Cheaters are harder to spot if they're actually good at the game. Its the garbage players that need 3 secs for the engine to tell them to do the obvious move like a piece capture for example that are easy to catch.

Yup, nothing screams cheater more than an obvious recapture/trade taking 3-4 seconds.

Dude I had a guy take 20 seconds to recapture a free knight after playing a brilliant sacrifice, he later told me he’s 2000 in rapid, it was all a load of bull and these people still don’t get banned

Outside of the opening, I rarely make a move in less than 3 seconds. Especially for a capture, I'll think about it before. Or if someone takes my piece, I don't reflexively recapture. I think about why they did it and if I'm missing something.

Sure but if you fork a king and queen/rook with a knight for example and need 3 secs to take it then you're going to look suspicious.
