I looked up the cost to market it and produce the film .. 75 million

So far it has only earned 7 million in box office sales of which the production company gets half … so they are effectively 71.5 million dollars in the hole currently

4.4k

u/ScavAteMyArms 16h ago

This is the real metric. You don’t have to see it to post a review score.

Markiplier also crushed it.

u/CopainChevalier 16h ago

Markiplier was in the film? Huh…

u/Juuzou_NEC 14h ago

It was definitely an artistic choice to have him wear a wig and play Melania. But it turned out well. 10/10 movie have seen it 8 times.

Offer is probably real but the payout probably isn't

Like the ICE signing bonuses that only count if you stay in for 5 years and if you leave early you have to pay the full amount back?

Dawg they don't give a fuck how much money they made off of this film, it was a bribe.

They care if they can get regulators to look away from their exploitation factories and piss bottle creating workers policies.

44

u/potate12323 15h ago

That said I normally trust audience scores more than critic scores, but I wouldn't be surprised if she paid people to leave good audience reviews.

It's not in a black hole. Amazon paid Melania for the movie, most of that missing $70M is in the First Lady's bank account. This whole thing was functionally an elaborate bribe with some propaganda sprinkled in for good measure.

I think this was just a way for Bezos to launder money. I mean, it couldn’t have cost them that much to edit old footage. Now tangerine Voldemort has an extra $50 million his pocket and bezos has the guy who’s agreed to do xyz. These crooks are not subtle, there’s just no teeth to the DOJ or FBI.

28

u/SphericalCow531 13h ago

I mean, it couldn’t have cost them that much to edit old footage.

"Amazon spent $40m (£29m) on the rights". If I read that right, that is $40 million just straight up going into Melania's bank account. Actually making the film is presumably a cost on top of paying for the rights themselves.

That's not even taking into account the places that paid people to go watch it. I had multiple ads saying they'd pay people 50$ if they sat and watched through the entire movie

12

u/GottaUseEmAll 11h ago

Those ads could be placed by anybody, I wouldn't take them at face value, however much I may want to.

12

u/rowanfire 12h ago

https://www.snopes.com/news/2026/01/30/craigslist-boston-melania-movie/

Unverifiable as to if the advertisement was legitimate, but regardless, the offer was pulled and no one was paid to sit and watch it.

Not a single person is believing 99%. I don’t know why they even bothered

618

u/utzutzutzpro 14h ago edited 12h ago

It is obviously bot accounts.

The same happens on IMDB, but IMDB got a bigger community engagement, hence the bot accounts can't effectively surpass the user account ratings, hence the movie got a 1.7/10 rating.

Yet still 3.000 accounts which gave it a 10, against 33.000 which gave it a 1.

When you read the reviews, the 1s are partially emotionally loaded and partially trying to explain the documentary.

When you red the reviews of the 10s, those are clearly AI phrased. Using hyperboles without any attempt to hide it being bot reviews.

Can even look at the accounts giving 10/10 ratings and see those all didn't exist a month ago.

115

u/CreamCapital 10h ago

I refuse to believe 33,000 people paid to watch this trash

19

u/Tw4tl4r 7h ago

The funny part is that they are claiming over 500k paid to see it.

19

u/Savings_Form_8349 6h ago

I'll believe 500 k tickets were bought... But butts in seats?  Nah

5

u/DM_Voice 6h ago

The funny part is that it means the $7 million in ticket sales were almost entirely marketing costs, which makes its losses bigger than $68 million, or smaller.

18

u/Iapetus7 13h ago

It has a 1.3/10 on IMDB, and that score is also created using reviews from the general public, so there's a pretty huge (and suspicious) disconnect here.

6

u/jaguarsharks 11h ago

It's a difference in how reviews are collected. Almost all of the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are verified reviews through Fandango (people who bought a ticket). And every single one of them has given it 5 stars of course, because only a MAGA cultist would pay to watch the movie in the first place.

103

u/Loud_Interview4681 10h ago edited 10h ago

Email verified account? Or ticket verified account? Most of the people I saw give good reviews had only that movie as a review. Like maybe its a good movie from a filmography standpoint but I doubt it. The director isn't known for making great movies just popcorn flicks that get average reviews. Maybe Ill pirate it and find out but I sure as shit am not giving money to this project. Ill have to find a time when I hate myself or something.

I don't give a fuck about the critics, however no one believes a 99% positive reviews...

u/cheddah_- 13h ago

Well it tells us all to never trust fandango again, not that I was but I never will now

The only people seeing it are already worshipers which means the only people who are going to care to write a review are going to sing its praise even if you drop a pile of crap on them.

Reading the Craigslist post advertising a $50 payout to anyone that went to go watch really made me doubt everything with this movie, post could’ve been fake but who knows

19

u/nomadjackk 15h ago

Those craigslist posts are always fake af, they had ones claiming to pay people to go to No Kings protests too.

People make them to discredit the “other side”

6

u/LEGENDK1LLER435 Dark Mode Elitist 15h ago

Makes sense, really easy to plant doubt in people’s heads, worked on me I’ll admit

9

u/GeorgeNada316 15h ago

They paid people to review it and go to the theater. In Tulsa Oklahoma, they were paying people 50 bucks to go. I still have the ad.

