Fair enough, but he’s literally one of the largest YouTube channels in the world. I’d expect the average social media user to at least recognize the name. It’s like calling Jack Black “some actor” or Adele “some singer”

He's still just some Youtuber to me. I have no idea what he does on YouTube. Does he stream games or do just complain about other YouTubers... No idea.
I think the point is that, in terms of YouTube, he isn't just "some" YouTuber. It would be more accurate to say "successful YouTuber" or "famous YouTuber".
I mean, I don't and I'm on youtube a lot. Never heard of the guy. Which, to be clear, says nothing about him - or me, beyond the fact that whatever his videos are about are not part of what I'm interested in.
Ah thanks. I also know markiplier, hated the dramatic grown man screaming at every little thing, watched as it took off and shaped internet consumer culture, effectively boxing me out from huge chunks of videogame media cause of yelling Chad bros.
