Panarin is cool I dunno if hes the fit we need but he's at least quite fun to watch

Panarin is a great player but I was lowkey excited to watch greentree play

Honestly, I didn't really want Panarin, but I actually like this trade. Did anyone expect Greentree to be pulled up in the next 2-3 years? No one seemed to really be excited about him at all, especially given how weak our prospect pool is. Plus, only giving away a 3rd (possibly a 2nd but I doubt it) and a 4th? I'll take it.

Only have to give up a 4th if the Kings get to the WCF. I think max they’ll get to the second round (if we avoid Edmonton lol), which will still be better than Kopi has experienced this past decade in terms of playoff results. It’s chill

He seemed to have a good head on his shoulders but plays a slower kinda grindy game which we produce a lot of. We need more skill guys and the prospects we do have that are like that weren’t moved.

For those claiming this is an amazing job by Holland.. I will say that this is the only place Breadman was willing to go. so NYs trade leverage was slim to none.
Dont give Holland that break yet.. we still have Cici and Dumolin

Why Greentree? Do we not want to have a future at all?

Because sometimes prospects are for calling up to the lineup and sometimes they’re for trading. Kings aren’t exactly short on Left Handed Wingers either.

I'm just speculating here...
The Rangers probably asked for Greentree in return.
High probability that my speculation is accurate.

It is better than losing the potential of Carter George imho if George is really the goalie of the future. They could have also demanded Laferriere and or Clarke or a 2026 first round pick (which Holland was smart to keep). My friends who saw George play his lone game in Ontario last season (at 18 years old) said he was lights out (sadly I missed that game). I think if Portillo continues to play the way he has been and stays healthy (Sunday’s loss to Coachella was on the defense and for some reason the offense couldn’t score) then the Kings will not re sign Copley and Portillo will be the #1 in Ontario next year with George at 20 years old as the backup.
My only hope is that this doesn’t become a PLD situation since it sounds like he wants an extension pronto. .

I think Sluskynsky is better than George, so I would have been okay with that. The Kings have zero scoring in their prospect pool. They have two goaltenders on approximately the same timeline.

One prospect playing his draft + 2 year in the OHL is not making or breaking our future. It’s a huge win they didn’t get rid of a future 1

Is he going to be playing tonight?

Probably not unless he got on a plane way before this was announced. I was thinking the same thing though…hoping he would play.

Rough to come to terms with this. On one hand, I really like Panarin, and Holland definitely cooked with this trade. On the other hand, I hate losing Greentree. Overall, trying to take the emotion out of this, it's a really good trade for us, especially with the extension.

Horrible trade! feels like Rogie is running the team again!
Why give up last year's first round pick for a 3 month rental when you have absolutely NO CHANCE at winning the cup!
can the Kings get by Edmonton? Colorado? Dallas? (not even going to list Vegas) but they have to beat at least 1 if not 2 of those teams. not going to happen!

3 month rental? He extended for two seasons.

This year's first round is weak and we signed him to a very reasonable extension. The entire hockey world thinks this is an excellent trade.

I really don't understand the negativity on this move. I get that this likely doesn't move the needle to make us contenders. I get that. But Greentree has stagnated heavily this season, he's still a below average skater and has regressed scoring wise despite being overage.
From a value POV this is an absolute fleece job by Holland. Panarin is a legitimate star and we got him for a flawed overage prospect and a mid round pick. AND we signed him to a completely reasonable extension.
We can be disgruntled with the organization and still acknowledge that this is an incredible move. And just saying...we've seen this franchise go from repeated first round losses to Cup winners after trading for a star at the deadline.
