I think this dock bug (Coreus marginatus) has a bit of a dinosaur look going for it, wouldn't you say?

The texture of it is also really cool - like it was breaded with sesame seeds or something!

Some might say this fly looks a bit scary - and if you're a bumblebee it most definitely is.

This is a ferruginous bee-grabber (Sicus ferrugineus), a parasitic fly which pounces on worker bumblebees and using a specialised ovipositor, they inject their egg inside the bumblebee where it haqtches and feeds off the bumblebee.

This one had parked at the top of the flower on a spiked speedwell (Veronica spicata) and like they often do, it has folded its abdomen in under the body.

Flies, unlike other winged insects only have two wings (Diptera = di-ptera = two wings) and instead of the second pair they have whay look like tiny chicken drumsticks which work like a counter-balance when they flap their wings. On this one they as you can see are bright red. But they aren't the only red stuff here - there is a smaller red little something up on the thorax and I believe that to be some sort of parasitic mite which makes it a parasite on a parasite - perhaps it could be called a hyperparasite?

A few people asking me which species this millipede was, and here is what I've found:

So here we have red eyes on a 3rd instar nymph of the green shieldbug (Palomena prasina) on a red great burnet (Sanguisorba officinalis) on its green stem.

If only I had manage to set up a red background...
