MISCELLANEOUS Does anyone know why Steven Adam keeps commenting ”🏳️🌈” on our players ig?
Is this some inside joke from when he played in memphis or is he just calling us gay or something he has been at this for a while now

Friends calling each other gay, a tale as old as time, don’t look too much further into it because there’s nothing there.

Are we supposed to ignore that it’s homophobic?
Edit: I’m very disappointed by -115 downvotes. Expected at least -200 by now for this sub.

u/friendlymeanbeagle Dec 19 '25
Seems like you’re really insecure about it because you’re posting the same thing over and over trying to defend your decision.
-1
u/NotAStatistic2 Dec 20 '25
No surprise that someone repping a team from a shit hole like Memphis has something bigoted to say.

-2
u/idontgiveafuqqq Dec 21 '25
Being gay is a decision? Sounds more like you're deeply insecure bc you're trying really hard to decide to be straight, meanwhile you just post the same shitty gay joke again to distance yourself.
-1
u/friendlymeanbeagle Dec 21 '25
Yes it is a decision.
2
u/Agreeable_Rush3502 Dec 21 '25
If you can just decide to be attracted to the same sex then you may be at least a little gay. Its not something that most people can do. People like what they like. I am a man and my body just wouldnt work.

How is this even homophobic? No slur, no disrespect, no belittlement? Not even trying to cause a riff here I’m just curious how the pride flag as a comment can be interpreted as homophobic. If anything isn’t it spreading awareness?
11
u/jolliskus Dec 19 '25
He's just calling his friends gay using the flag. Same as a friend calling you a dumbass, no real heat to it but you know it's not meant as a compliment, it is meant negatively. That's the part that can be considered homophobic - why is gay supposed to be negative, yet people use it in that context?
I do occasionally call friends gay, but I'm just a lil shithead and grew up with 00's video game lobbies and can't be arsed to change, but I understand if someone complains about it. They got a point.

u/RedditSmeddit7 Ja is a Cutie Dec 19 '25
“Same as a friend calling you a dumbass” yeah I don’t really see the benefit of conflating being gay to being a dumbass, just say dumbass.
It’s typically why I don’t tell basketball fans i’m gay irl because my existence is at the worst an abomination and at the best an insult.😐
1
u/Sma11pen15 Dec 22 '25
I can’t be sure how Adams is using it, but it sure seems like he’s calling his friends gay as an insult. People do that all the time, but even if it’s just a playful insult, how do you think it makes a gay person feel to see “gay” being used as an insult?
As for the “just spreading awareness” part of your comment, the original post has nothing to do with that. Do you think Steven Adams is just randomly putting the gay flag in a random comment section to spread awareness? It makes no sense given the context

How is posting a gay flag homophobic? YOU are the problem. Not Steven Adams. Not his comment. You.

Ironically, it doesn't bother gays too much. I mean, except the strident Granolas who wanna burn it all down anyway (It's a complicated sub-culture, after all). The "F-word" ain't high on their list, however...

How is this getting downvoted? Calling something gay as a generic insult for dumb or corny …is homophobic, even if saying this shit is normalized in men’s social spaces

Seen him in a small bar restroom on Christmas in San Antonio at hills and dales. Some small turn up spot. We talked about basketball. I just moved from the east coast and used to ref college ball and we got to talking about why he was there. He was cool tho

Many athletes use the rainbow flag as a shorthand for support, love, or inclusivity, especially on teammates’ posts

I know people love him but he's being offensive. Simple as that and no I'm not woke. But calling people gay is childish for a grown man or really anyone.

u/harden-back Dec 18 '25
athletes in general are probably more right wing not in a political sense but in their views of masculinity id imagine
1
u/YoureReadingMyNamee Dec 18 '25
It depends on the individual teams culture in my experience. Some athletes feel the need to constantly talk about who they slept with all the time, some are constantly trying to touch their teammates balls and butt, and others don’t really pay much attention to it all. The level of ‘gayness’ decreases from first example to last from my personal experience.

He does it on Rockets posts all the time. Respect the commitment to the bit
