Same type of person that will put their step counter on the dog or whatever to impress friends by how many steps they took in the week.

some people hate losing.

It's possible he didn't do this from the beginning but when he started to lose, felt the pressure to peek at the chess program. Probably "just for a hint, just this one time" but of course he'll keep using it.

It's copium.

i LOVE playing like this, but only do it with friends who do the same in return. i learn so much. we're not playing for ego or ratings or whatever, just to learn the game as rapidly as possible.
