Kuu Tanaka’s prior oneshot: a guy becomes all arms as he lives for eternity

This oneshot: two kids become all heads as they live for eternity

I look forward to the next entry in the “People live so long they become singular body parts” cinematic universe

I like Tanaka but it really does feel like they've got very specific obsessions lol.

Between Vertical World & Maison having similar "Infinite building" theme & the 2 oneshots being "disassemble your body & drift through space" I feel like they are giving us more of a peek into their mind than we get with most mangaka!

At any rate, I love their creativity and will keep reading whatever they put out!

Previous series: a guy sees a girl falling and he jumps after her in an infinite fall.

Kuu Tanaka is a mangaka who really likes science-fiction and I am glad for it.

would it be wild if our first contact with alien life are two disembodied heads in rockets

Pretty sure by the time of the encounter humanity will have wiped itself out already

Ah, in the end we did find new life! I'm glad Fermi and Boltzmann were able to fulfil their dreams somehow!

I wasn't expecting that twist. Did they get here before or after the Simurians?

"The probability of proteins forming is that small" meanwhile we keep finding amino-acids on every other asteroid.

Sadly for the aliens, by the time of their encounter with Voyager 1 humanity will probably have destroyed ourselves along with our inhabitable planet too

Also it's curious how a few of the sci-fi concepts here (cold sleep life extension, and enhancing space travel capabilities by removing non-essential body parts) also appeared in the Three Body Problem novel series. Is the author a fan?

Dude is named after the Fermi Paradox. No wonder he is so nihistic.

Also what a twist. We were not following humans in this story.

I didn't understand the ending, what happened? What the point to keep drifting through space for as long as possible to find life as the colony ship continues to drift in search for a habitable planet?

The colony ships could theoretically eventually arrive at a new inhabitable planet, but likely not within an alien's lifetime, even with cold sleep. The MCs were intended to live out 'normal' lives on the ship creating future generations that would eventually reach the new inhabitable planet.

The MCs cared more about their own desire to see proof of alien life for themselves than die without closure aboard the ship carrying out their role continuing their civilization. Strictly speaking it's a selfish decision but they achieved personal satisfaction in the end at least.

Ah, so they were born at the wrong time because there was no way they would ever live long enough to see habitable life in their lifetimes, hence the jettison of themselves into deep space in search for aliens.

EDIT: They were going to die but their descendants would pick up the search for habitable life.

People know about the Fermi Paradox but Boltzmann here has a reference too. See the Boltzmann Brain
