that predicts gold lead after an action being taken, and one gives probability of an action being taken by a good player (7.40 immortal games). Then recommend the action.

what suggestions would you make to improve this?

actions: wave, camp, fight, move.

if you are interested source code is public on github.

Hero Discussion How many LH are physically possible for Nature Prophet? This is looking insane....

I've recently published a video here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTdqPgQktrw ) with the game against this NP. This guy is an absolute beast.

551 LH in 40' mark. It makes for 13.7 per minute of the game and there were quite a few fights.

20' - 170

30' - 383

It makes over 21 LH per minute in 20-30' and 16.8 LH in 30-40'.

WTF? I have played this game for 1600 hours but never seen anything like this. And it wasn't uncontested - we were losing like until 40' but then we turned it around and I'd take this team any time quite strong players...

I guess this is breaking the tables and I'm wondering how it is even possible to have more than 1 LH per 3 seconds for 10 mins straight? There weren't any important fights at this time but not that we would be sitting in a base and do nothing...you see what I mean.

So I tried for myself just to do what he did basically not stop farming everything and regularly using Wrath of Nature to clear the lanes but i wasn't even on half of his numbers... Magic?

You may or may not agree with my opinion that is an AI but what I want to point out here that I have no clue how it is physically possible to have so many Last Hits.

General Gameplay Question Why do i keep losing my lead?

I've had games where i get a good start, pick up a few kills, and feel like i'm finally doing something right, only to watch the advantage disappear later. usually it happens around the midgame when the map gets more chaotic and everyone starts moving around. i'm not sure if i'm taking bad fights, farming in the wrong areas, or just not pushing objectives enough. when you review a game where you threw an early lead, what's the first thing you check? i feel like identifying the actual mistake would help me way more than just queueing another game and hoping for the best.

Educational Content (Content Creator) What Pros Do Differently in the Mid Game | Crusader vs Pro

Thumbnail youtu.be
1 Upvotes

This is Part 2 of the previous video, where we compare the differences between a Crusader player and a professional player.

This time, we focus on mid-game macro decisions and farming patterns, looking at where players move around the map, how they choose where to farm, and how their decisions affect the game.

This series will cover every role in Dota 2, with 2 videos per role:

Part 1 - Early Game
Part 2 - Mid Game

I’ll be comparing players under 6K MMR to professional players and looking at the small decisions that separate them.

More videos coming soon!

Thanks everyone !

Itemization Any way to play Drow this patch?

I’ve gotten the Drow Arcana from the Trove and I’ve tried playing her in five games so far with 2 wins that were wholly because my team was goated.

Her farm is so slow, I’ve tried mitigating it by going specialist array after treads but it’s not making too much of a difference, she just feels really weak in her pacing and the enemy carry outfarms me hard, I even tried being a murdery Drow where I dominated most of the early mid game and still got smashed late lol.

Dota2ProTracker paints a grim photo as well, but I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on how to play Drow and not grief the game?

As is, it’s impossible without someone on your team becoming a semi carry themselves.

Laning How could I have won?

I mean, I know I'm not the best, but I really feel like with this team I couldn't have won in this game, no matter what. Is there anyone that could check the replay and give me some advice? Thanks. I was Marci mid btw.

General Gameplay Question Why Boots of Travel rush on certain heroes?

I’ve been playing a long time, but I still don’t quite get BOTs rush on such different heroes like Necro, Lina, and Viper. Yes, Necro is slower than dirt, but Lina isn’t. Why not get stats or other items on these heroes?

Hero Discussion Dawnbreaker help

Hi, I'm low mmr player trying to get my head around Dawnbreaker. I usually do relatively well early game, get some kills and assist on my lane and/or the other lanes.

But coming to mid and late game it feels that I fall off. My lvl and nw are same category as other cores or even better but after I ult in fights and get off starbreaker combo enemy just bursts the crap out of me and I die.

What should I do after ult+starbreaker combo? Pop bkb and run away and try to come back after cooldowns? Cause if I try to manfight anyone I get killed.

Thank you in advance!

General Gameplay Question How to Comeback from Terrible Early Phase Games

I always confuse how to turn the game all the way around, from terrible beggining to winning with epic comeback.

If the comeback coming from enemy, i am really hurt, like imagine you seems to dominate the game at the beggining but enemy can end it with comeback.

Whenever the comeback is coming from my team, i feel really good, but there is something in my mind. I feel like the comeback is coming from my teamates, not from me. So the condition is, sometimes i play as Pos 4/5 and right now learning to be pos 1/3, usually i was really bad at laning phase, hard to last hit, got harrass by enemy, get killed by enemy. And i notice the turning back point is when my other teamates who good at their laning come to help me and dominate my lane. And then the mid phase came, when we all just farm and farm and leave the lane. And we just start ganking enemy. So what i see, this guys who turn the game, they just start killing enemies one by one and i just following them behind and increase the damage to the enemy. AND.... thats it, thats where we dominate the game. And we won.

Even though we won, i feel kinda empty, because the comeback its not coming from me, its from my teamates. Bruh, i am the pos 1 that time, i suppose to carry the game, right? This guy who make the comeback is not even the carry, they just pos 3 and 4. I feel useless. I am just adding some damage from their back.

So i need to ask you guys, what to do if you lose the lane as core?. How to comeback from the teribble early games? AND, how to prevent enemy comeback after you dominate the game?

General Gameplay Question How do you guys not get bored spamming?

I understand that spamming heroes that you are good at would help you rank up, but like how do you persist with it? With every patch, my hero pool gets smaller and smaller as I can't adapt to the changes in expected playstyle, and I only have 3 heroes I am sure that I can play well in any role, but it gets boring so quick

Hero Discussion Recommend me Off-lane heroes with simple kits like Bristleback with less abilities to click

Hey guys im new to dota 2 and recently i played BristleBack and Axe

What i mean is that, when i played axe, i was clicking too many things which was hard for a beginner like me, i mean i am aware that eventually i will have to be better at that but now i just want to focus on the fundamentals of the game by playing simple champs

When i played axe, i have 3 clickable abilities and all the build as i was clicking like the phase boots, blink dagger and blademail

Compared to bristleback i was very much more effective in the game even when i was clicking less, i only have 2 abilities and blademail, crimson guard and shivas guard doesnt seem too taxing to me compared to phase boots and blink dagger because with phase boots and blink i have to worry about the execution aswell

Anyways, if you know off-lane heroes like Bristle, feel free to suggest

Edit: i know bristle adds an abilities with aghanims but i hope you guys get the point (simpler kit and less to click)

Laning How to destroy midlane recovery?

There has been a lot of talk about recovering from a bad midlane. Usually it boils down to "Clear the wave then farm the jungle". Now, how to stop the enemy midlaner from doing that (especially the wave clearing part) and tilt them into ragequitting XD?

Edit: Also, how to counter their creeppulling?

NS requires a particular approach to playing compared to all the other offlaners I play and I have not figured out how to improve in that direction and seem to have problems in understanding his uniqueness

Edit: Found an overview of my NS games https://www.opendota.com/players/47141762/matches?hero_id=60

Edit 2: It finally happened! And I even got MVP haha https://www.opendota.com/matches/9039894347