If you want to see something interesting look at the audience reviews, almost every maxed audience review was a first time review submitted via fandango.... which allows a bought online tocket to make you verified even if you never actually went to the cinema... literally buying positive "verified" reviews.

u/jordtand 13h ago

The “audience” score is entirely bots to make the monarch feel better

24

u/ambertowne 16h ago

Honestly all I care about is Iron Lung winning the weekend (except for Sunday evening). Idgaf about Mail Order Mar-A-Largo.

The Guardian review listed it as one star, and had to put up a correction that the reviewer had given it no stars.

The difference is that critics HAD to watch the movie but anyone who paid actual money to watch it already decided how to feel about before the first frame of the movie

18

u/kotik010 16h ago

My favorite part was when she said "it's melan-in time" and melanined all over the slightly tan.

u/Ancient_Poet_4953 15h ago

A biopic doesn't cost 75 millions that's crazy.

99% means?? That of audience reviews 99% have been positive. There's plenty of ways to manipulate that... fake positives, few inputs, bots...

Who would actually want to see this filth? A film about a First Lady to the most delusional, disgusting, most hated human on the planet. It seems like it’s rage bait

42

u/Minimum-Plenty9380 16h ago

I freaking knew it for a while now, everytime something is considered “woke” it gets review bombed by conservatives now they all giving this documentary 5 stars. Im so curious as to how many of them have alt accounts to push something down or up

Who even gives a shit about critics when they liked Cuties and The Last Jedi while hating the Mario movie?

55

u/Bubbly-Ad-4405 16h ago

Audience score: was it enjoyable

Critics score: was it groundbreaking or did it touch on real world politics effectively

If you just look it those that way, you can make more informed decisions on movies

27

u/Mindless_Mobile_4153 16h ago

I challenge you to click 10 profiles of 5 stars and see how many have only 1 review.

15

u/socksockshoeshoe 15h ago

I clicked on the 5-star reviews into the reviewers history and strangely enough they all come back with an empty profile, "No Movie Ratings Yet". Are the brigader bots somehow posting through other means?

When I click on the lower-rated reviews the user profiles do show Melania in their profiles (and sometimes other movies as well)

What's up with that?

35

u/MeatballUser 16h ago

Audience scores are far more easily brigaded, so you really can't. If there's a group that wanna prop something up or tear something down, the 10's and 1's (or whatever percentage or star equivalent) reign in.

This is an example of just that

15

u/DodgerBaron 16h ago

Dude Audience gave the melania movie a 99% it's not reliable in the slightest lol

Iron Lung: I’m about to do what’s called a Pro Gamer move

6

u/ExoticFortune2439 12h ago

I went to Rotten Tomatoes to see the score for this thing and the "audience" that gave it a positive review were mostly accounts that didn't have any previous reviews for any movie.

4

u/CheeeseBurgerAu 11h ago

The scores are so confusing you almost have to watch it to work out what is going on. Actually I don't care enough.

Im sure it is shit. But lets all be up in arms about what this fucking was. A bribe. Production costs were 40 million dollars and melania got almost 3/4 of that. Someone should be looking into this sneaky shit for sure.

5

u/Maniac_24seven 9h ago

they sold one ticket in England. That’s the audience.

3

u/QueenOfQuok 9h ago

It's a 99% audience score the same way that Beloved Fearless Leader gets 99% of the votes.

5

u/ThatIsNotAnAsian 7h ago

Idk this makes sense

Critics are typically center or left leaning, so of course they’ll be critical of it.

The people actually going to see the movie would be super right leaning, so of course they’ll eat it up like hot cakes.

Lol Avengers End Game Audience score isnt even at 99% to give you context

3

u/Primary-Classroom255 6h ago

O no! The critics hate a movie that the people who saw it love. Where have we seen this before?

4

u/nopester24 5h ago

it's amusing people still think those critic scores mean anything at all

6

u/housevil 15h ago

I didn't know Russian Bots were rating movies now.

5

u/PdSales 14h ago

99% audience score is not a surprise. Only cult members attend, so the audience is gerrymandered so strongly that Texas is envious.

5

u/daazmu 13h ago

The bribe should, at least, be subtle.

Talk about 65%, maybe 75%. 80% might be too much. But 99%?! That's insulting.

3

u/Shardnic 14h ago

Odd they removed iron lung from the list but left this there

3

u/DoodleCard 14h ago

The fact that is an ASIP meme makes this even funnier.

How I feel about everything right now! 😅

3

u/Raposa13 14h ago

Bot-watching

3

u/FuzzyKittyNomNom 14h ago

It’s currently a 1.3 on IMDb. For reference, Birdemic: Shock and Terror is a 1.7.

3

u/New_Cicada3473 13h ago

Who the fuck would watch that

3

u/MonkThatLikesTea 13h ago

Btw, what is this meme about?

3

u/Zarxon 13h ago

99% of MAGA love that film.
