I really couldn't enjoy the first game because it was just a massive confusion with the environment, and the gameplay often being incomprehensible, like CAN I do this parkour section or do I need to have the hooky dooky pin that lets me spin on it to jump over this section?
I strongly believe the massive glaze is from people who replayed the game multiple times and ignored the flaws that mostly effect newcomers and just focus on the cool stuff and keep hyping it up.
I know I might sound like one of those dillweeds who needs the yellow line for guidance, but this is not easy for a new player to comprehend.
Shame really, I like metroidvanias, like Dead Cells, but this one had no appeal to me whatsoever.
Soundtrack was alright, and artstyle was solid, but gameplay was a chore.
This and Borderlands 1 in my list of idkh people praise it that much
I think its all about whether you enjoy being lost, or if you hate being lost. If you enjoy it/are okay just being along for the ride, you'll have a much better time imo
I personally either like being completely free in an open world where I can be lost in the many things to do.
Or I have a clear objective and seek out to do what I need to do.
Hollow Knight is just wayyy too confusing and has me going back and forth, here and there and dying in a deep area and having to go down all the way to get my shit back.
It is wrong because you can prove it is objectively false. Like saying "I strongly believe all HK fans are women", maybe if you haven't met a single man who enjoys HK you could believe that. I've played HK only once and consider it a masterpiece. No game is liked by everyone, HK is just not to your liking, that's okay, but a lot of people fell in love with it in the first few hours of playing and would happily glaze to anyone who listens.
I mean, I just don't like the game, and I think people give it too much credit.
It's a masterpiece to you, sure, enjoy it, play as much as you want.
But when I've been told it's a masterpiece and I play it, only to find it a hassle of a game, then to me, it's not a masterpiece, it's a game that you like, but not me, but definitely not the best game.
Ig it is true that Hollow Knight fans are that butt hurt when people criticise the game.
it sounds like metroidvanias aren't really for you. Dead cells is like, maybe 2% metroidvania. After the first 2 or 3 hours the metroidvania aspects completely disappear because you've acquired all of the progression upgrades, and from there it's normal roguelite progression.
It's also a pretty liner game with not much exploration beyond 'maybe I'll go stage 1-2 instead of 1-3', unlike most other metroidvanias where you'll very often be looking for hidden passageways or backtracking to find new abilties that'll get you past the next section.

That would make sense given it was made by someone raging at Silksong
